Ok going to organize a post of top ten Drag open body and Door cars again, if you think you're fast enough please dig out your best ET slip and email me [email protected] or post below, will post my findings here tomorrow. Will do some catagorizing as guys like Bruce M. and Ray Cox have some big performers with heavier and lesser tired race cars. Everyone should know that there was progress this year and fastest of all time has been shuffled a bit.

Here's the list from 2003 (might have some left out, first time I ever attempted this list)

#1 Rodney Butler 6.91@202
#2 Marty Palbykin 6.95
#3 Arnie Beswick 6.95@215
#4 Bill Mellott [email protected]
#5 Bill Krech [email protected]
#6 Mike Cooper 7.450@175
#7 Jeff Kauffman 7.49@175
#8 Steve Barcek 7.50@189 was he driving?
#9 Dan Sweeney 7.50@186
#10 Paul Spotts [email protected]
#11 Eddie Hill 202mph MAYBE
#12 Eric Larson Grocery Getter Advanced ET? MAYBE

2004 has been a good year!

Tom Vaught 12-29-2004 08:22 PM

I am disappointed in your Rob.

Are you excluding John Welter's 6.92 et at 209 mph just because Rodney drove the car?

John's car was faster than Marty's on both counts.

Tom V.

As you said probably just an oversite even though it only happens a few months ago.

Please add the Kauffmans 200 mph pass too.

Rob 12-29-2004 08:46 PM

you're looking at the 2003 list Tom, holding out for the last of the 2004 passes, may even wait until Sunday if guys think they can put something on the board this weekend.

Can't add a KRE 200mph pass, but they were ohh so close throwing off the blower belts twice in a row.

Rob,

I thought you were taking the 2003 list and modifying those items based on the 2004 info.
Sorry!

Then why was that little *****, George giving me crap about the kauffman's 200 mph pass at
Norwalk this year? http://forums.performanceyears.com/g.../icon_wink.gif I hope you read this George as I will be one your butt if you lied
to me about that pass and I apologized and it wasn't true. http://pysales.com/images/spank.gif

Rob 12-29-2004 09:11 PM

Yea still organizing a list for the 2004

I think George rounded up a 199.98 or something. Maybe Mark made a pass that I missed.

-Rob

Paul Spotts 12-29-2004 09:41 PM

Rob - I went 7.35 @ 185 at Atco
7.36 at Norwalk

Scott Rex went 7.68

The 2005 list will be pretty impressive

Tom Vaught 12-29-2004 09:48 PM

Maybe I am the one confused, Maybe George said that they ran in the 6s for the first time (but did not make the MPH).

I might be wrong on my post.

Tom V.

Ray Cox 12-30-2004 12:25 AM

Rob Ill have to dig the slip out, but it was only 8.60 at 162mph 3475 lbs Bruce wins the fastest 10" tire class this year 8.500 at 3350 lbs

As for everyone else, Rob was talking about the Quickest Pontiac PERIOD not......D-Port or Iron head or 10.5 tire size or I ain't got the GUTs to put my engine in a lighter car thing! Run what you BRING, Wham/ Bham thank you mamm.......if you got it run it..... if you don't, keep it HOME! http://forums.performanceyears.com/g.../icon_cool.gif

Mike Davis 12-31-2004 08:08 AM

I'm gonna hijck this thread for a sec- While I know there are alot of fast Pontiacs out there, we are still very overlooked. Ken Keefer replied on the Proline crank post about needing some good forged cranks, cast intakes, and heads that flow---why don't we see many of these products?? At the NSCA or Pro events that I attend I try to talk to the company reps and tell them what we are missing- hoping that someone will listen- but when these reps look in the staging lanes and see the turn out and there are only a very small handful of Pontiacs they don't relay the info back to the companies. Let's face it- we are not going to get alot more stuff until people get off their asses and go to the track. Racing at Pontiac events is fun but that is not where the company scouts hang out. Until we are putting other makes on the trailer then we will be noticed. The cars in the list are fast but who outside of the Pontiac world knows about them?? I applaud guys like Ray,Bruce M, Tommy Thompson, Jeff Pucket, Ken Keefer, Lynn McCarty, etc that are out there putting brand X on the trailer. Has anyone thought about inviting some of the aftermarket companies to a MAJOR Pontiac event?? Go to Fun Ford or Super Chevy and see who is there- go to Norwalk and all you see is used parts- now off the soap box and back to the topic- if there are more people hitting the big events this list of fast cars would be 10 times longer because we would have the right parts to do it with!

