I tried to buy one yesterday. F'ing dealers and GMCard BS.
http://www.ls1gto.com/forums/showthread.php?t=11098 I COULD have gotten the car for $23K or so. I could have added all the stuff from the 05 except the engine and I could have just added heads and cam or a supercharger if I wished. But to save almost $10K would have put me in one yesterday. |

Hey, at least it has "true duals" and lost the Ja Lo rear end look... http://forums.performanceyears.com/g...on_biggrin.gif
|
Those pics are with the sport appearance package, standard has 2 large pipes that look a little too ricer to me. I still like them better than the '04 which is also "true duals", they just both dump on the driver's side.
|
I don't remember this angle being discussed. While it remains to be seen how the 05's will sell, the 04's have been a challenge to unload at best. They may have to scrap the leftovers. Any guesses on resale value in, say 3 years. Even mr_gto may quit talking and come off the dime and trade the cavalier in on one. Even trade maybe?

In both the dominant automotive press and consumer appeal GM fails yet again. GM: R U listening?? Give us a GTO that looks like a GTO! |

Be sure, get the '05 and the styling upgrade... http://forums.performanceyears.com/g...icon_smile.gif |
If a little extra plastic means that much to you guys then you need help. I like the standard '05 but there's nothing (outwardly) that a few aftermarket bucks won't do to the '04. In fact, for those of you who said the '04 looked like a grand am (which it didn't), I'm amazed that you so wanted it to really look like a GA.
BTW...I'm not knocking the '05...I'm getting one...but not with the splitter pipes... |

Umm...which one looks MORE like the GA? Oh, that's right its the '05. Soon as I get my '05 I'll park it between my '04 GA and my '04 GTO and let you guys decide...I like the '05, not for the plastic but for the power and ride feel. |
btw: no, I haven't driven the '05 yet but it has 400 hp and I know how the '04 rides and except for the plastic and HP its the same car.
|
<BLOCKQUOTE class="ip-ubbcode-quote"><font size="-1">quote:</font><HR> HP its the same <HR></BLOCKQUOTE>
But the weight is different... http://forums.performanceyears.com/g...s/icon_eek.gif |
yep, 40 pounds or so lighter, same as the Autocross option on the '04.
|
<BLOCKQUOTE class="ip-ubbcode-quote"><font size="-1">quote:</font><HR>40 pounds or so lighter <HR></BLOCKQUOTE>
You may want to research that, I read it was going to be 50 lbs heavier.... |
Rabon: you already have a 04 GTO? Why are you getting a 05 if you can get the Auto something package?

I'm with you, not against you....
|
So just what is it that you think is bull Danny, I'd like to know? I own a black on black '04 GTO purchased in Fort Wayne, Indiana. I posted the pics from the November '03 press release of the AUTOCROSS OPTION PACKAGE on an '04 GTO. Its the same style as you said you were starting to like. I am getting an '05 and I won't be getting it with the AUTOCROSS OPTION PACKAGE because I don't like the package (hate the splitter pipes) and the one that is on order is a blue on blue and the AUTOCROSS OPTION PACKAGE is ONLY available for the black and red goats. Which of these things is bull Danny? The November '03 press release is located on UltimateGTO.com under "press releases" in case you think that is bull. I can give you the VIN numbers on both the '04 black GTO that I currently own and on the '05 blue GTO that is on the way (though I am reluctant to give those online). So what is bull Danny? Is it just that you are jealous that I will shortly have two new GTOs?
In case you missed it, the GTO option package that you posted pictures of and so obviously like is called the AUTOCROSS OPTION PACKAGE and you can find those pics under "press releases" on UltimateGTO.com. The pictures in case you miss it have the 5.7 liter badge on the rear and in case you didn't know the '05 is a 6.0 liter. So what is bull Danny? Tell me, I'd really like to know. |
Goathead wrote: You may want to research that, I read it was going to be 50 lbs heavier....
Pontiac.com shows the '05 GTO to be 3725 pounds while the '04 GTO is 3770 pounds. That's 45 pounds LIGHTER, in case you thought that was the bull...anyway...I'll be waiting to hear what was bull. |
Wow, lighter with the bigger motor...wonder what they did to lighten it...wonder if they really did lighten it or if the '04 wt. is with fuel & '05 is without (?) By the way, I just got back from another exhilarating drive --- I love this damn car!!!!
|
<BLOCKQUOTE class="ip-ubbcode-quote"><font size="-1">quote:</font><HR>the sports package was available for the 2004 with the Auto something Package, doesnt make sense to buy a brand new car just for 50hp <HR></BLOCKQUOTE>
Comprenede? That makes no sense to me, just like it does not make sense to you... http://forums.performanceyears.com/g...n_rolleyes.gif Also, bigger motor means more weight. Check out the weight of a LS1 verses an LS2. So, my question is where does the 100 lb weight loss come from? http://forums.performanceyears.com/g...n_rolleyes.gif |
Goathead wrote: Comprenede? That makes no sense to me, just like it does not make sense to you...
If that was your response to me asking "What was bull?"...Then let me ask you this: Do you know of anyone who owns more than one Goat? Ever hear of anyone who likes a car so much that they want to buy two of them? I think these cars are so well built that they will stand the test of time as well as any GTO ever has. In any event, my son is interested in my '04, if you must know. |
As far as the weight of the '04 versus the '05, the numbers aren't mine. They're Pontiac's. I am just quoting what they published. If you think they're wrong, talk to them about it.

I'm not taking any sides here, but manufacturers are known for, how should I say, posting very 'optimistic' data. Somebody who buys an '05 (or an '04) should take it to the scales at the local track and tell us the 'real' numbers. |

Goathead wrote: I own 3 real ones and a Firebird...
That's exactly my point...there's nothing wrong with owning more than one Goat...I am sure yours are nice cars...have no problem calling them GTOs...I own one GTO and am getting another...that you don't consider mine to be "real" GTOs won't affect the fact that every magazine, car manufacturer and after market manufacturer from this point forward will accept them as real GTOs. When someone searches my VINs years from now they will see that they are GTOs...just like yours...the '04s and '05s are already "in the books" and there is nothing that the nay-sayers can do about it...except whine... |

Given the lack of product developement, marketing, GTO identity and overall negative reaction a precedent may have very well been set for a 2nd demise of the GTO. GM had a real opportunity with the GTO to be the leader in a renewed musclecar movement and they blew it. |

Fercrissakes, man, they took a Tempest off the line, crammed the bigger engine under the hood, probably firmed up a bolt here & a weld there, stiffer shocks, a GTO tag & voila, you've got yourself the original Goats. You keep acting like the GTO's were clean-sheet designs, unique platforms like the 'Vette. Come out in the sunlight man & view reality. I like the ol' GTO's bout as much as anyone, but facts is facts! The present GTO is light-years beyond anything thats worn the badge before, the fact that the skin over the top hasn't lit the fires of a lot of lookers is easily overcome, either by getting people to drive one (a drive makes the car look oh so much better) or pump up the boy-racer looks ala the 'Stang by altering the sheetmetal/plastic cosmetics. In the meantime I'll continue to enjoy the best car I've ever owned & enjoy the looks that <I> personally love! |
