Changing to an HEI distributor was one of the first things done, along with a timing set (had the original nylon coated gear on it) and a water pump. I ordered a GTO hood from the Parts Place last Friday and it's on it's way to me today, now I just need to make an appointment at the body shop to get it painted. Then I'm going to try and take a break from spending money on it for a while. : )

I'm looking for the 4bbl single one. I think the next thing you need is a cam to wake the motor up and some distributor work. No telling how stretched the timing chain is that can hold improvements back.

Thanks... I got the dual snorkel air cleaner from The Parts Place, but it wasn't cheap. Are you looking for a 2V or 4V single snorkel air cleaner?

Welcome back! Wow, sounds like you had a great vacation - I need to try to get down there for one of the big shows someday. The intake, carb and valve cover swap was done last Friday morning - I'm very happy with the way it looks and it runs nicely, but I had higher expectations from a performance improvement standpoint. Had to tinker with the throttle linkage and kick-down cable a little today (but it's set up properly now) and hook up the vacuum tubes to the air cleaner. I posted a couple pics in the '70/'72 section and in my photo album. I spent a few extra bucks buying a rebuilt Q-jet from Jeff Walker and I think it was worth it because it fired right up on the first try and needed very little tweaking to dial it in. Thanks for the offer to help though, see ya.

Hey Darren, how's the wagon coming along? Looked for you at Gilmore today, but I didn't see your car anywhere. Did you go? Still haven't gotten around to putting the intake and Q-jet on my car, just got it back from the body shop last monday. Had the GTO spoiler put on - looks great IMO - and a GTO hood will be next, sometime this fall. See ya.

As far as the fuel pump it's just a cheap stock replacement, but when I ran the car at Martin it felt like it was running out of fuel at the top of second and into third. I up graded the pump in the GTO with the Summit pump last year as a precaution. The pump is $60 and a Summit cam set is about $150. The wagon will be using the #2800 cam. Count on a timing set and gaskets too, things add up fast. What rear gears do you have? 2.56's I bet, that's what the 'convert has. Give a holler!

Thanks Darren, I may give you a call when I get the carb (2-3 weeks), you should have been the first person I thought about when I decided to start this project. Did you have to replace the fuel pump? What cam did you go with? My budget is already blown, so maybe I'll go ahead and do that too. Talk to you later and enjoy your vacation. See ya.

I drove for the car for the first time last weekend and you're right it does improve the mood. I tried to get it out a couple weeks earlier , but the oil light came on after starting the car and it had me really worried. Turns out it was just the sending unit, big relief - cheap and easy fix. It was a loooong winter and I'm ready for summer, too. See ya at the Bell, give me a call when you go. See ya.

Hey Darren, good to hear from you. Surviving the winter so far - I'd hibernate from January to March if I could. I hate the snow and cold weather - blue skies, sunshine and spring weather can't get here soon enough for me. See ya.