PONTIAC DUDE 12-31-2004 08:21 AM

Seeing as Mongo is getting Anal........ again. LOL.

I agree Mike.

When ever I go to manufacture events I always bring up the fact that we need their company to offer this and that.

Response. Not enough demand.......... Yet.

I see them making parts for Limited production run engines on stuff such as 351C and 340 mopar. I don't know the reasoning behind it. http://forums.performanceyears.com/g...n_confused.gif

And the reps have no clue or even care what the demand of Pontiac parts are.

They just collect that paycheck and hang out with the Big Racing names. Party, party seems to be the word. http://forums.performanceyears.com/g...icon_frown.gif

johnta1 12-31-2004 08:22 AM

Mike, why not ask the reps to go to Norwalk and other Pontiac events to see how many Pontiacs are there?

If you go to a race with rules setup for mostly chevy or ford, that's what you'll likely find.

Mike Davis 12-31-2004 08:51 AM

John I would ask the reps to go but I feel it should be the promoters responsibility. They could give the manufacturers free display area and everyone could feed off it- The more aftermarket parts available for that make, the more racers there will be showing up for the race. Every other make that has a race-IE Fun Ford, Super Chevy have a loaded manufactures midway with everyone from E-brock to MSD. Let's face it who wants to look at 30 year old worn out junk? Years ago it was neat to look at the swap meet area but in the past 2 years the quality and quantity wasn't there. People are scrapping the bottom of the barrel to find stuff to sell-and MOST of what was there wasn't worth looking at. Time for some new parts to be produced and the only way to get them produced is to show these guys we are serious by the numbers! As all the factory performance stuff has been used up and the very few after market pieces are all on cars we are extinguishing ourselves. How many people on this board go to swap meets hoping to find the "holy grail" part they have been looking for to go home empty handed-there might have been 3 after market intakes at Norwalk last year and they were all over priced. To have more fast cars we need more parts that are reasonably priced. Best thing to do is just put together some junk - blow it up in front of these reps and then say if I had a new forged crank I could be competitive http://forums.performanceyears.com/g.../icon_wink.gif

GTOGEORGE 12-31-2004 09:02 AM

Talk about Hi-Jacking! So much for the Quickest Pontiac's in 2004. http://forums.performanceyears.com/g...n_rolleyes.gif

Mike Davis 12-31-2004 09:36 AM

George- you are right I did hijack the thread and my apologies to Rob- but we do need more manufacturer participation to see more than just a handful of fast cars.

GTOGEORGE 12-31-2004 09:39 AM

Mike,
You know it's always going to be a Ford & Chevy thing.....it's too bad. http://forums.performanceyears.com/g.../icon_cool.gif

Mike, any chance of a Pontiac competing in PRO Mod. Looks like NHRA is allowing TURBO powered cars in the field next year. I don't know much about the class but I think if a Pontiac powered car even qualified someone would notice.

Rob, How many of the top 10 Fastest Pontiacs are N/A?

johnta1 12-31-2004 01:20 PM

Or no power adder?

Paul Spott's probably and Jeff Kauffman.
Duh!
Forgot Paul had a blower.

Rob 12-31-2004 01:41 PM

Rules will dictate if Pontiacs can run, but in power-added classes the power-adder makes things more equal. It may be possible.

As far as the list, well it goes like this

1 Turbo
2 Supercharged
3 Turbo
4 Turbo
5 Supercharged
6 Supercharged
7 Supercharged
8 Supercharged
9 Supercharged
10 On Motor
11 Supercharged
12 NO2
13 NA
14 NO2
15 NA
16 NO2
17 NA
18 NO2
19 NA
20 NO2?
21 NA
22 NA

Mo 12-31-2004 01:51 PM

Thanks Rob, I thought Scott Rex was still the Fastest N/A door car http://forums.performanceyears.com/g.../icon_wink.gif.

gearbanger 12-31-2004 02:16 PM

I thought Marty P. had switched to a BBC?

Rob 12-31-2004 02:51 PM

Yep, Scott's #1

My list has some semi confirmed stuff, like Marty emailed my last year and said the 6.95 was with the Pontiac engine. I update whenever I get my hands on real timeslips. So anything with four digit ETs (like Scott's 7.682) is directly from the track timeslip.

