Nice drawing.

I like the looks of NickVs 04 better. |
I agree it looks like an Aztek coupe!

Now explain the engine option to me, I thought it was always going to be an LS2? Or at least early it was going to be the LS2 and then rumor it was the LS6? Or do I have the backwards? Also, the 05 will look like the Autocross or not exactly? |
This looks tons better than the current car.

I tried to follow the link to GM press releases that started this thread on 6/11 and got the following message:
The page you were looking for was not found, or is not available. Please return to the GM Media Online homepage. I poked around online and found the following specs that seem to have been copied form the page: What’s new for 2005 LS2 6.0L engine replaces LS1 400 horsepower (295 kw) 395 lb.-ft. of torque (546 Nm) Available hood with twin air scoops Revised rear fascia incorporating outlets for new split dual exhaust system Polished exhaust outlet tips Larger brake rotors and calipers Red-painted calipers with GTO logo on front caliper Driver foot rest Two new colors: blue and grey Model Lineup Engine Transmissions 6.0L V-8 redline 6500rpms Does that sound about right based on what anybody saw before GM took the page down? |
that are the correct specs for '05.
|
Any info on '05 pricing yet vs. the '04? I don't really give a crap about the engine since I'm a gearhead and modify them anyway (MagnaCharger already has a 130 hp bolt-on supercharger kit for the GTO for sale), but none of the available colors appeal to me at all. Something dark and understated would be nice, but not if I have to pay 5 grand extra for it.

That's a sharp looking car Danny. Where'd you get that drawing from?

PWG calls it "The Tiger King." The following enhancements, it says, infuse this vehicle with character from the Pontiac gene pool: • 1968 GTO-inspired twin nostril hood flanking classic Pontiac "ironing board" raised center • "Tiger Gold Pearl" House of Kolor paint • 18-in. "Tribute" wheels by Oasis inspired by original Hurst wheels • Stainless steel 3-piston "Tri Power" calipers and 14-in. slotted rotors • Kenne Bell supercharged 5.7-liter V8 engine • Hurst Competition Plus shifter for 6-speed manual transmission • Exhaust splitters by Year One • "Off the shoulder" roll-and-pleated leather parchment interior by Katzkin |

Just as long as the hood is optional...
I am sure a flat aftermarket hood would be really cheap to buy, if availiable. |

Personally, I think things like hood scoops, wings, and air ducts usually end up making the car just look ricey. Putting a scoop in the middle of the hood serves absolutely no purpose - even if it actually functioned, air would most likely come OUT of it because the center of the hood is a low pressure area. Why do you think the NASCAR boys have their intakes at the bottom of the windshield? |

It's called cowl induction. Works well, and has for years. http://forums.performanceyears.com/g...n_rolleyes.gif Hood scoops are mostly mostly cosmetic, but, when done right, they do work... http://forums.performanceyears.com/g...icon_smile.gif |

If you want to use a forward-facing hoodscoop in the middle of the hood, you have to lift it way up above the hood - ala pro stock. The original GTO scoop was purely cosmetic. |
That hood is a little too retro for my tastes. Stonebreaker is absolutely right, the location of the fresh air openings are in the wrong place. Until 1971, the scoops on the GTO were in an ineffecutal location. Most of the current GTO renderings place the scoops in the same non-functional spot in the low-pressure area at the center of the hood. Get them to the front of the hood where they can do some RAMMING! That front loction would probably make ducting fitment less of a nightmare as well.

Back in the 60's you didn't have the problem with rice like you do now. It doesn't matter if the car is a honduh or a camaro, if you stick a wing on the back and a big scoop on the hood, it just screams 'rice'. Never mind if the camaro has the balls to actually need the wing, it's rice by association. |
GTO scoop was purely cosmetic.
So? Is there something wrong with a car that looks good? So you like that jellybean common lack of class look... http://forums.performanceyears.com/g...n_rolleyes.gif |

You're voting for Kerry, I assume? By 'clean lines', I'm thinking of something like a '68-70 Chevelle. That car don't need NUTHIN. You can enhance it's impact with big wheels and dropping the ride height an inch or two, but wings and scoops just get in the way. The new GTO is the same way. It has very clean, simple lines. The way to change its look is to lower the suspension and maybe change the rake a little, and add the optional 19" Monaro wheels. This isn't an 'in your face' car. It's a second look car - At first look it just looks like another commuter car, but then you take a second look and you notice the lowered stance and the dual exhaust. Then when you HEAR the exhaust, you KNOW this car is something special... I don't like the changes Pontiac made for the GTO. They basically just stuck a Grand Am front end on it as a way for pontiac executives to 'mark their territory'. Nothing to do with improving the looks, just ego. Interesting example of what's still wrong at GM. PS - Here's something you might like: Dick Harrell Camaro |
PS - Here's something you might like
Sorry, not especially. The rim's are crapy and the tires are kidney crunchers. The hood is nice because it is not only functional, but it is not bland like the Holden, and the front end looks nasty, like a muscle car should.... http://forums.performanceyears.com/g...icon_smile.gif |
Well, there are only going to be thirty made. I suspect you can probably order any rim and tire combo you want. I figured you'd like it because it's definitely 'in your face!'

Graphics reak of a AAR cuda, why would they do that?? Looks fantastic though...

And you are right about the looks, no sleeper there. I would like to the the back too. I definately like it more than the current rebadged Monero... http://forums.performanceyears.com/g...icon_smile.gif |
