I'd highly consider adding a thermal barrier while you're doing that work. The factory style insulation helps, but there are modern products these days that are more effective.

I keep a garden hose handy for rad fill (don't run antifreeze until after breakin is done), and also to spray down the rad fins occasionally to aid in cooling. It also helps when I get thirsty. ;)