-Rob

Wade Congdon 12-31-2004 05:05 PM

Rob,

You should probably rename your list Quickest rather than Fastest based on your order by ET rather than MPH. Nevertheless it is quite an impressive list, thanks for compling it!

Rob 12-31-2004 05:37 PM

Good Point! Hey you need to make a fasest RAV list!

-Rob

Paul Spotts 12-31-2004 08:53 PM

Nice job Rob

Of the top 10 - Marty and myself have/had factory blocks and heads - both D-ports http://forums.performanceyears.com/g...s/icon_eek.gif I also used a cast crankshaft - I forget if Marty used a billet or forging) But no more cast for me - going billet with bigger stroke

Tom Vaught 12-31-2004 09:12 PM

I would say that was pretty good that Marty finished number 3 considering he was running a
factory block, a forged 3.75 crank, and did not have current technology turbos.

Anyway you look at it the cars/engines have stepped up this year.

Good job! Guys!

I thought one of Welter's/Rodney's passes was a 6.92 Rob?

It was not on the same pass as the 209 I believe.

Tom V.

Rob 12-31-2004 09:28 PM

Yes I think you're right about one of John's runs being quicker, probably the sand trap one I missed. I'll have to call John and see if he has the timeslips handy.

I remember the 6.975 run well because it was just after Mark Kauffman ran 6.995. Rodney left & looked fast, went through the traps and the numbers lit up. You and Travis turned to John and said "there's your six second pass"! I looked at y'all and said "real good mph too". You both turned back to the scoreboard and seen the even more exciting number!

That was a huge day at Norwak.

-Rob

Ray Cox 12-31-2004 11:02 PM

Paul why dont we drop my motor in your car and see how far down the list we can move http://forums.performanceyears.com/g...on_biggrin.gif

GTOGEORGE 12-31-2004 11:25 PM

Because it would run slower then the engine he has in it already!!!! http://forums.performanceyears.com/g.../icon_razz.gif

Of course that would be a step in the right direction. http://forums.performanceyears.com/g.../icon_cool.gif

Wait a couple of years and it will be quicker.

GTOGEORGE 01-01-2005 09:20 AM

Ray,

Just BAD timing for my car. Almost every pass you had to be towed up to the staging lanes or towed back from you run.........nice STREET car? http://forums.performanceyears.com/g...n_rolleyes.gif
I'll be at Cordova, buddy and I bet I won't be towing my RACE car to or from my run, we'll how many passes we both make! http://forums.performanceyears.com/g.../icon_razz.gif

Tom Vaught 01-01-2005 09:47 AM

You made how many passes at Norwalk compared to Ray, George?

I lost count of Ray's passes (like you said he was getting towed a lot).

How many passes did you make?

I never saw your car in the lanes and wanted to see it run.

Tom V.

Rob 01-01-2005 10:34 AM

It was in the lanes and I seen it on the second pass? Wasn't ready and George smartly parked it before really hurting something.

Ray looked pretty good all weekend.

-Rob

Brian Baker 01-01-2005 11:12 AM

Two reasons for Ray's towing:

1.) He was having charging system issues (alternator).

2.) He shuts it off on the top end to check plugs.

Ray went 8.61 @ nearly 161 MPH at Norwalk, and he made I don't know how many runs on Friday, Saturday, and Sunday (I know of 4 on Saturday alone). And you, George? Oh that's right, your heap was on the trailer. http://pysales.com/images/spank.gif

New Years Day and the smack talking is reaching a fever pitch (LOL). Get your ducks in a row this year, George. I'd like to see another roots blown Pontiac run well this year.

Gee, you guys are killing me! My car was OFF the trailer Friday morning and didn't get loaded back up until Sunday afternoon http://forums.performanceyears.com/g...n_rolleyes.gif

2003 at Norwalk I raced all weekend even WON Saturday and got down to the semi's in the Quick 16...........never got towed to or from a run and Ray was broke all weekend. I guess that makes us even......no.....wait..... I'm up on Ray because I won Super Pro on Saturday and got some prize money Sunday(3rd Place). I don't think Ray won any money at Norwalk last year. http://forums.performanceyears.com/g.../icon_cool.gif. We'll see what happens this year, because I have one up on you guys I know how QUICK I have run last year (2004). http://forums.performanceyears.com/g.../icon_razz.gif
