Yes that was where I got that number. Yhe casting # is 9790079 however the 00 could be 8's or 6's as was not clear. The heads have a DN36 or DN86 in the casting. With a K147 on the passenger side and K137 on drivers side. I assume this denotes left or right head. I have not found the numbers by the distributor as yet. I'll keep looking as I go. Motor is still mounted in the car.

Your welcome, where did you find the "28P" stamp on the block you have? If it was the first 3 digits with 6 more numbers following it sounds like your reading the VIN stamp in small font along the front of block parallel to side of timing cover above balancer to the side. The main code of course is normally 2 letters above a series of numbers on the pass front top of block just below pass side head gasket deck surface. A 28P on a VIN prefix would be a 68 Pontiac built in Pontiac Michigan assembly plant but could be a 350, 400 or a 455 , need actual block code and block casting at back and date by distrbuter to truly ID it , and blocks 69 and up say the CID on the side also BTW

Thanks for the info. I have replaced the floor already and have almost completed the rear seat brace. the welding has been kicking my butt but getting the hang of it. Very rewarding when I get things done though.

Hey man, sounds like a good project. That 28P code sounds more like an old 389 code but need more info. You need the block casting number than runs along the back along the bellhousing behind the head and a date code from under the distributer. Also if it only has the two bolts on each side for the motor mounts and no extra threaded holes on the sides its Pre-70 block. Also what casting is the heads at the center exhaust ports?
