Straight up. The 2801 is designed towards low RPM driveability, and it would only rob the engine of power if advanced.

Unless you are going to pony up for a quality converter such as a continental, all you are going to do is heat up the trans fluid and shorten the life of your trans when running a 2.78 gear.

From a performance standpoint, a properly selected quality torque converter can be THE biggest performance improvement you can make - on a naturally aspirated motor. Way bigger than gears or headers.

We had a customer come in here summer before last who had just installed a custom built 406 in his T/A, backed it up with a Hughs GM 25 converter and TH350 transmission. He was NOT overly pleased...
