It's fully assembled and the paint on the bumper and fenders is near perfect so I don't want to scratch them when removing to install the hideaway components.

What is the best way to lift and remove it off the car? Should I just unbolt the brackets from the bumpers and remove it all at once or remove the grilles, and other parts first? How do I lift it? It looks like an odd and unbalanced heavy thing to move. I have a lift table, floor jack and cherry picker if need be.

I know many folks have done this before so I appreciate hearing what your experience was doing this.

BTW, I'm just outside of Green Bay if any of you in the area feel like you want to participate in the bumper ectomy. My friend sent me these pics he took recently. The plate style apparently indicates same owner since at least 1978. Apparently, he is 90'sh years old and still driving it.

I have a few questions for those who have done this or otherwise know:

Will I need a different length shift cable?

Will a 68 top plate like in the link work/snap into a 69 console? Or will I need a different plate on the the console side? https://www.amesperf.com/parts/20946/

Will I have to use a 68 neutral safety switch on the shifter or can I keep the 69 style - assume it’s on column.

I will be purchasing a dust cover and console top plate as the one on the shifter is rusty.

I'm assuming it uses the self-threading speed nuts on the posts, but the nuts I have here that fit the posts won't clear the bend in the sheet metal to tighten all the way down on the posts. The chrome trim is NOS GM, the valance is re-pop, the posts fit perfectly in the valance ... but is there some difference between OEM and re-pop on that flange where the trim mounts?

If the speed nuts I'm using did not have the typical flange they would probably fit.

So, I just recently finished my 16 month long complete rebuild/restoration of the 69 GTO that I picked up back in Jan of 2025. So, I just recently finished my 16 month long complete rebuild/restoration of the 69 GTO that I picked up back in Jan of 2025. Now, just a couple little things to get straightened out after her shakedown.
No kickdown happening on the TH400. FYI, new sound deadening mat and new carpeting along with new carpeted floor mats. First thing I noticed was the carpeted mat preventing pedal from going to the floor, so I cut it to clear the pedal. I replaced the switch and I have power going into it and power coming out when depressed. No power at trans. I dis-connected the wire/boot off the trans and ran a hot jumper to the terminal and it clicks fine, so I know there's a break in the wire somewhere between the switch & the trans. When looking under the dash, the plug going into the switch has a green & a pink wire. These wires go a loom with another pink wire, a black wire, a couple orange wires in it. One of the orange wires has been cut and is not connected to anything. Anybody have an idea where this should go? I have the large laminated wiring layout that I bought for the car, but it is no help.

Please correct me if I’m wrong, but won’t the hei run wire not have a full 12 volts if it plugs into the wire marked “resistance”?

Early 68 GTO's/LeMans/Tempest used a horn relay made by LITTELFUSE, P/N 9792911. Around mid-Feb of 68 the assembly lines had switched over to the Delco-Remy horn relay P/N 1115875. The early 68 LITTELFUSE relay was only used on Pontiac A-bodies, and not on any other GM products to the best of my knowledge. A Pontiac Service Bulletin says that the old style relays were phased out from the parts books by June 1, 1968 and that the Delco-Remy style should be used to replace the LITTELFUSE type. So if you have ever wondered why your Delco-Remy horn relay does not match up to the holes drilled on the firewall, this is why.

I am looking to see if anyone has any early style LITTELFUSE type horn relays that they would like to sell in any condition?

Yes, I also know that LITTELFUSE made the A/C high-speed blower relay, which is NOT what I am looking for.
