That's excellent work. You've got that welding thing down pat looks like.

Progress update:
Picture #1 Started sanding and wire wheeling the passenger rear inner fender well.
Picture #2 : Next took down the headliner and to my amazement the ceiling of the roof was like it left the factory. Not a speck of rust on it. Perfect in every way. (wish the whole car was that way) it even had some Admiralty Blue overspray on it.
Picture #3: Question. Is this the original headliner board???
And can it be reused, if so how do you remove the glue to make it bond ready.

Thanks

Bub

Took a short break on the car but started again and pretty much finished the repair on the passenger rear quarter just some minor grinding on the rear panel where it meets the fender. Primed it to keep surface rust off. Put the body work aside for now and started tearing down the rear suspension. Sand blasted the drive shaft, sway bar brackets, shock/spring brackets and stablizer bar and brackets primed and painted. I also added the three color bands on the drive shaft once I got the proper color codes. Started cleaning up the rear end housing and found some markings in green and red paint dabs on the axle tube. Also the underside of the center housing had the letter "G" painted in white paint. This is the first center housing I've seen painted on the bottom side instead of the top side. Once cleaned up and painted I will put these markings back in place.

Until next time.....................

Wow your car is really coming along nicely.....I have been wanting to get back into my 74 but its been too hot here in Georgia and I have been tinkering with my 78 getting ready for the Nationals.

My 74 will need a bit of rust repair, mainly lower rear quarters and a couple small spots...I am trying to get up the nerve to learn how to do some welding and work myself since I kinda bought this car with that purpose in mind..........I have been looking for a mig welder and some good books on welding and such...........Might look like Ray Charles got ahold of it though...when I am done.

Hey Mark, thanks for the comments. Just get the welder of your choice and practice on a lot metal before hitting the big time. It easier to waste sheet metal for learning but once you weld on the car you would hate to rip it off and start over.

I needed a break from the body work and wanted to start seeing some progress, so I started tearing the rear suspension apart and cleaning, degreasing and priming and then gave some of the pieces some paint. Now it looks like things are starting to come together. :clap2:

Hey Bub, looks really nice! How bad off were the quarters?

It's good to know they'll be another bird running around Slidell!! I'm originally from New Orleans and my brother and parents now live in Slidell.

Good luck!

Hey Mark, The drivers quarter had to be replaced (in progress) due to the car been hit right in the quarter ahead of the marker light. It was just full of bondo when I sanded it down and thought it would be better to replace it was a partial quarter then to rebuild it back up with bondo. The passenger quarter was in the same shape as the drivers, it was also hit (they must of used this car for demolition derby???) and the person I bought the car from started cutting the metal out and was going to replace it with an after market quarter. (see pics below) I got a partial quarter from a wrecked Trans Am that was rust free and replaced what the other guy had started. I also have a another partial quarter from another TA rust free that I will be using on the drivers side.
The pics below show the quarter being cut out and the finished product.

That looks great Bub!

I am watching your thread closely. I have a 1973 Formula I want to do the bodywork on myself. What products are you using? You make this look easy. Keep the pictures coming!

Thanks,

James

Thanks guys, It is really very rewarding working on this project along with my son and watching it take shape. Can't wait till I drive it down the street.
As for as products go James, I use PPG epoxy primer and high build primer and use Evercoat fillers to smooth out the body panels.(Extreme Rage and Metal Glaze). The metal glaze product is great.
If you are going to do your own work take your time and read as much as you can on forums like this and TAC. Without these I might not have tried to do the things I already accomplished. Patience Patience Patience is all I can tell you!
Any other questions you might have shoot me a pm and would be glad to help.
Will keep you posted with updates and pictures.

Wow you are making great progress on this car. I wish I could find the time to get going more on mine, My best months are after the Holidays to make some progress, but my 78 T/A is getting a complete Brake's renovation including a new cad plated booster and master cylinder, plus hoses, pads, yada yada.

Hopefully after that I will get back into the 74 some.
