I raced a 04 Mustang Cobra with the 390HP supercharged engine. By the time we hit 60 he was 10 car lengths ahead of me http://forums.performanceyears.com/g...s/icon_mad.gif

I guess some more mods are in order.

I appreciate your honest post. What mod's are available for this car to tighten the gap?
Anyone?

Lots of mods. Last month I went to a SVT dyno day at a local Ford dealer. A bone stock '04 Cobra with 4000 miles pulled 391 HP at the wheels.http://forums.performanceyears.com/g...s/icon_eek.gif Thats 100 HP more than the stock GTO is pulling at the wheels. Its time for the bottle or a supercharger. http://forums.performanceyears.com/g...icon_smile.gif

T/A 70 07-30-2004 12:02 PM

So at 8000 miles he'll be pulling 392 hp? http://forums.performanceyears.com/g.../icon_wink.gif

gto57 07-30-2004 12:21 PM

I have a 4" intake tube and the K&N Cone filter and the SLP MAF installed. My car did a dyno run with 331 RWHP, so he only had about 60 more RWHP if you saw one dyno at 391 RWHP.

JSchmitz 07-30-2004 02:59 PM

So, spend the difference in sticker price on the Goat and see what happens.http://forums.performanceyears.com/g...on_biggrin.gif

David Holmberg 07-30-2004 08:00 PM

We have several Cobra's in our local club. One with a few bolt ons, and the stock eaton blower makes 582 RWHP.
Another with a KB, and a few other bolt ons is well over 600RWHP.

Your best bet with a Cobra is from a dead stop , the IRS holds 'em back. Both of the above cobras have a solid rear axle now... http://forums.performanceyears.com/g.../icon_wink.gif

JSchmitz, there is no difference between a Cobra and a GTO, out the door priced. (Now that the rebates have started it might help) But I know guys that have bought new Cobras for less than a GTO. http://forums.performanceyears.com/g...icon_frown.gif

I made 455hp 475 torque with mine, smaller pulley, cai and cb. The thing that really impressed me was the torque curve. It is over 400 from 2500 up to 5800. I haven't seen one close to 600 hp on the eaton. Maybe he's spraying also. I still haven't seen a gto around here yet. I want to test drive a 05 when they come out.I would think it should be pretty close to the cobra in performance.

David Holmberg 07-30-2004 08:34 PM

Well, right now they Claim what, 350 HP, and they dyno at 290 RWHP. The Cobras claim 390 and they dyno very close to it. Next year they are claiming 400, but I would guess around 330 RWHP. As soon as they are out, we'll have one on the dyno to see. http://forums.performanceyears.com/g...on_biggrin.gif

The Stock Eaton Cobra belongs to a SGT in the Guard, and is very tight lipped about his mods. I got enough of a look at the dyno to see that number, but he does have the eaton and no bottle. I heard a rumor about 16lbs of boost, but he won't say.

But anyone that want't to come to Tampa I can set up all the fun you would want. http://forums.performanceyears.com/g.../icon_wink.gif

The 391 HP was the only stock one at the dyno day. As David posted the numbers of the modded ones. Thats about the same as I saw with the modded cars. I was there with a buddy and his slightly modded Lightning. He pulled 420HP and 500 FTLBS of TQ. It runs 12.70's with stock radials. Not bad for a 4600lb truck.

svede1212 07-31-2004 07:33 AM

10 car lengths by 60 MPH in only a little over 5 seconds? if that's how it went down he wasn't stock

LS1 edit is now available for the GTO. I have seen a lightly modified GTO, headers, cat-back system and K&N kit. It was pulling about 340 RWHP, the LS1 edit was used to upgrade the computer, and it went to 431 RWHP. A nice increase for 10 minutes of programing.

*cough* BS *cough*

the highest i have ever seen an internally stock, N/A aspirated motor with bolt ons and Edit is 250-260rwhp , and that motor was a freak.

ctgross 07-31-2004 10:54 AM

I've read these posts lately, with I think an open mind on what's the bottom line on this cars performance, short of a $5 grand transplant under the hood, it appears somebody's lie'n!

Ditto!

In order to make 431 RWHP, it would need a heads and cam change, along with the headers. We do this every day with the LS1/LS6 and Ford Mod Motors... http://forums.performanceyears.com/g.../icon_wink.gif

Back to the GTO, I guarantee you can take a STOCK 04 GTO, add a 3500 lock up converter and Drag Radials, drive it to the track and it will run mid 12's depending on the track and temps... http://forums.performanceyears.com/g...on_biggrin.gif It's been done many times with the F body and again with the GTO...
