Some pictures of my engine that will be runing soon, It is the orignal 71 400 Block 0.60 over with the original M-21 four speed that I redid a few years ago. Tell what you think this Goat will run with a 3.55 gear. It will look stock when it is done to the novice.... Quadrajet, factory air cleaner, intake painted blue, ram air manifolds. It is a numbers matching car, except I am putting a of 6X-8 on it but I have the original 96 heads in my garage.

Looks nice! Since you are doing all that why not pop for a new steel flywheel?

tremo 01-16-2005 09:08 AM

Very nice. Love 'dem clean parts! http://forums.performanceyears.com/g.../icon_razz.gif Keep this thread updated on your progress...

Good luck!

Yeah, looks great, should run real strong too! I would think it'd be a blast to drive, just don't get too crazy without a scattershield!

Thw Comp XR-288-10 cam is now in the block, I spent some time on removing the flashings on the outside of the lifterbores and "smothing" out the lifter gallery area for better oil return.

Which damper is that?

67vertBird 02-24-2005 09:59 PM

Looks nice, what kind of compression will that setup get you? I am just a week or 2 behind you on a 400 build.

GTO71 02-25-2005 01:50 AM

Romac dampner, 9.5 to 1 Compression.

ErikW 02-25-2005 03:47 PM

Arias or JE, which are they?

GTO71 02-25-2005 06:11 PM

Sorry the are JE, Ihad two sets of slugs and I was in a hurry when I posted the pictures. http://forums.performanceyears.com/g...s/icon_eek.gif

Jagtec1 02-25-2005 06:49 PM

Am I missing something here?? A .060 over 400 with 102cc chambered heads will not give you anywhere close to 9.5:1 CR. http://forums.performanceyears.com/g...n_confused.gif You're more like 8:1 if the specs you gave are correct.

Lerry: The Body Ventura.. 02-25-2005 07:45 PM

Keep us informed on whether it runs as good as it looks. That's the real deal...

GTO71 02-25-2005 11:44 PM

Not missing anything, but you can't assume that I would give away me whole combo's specs!!! http://pysales.com/images/evil.gif

Jagtec1 02-26-2005 04:09 AM

Blown? Turbo? Cuz, it's not 9.5:1!! Looks good, good luck with it. Just wondering why you said it would be 9.5:1 with those specs.

Mo 02-26-2005 07:21 AM

Maybe that crank has a little extra stroke in it.

Jagtec1 02-26-2005 10:03 AM

Could be, but it wouldn't be a 400 then! (See topic header) Just breakin stones! http://forums.performanceyears.com/g.../icon_wink.gif If it's a 4.21 stroke, that puts him right around 9:1.

400 stroker to 461(4.25 stroke)

Jagtec1 02-26-2005 12:31 PM

I'm building a "400" also! http://forums.performanceyears.com/g...on_biggrin.gif http://forums.performanceyears.com/g.../icon_wink.gif Says so right on the block!

pro-tour79 02-26-2005 12:37 PM

have not looked at an after market crank in a while but that crank has no hash markes for the rear seal don't look like a 400 crank to me http://forums.performanceyears.com/g...n_confused.gif

GTO71 03-01-2005 04:20 PM

No, I am having 9.5 comp with the custon pistons, also if you look on how most piston companys rate compression ratios with heads they are usually rated with the pistons .008 in the whole and the TRW pistons have for valve releafs, using a head gasket of about 45 thousands. My gaskett is 37 thousands compressed and like I said I have custom piston made up to get the compression of 9.5 to 1 and I said that my slugsd were .005 in the hole but they relly close to being a 0 Deck height.

Jagtec1 03-01-2005 06:55 PM

Are they domed pistons??? Don't look like it. My calculations with .037 compressed gasket, zero deck, and let's say 5cc valve relief area still only come to around 8.3:1 with a 3.75 stroke and 4.181 bore (If that is what the bore and stroke are). I'm not trying to be a jacka$$, just curious as to how you are arriving at those compression #'s with a 102cc head.

loren 03-01-2005 07:50 PM

nice

GTO71 03-02-2005 08:45 AM

No man, They are custom made pistons, I gave the piston manufactor the spec of my rod lenght, deck height, cc of chamber and head gasket thickness and got a piston designed to get a 9.5 to 1 ratio. Jeez I put pics up for peolpe to enjoy and get my head bit off. I got too much time invested and money not to waste by goofing up on a compression issue!!!!!

GTO71 03-02-2005 08:45 AM

And I will let my time slips to the talking.

Lerry: The Body Ventura.. 03-02-2005 09:08 AM

Time slips won't be talking that loud with that c.r. Unless with some kind of boost.
