I'm putting together a scrapbook for my '67 GTO. I'm looking for pictures from the GTO assembly plants: GTO bodies, engines, chassis', etc. being built on the assembly line, at end of line, etc. I'm also interested in pictures of the assembly plant exteriors.

Those are nice shots...I have seen others in books, though I'd have to look through them to give you titles.

I'd really like to see a picture of an "A" body coming down the 1971 assembly line. I have seen many more pics from 60's assembly than '70's. Didn't workers ever take personal photos on the lines?

I had a buddy that worked as an Engineer at Bethlehem Steel a few years ago. He had some "good" stories. Some were fairly gory. Dangerous work.

Have two long time local aquaintances, one worked at Fremont & other worked at Framingham, both in late 60's, early 70's. Need to quiz them some more, see if either have any old pics, or if any come out at GM retiree functions.

Eric71T37, most factories that I've worked at won't allow cameras in.

Just like rexus31, I hope someone can post pictures of some Goats lined up on a dealership lot, or maybe outside the vehicle assembly plant waiting to be shipped.

Man .. this is a great thread... where did you guys find these photos??? I would love to find some myself... Is there anygood websites that has info of the Pontiac Assembley plant??? Or hell any other Pontiac plant... I LOVE OLD PICS!!!!

Bada Bing - I'd also like to find a source of classic pictures on the web, but no luck so far... Most of the pictures that I've posted have come from different books that I have.

Check what appears to be ~'58~'59 'Vette parked in the driveway of the dealership pic above. Guess he's going to trade in on a new GTO or Firebird 400.
The pic below is supposedly of Boomershine Pontiac in downtown Atlanta. That's where my car was originally sold. There's a '68 'Bird behind the group on the left side of the pic.

I would say that the engine is almost near meltdown.
I would love to see the gauges on that panel board.

FYI, the reason why nobody has "factory" photos from personal cameras tucked away in albums is because cameras have always been forbidden on GM property, except for "official" photographers. GM has an unbelieveable warehouse of photos documenting their history and they are beginning to realize the commercial value! Here is a link to a gold mine of GM factory photos;

The odd thing about this pic is the HEI and round port heads and the tall valve covers.

On the engine pic, you can see the IV or HO intake. Can anyone make out the head by the over all look of it. The don't have the added bolt hole on the side up next to the intake, what year did that start. And any idea what the valve cover says?

Looks more like a 72 455HO to me....based on the intake, distributor and casting numbers in the center ports of the heads.

The thing that threw me a curve was posting the pic while posting factory pics, and on top of that probably converted it to B/W. I'm now thinking that it's just a current pic, but still not sure.

Maybe the Perses would be so kind, as to set us straight?

I don't think it is(production picture) based on all the dirty stuff around that engine and the aftermarket valve covers.

The B/W photo in the middle of the other factory pics threw me, plus the SD motor. I'd still like to know the story behind, probably interesting.

Absolutely. Just to reiterate, there is no way you should or could bring a personal camera into a GM facility.

This is a great thread, but kind of bittersweet for me.

I worked in Pontiac for a number of years and I don't recognize ANY of those buildings. I'm sure they are all gone.

In fact, after we moved from Pontiac to here at the Tech Center in Warren they bulldozed all of the cool old buildings, like the Administration building on South Blvd. I went back to the Pontiac Centerpoint complex for a meeting a couple weeks ago and literally got lost - because those landmark buildings are GONE, without a trace.

The old administration building on Widetrack Drive and the Engineering building on Joslyn are still there; if I can I'll take some pictures the next time I'm up that way and post them.
