-   -   GTO Concept to be shown at Woodward Dream Cruise (https://forums.maxperformanceinc.com/forums/showthread.php?t=402407)

Nickv 08-11-2004 07:59 PM

The GTO concept has a 6.3-liter V-8 engine with 500 horsepower at 5200 rpm and 500 lb.-ft. of torque at 5000 rpm. It also has a six-speed manual transmission, modified brakes, bigger wheels and tires and new exhaust. The bright orange exterior features a new hood, fender, quarter panel, spoiler, front and rear fascia and rockers.

The modified GTO is an "Employee Enthusiasm" vehicle, an internal volunteer program that gives younger GM engineers the opportunity to manage a concept car from start to finish. The first public showing for the concept GTO will be at a Woodward Dream Cruise press conference at 11:00 a.m., Tuesday, Aug. 17 at Pioneer Park in Royal Oak. They will then be on display at Athens Coney Island throughout the Cruise.

This sounds like it will force him to get his checkbook out... http://forums.performanceyears.com/g.../icon_wink.gif

500HP / 500ft of torque?

bonneville Joe 08-13-2004 12:03 PM

Cool, maybe this GTO might look something like a GTO.

It better NOT look like the 60's-70's. We don't
need any boxy, bulky, outdated looks.

"We" is evidently the person Nicks signature is aimed at, especially considering their last, (and first) 37 posts. http://forums.performanceyears.com/g...n_rolleyes.gif http://forums.performanceyears.com/g...on_biggrin.gif

I think it looks great!! I like my 04 alot and even it's smooth looks, but I'm no dummy. That is the bomb. http://forums.performanceyears.com/g...on_biggrin.gif

It may be hinting at the 06-07 design. http://forums.performanceyears.com/g...on_biggrin.gif

70455RA 08-17-2004 07:16 PM

Still only one exhaust pipe? The front end does look great though.

phendee 08-17-2004 08:23 PM

That car looks awesome. Well now I can sleep
it doesn't look like the 60's GTO. That would
have been a shame.

Duals out both sides. The pic is just to dark. Has splitters like the 64 and 72 GTO's.

judge_jury_executioner_69 08-17-2004 10:47 PM

looks like a mustang with the scoop in front of the rear wheel. but a lot better then the 04. but not as good as it should .

GTO_2004 08-18-2004 01:49 AM

i hear capacity is 389cubes, im just picturing it... 500hp , 500 tq..

the scoops, the bulges, the dish on the rims... awesome... I LOVE IT !!!

Young One79TA 08-18-2004 02:38 AM

Wow! I like it! Love the front end and other body work. It does look like a 94-98 Mustang on the sides but that's ok. If this is the direction they are going, I would definately buy one in 3-4 yrs when I'm out of college. http://forums.performanceyears.com/g...on_biggrin.gif

I like it, it kind of looks like a cross between the '99 Concept GTO and the '04 GTO.

From my wife:
'It looks ok but not muscle enough, it should be bigger. It's like the mini
versions of muscle cars. I guess there are plenty of small fast cars it
just doesn't look like what I think a GTO should look like.'

Ok, I think I'll have to take her to see an '04 again so she can see how big they really are. 'Mini version'? 'Mini version'??

I don't know, it's a modern GTO you can't expect it to look like a '69 (or '65, or '73...), but, I definitely like this better than the '04.

I think the hood scoops need to be farther towards the front so they could be more effective, since it looks like it has a Ram Air intake. It needs to be more like the '99 Concept here.

Ditto

The wheels are too generic though, need to stand out a bit. Love that spoiler and the color of course.

I agree, I kind of like those big honeycombs on the '99 Concept, but it definitely needs some wheels that look different.

Okkk... You must have bad eyes. I see no resemblence to the Mustang at all.

I'd sell vacuums door to door if I had to in order to get a car payment scraped up! That is hot! GM makes that and I won't be able to resist anymore.

I like it. Hopefully some one at GM will look at the positive comments the car is sure to generate and use it in the future. Building a great car is not rocket science. Get the consumer involved in the process and they will tell you exactly what they want.

Goathead forgot to finish my quote where I said I liked it. But yeah it does resemble the Mustang from the sides only!
This is what the sides reminded me of when I first saw it. (My brother has a Turbo '97 Mustang GT) http://forums.performanceyears.com/g...n_rolleyes.gif
I still love that GTO though! http://forums.performanceyears.com/g...icon_smile.gif

Can't they come up with something a little more original. Although, I dig the motor. Have you seen the new issue of Popular Hot Rodding. That Horton guy did a concept of a new GTO next to a new Charger. Looks good. Better than the orange car.

HUMBLER 08-24-2004 05:50 AM

got a scan?

cblandin 08-24-2004 06:59 PM

Hmmm - I have to admit I like the muscular rear haunches on this version, but the whole thing looks a little "boy racer" (or is that "ricer") to me. I could probably live with it (heck, I've owned 3 Firebirds), but this entire direction (stylistically) seems to contradict with Pontiac's stated intent to compete in the BMW arena. BMW drivers aren't going to like the gee whiz styling, and a younger buyer who might now be intrigued by it doesn't have $30K+ to fork over for it. Come to think of it, wasn't this the same type of marketing that helped kill the Firebird - powerful, look-at-me, look-at-me styling, and a price tage that few folks interested in "look-at-me" styling could afford?

Actually the ONLY thing that looks good on that GTO concept is the hood. Otherwise it doesn't do a thing for me.
