I'm thinking about buying a 2004 after checking area (Western NY) dealers. At the 20 dealers within a 70 mile radius of my house there is about 100 in stock. GM is mow offering $2000 rebate and combined with my GMS discount I can buy one for 27,845. Couple grand more in rebates and it will be priced right. Just picked up a Envoy as a daily driver and the wife got a new GP/GT2 as a driver in April but this is getting too good to pass up. Would make a nice companion to my 64. How are prices in other parts of the country??

Evidently not cheap enough.

GMS? Meaning General motors smart buy? ??
|
GMS? I thought that meant General Motors Supplier discount?

They are now selling though, this may be it for the incentives. Hard to say if we'll see any additions but I would give it another month or so. You may have to take what is available though where as now you can pretty much still get whatever color/tranny you want.

GMS is buy off lot and GMO is order. "GM Supplier" is typically the term used when talking supplier discount but I've also seen some call this GMS. Very confusing... Also, can you change your avatar please, very distracting! http://forums.performanceyears.com/g...on_biggrin.gif |
If anyone is interested. Sewell Pontiac in Dallas, is selling GTO's @ the Supplier Discount price without any haggling. Very easy to work with, and they have about 6-7 in stock. Ask for Jason or Sadalah, 2 great sales people.

I bit the bullet today and leased a 6sp for 24 months. The deal was too good to pass up. GMS deal was 291 a month. gm came out with a 3500 incentive with gmac fin. or lease plus gms deals get another 1000. Im not crazy about the exterior but the car rides great. the best part is that I traded a vibe that I owed 6700 on and I got a check back for 5000. Oh yea progressive dropped my rate by 69 every 6 months. I'm pretty jacked up!!
|
I checked out Power Pontiac in Hawthorne/Manhattan Beach California area yesterday. They had 5 GTOs on the lot, including a nice side-by-side comparo of the barbados Blue and Impulse Blue. Only one was a M6.
This dealer had a $5000 "market adjustment" in the windows!!! Yup - trying to get $38k for them! And then the salesman tells me there's not going to be a 2005 GTO - "they cancelled it", he said. Looks like I'm not going to be buying from these guys... |

One of the salesman said he had just bought the 2nd to last one 2 weeks ago and missed this deal. I actually think this car gets more looks than my 70 or at least as much. |
Buy now or wait? You can buy now for right around invoice and have pretty good selection. Ask the dealer for a couple of $500 Instant Value Certificates and save an additional grand. Wait and maybe get a better deal, but on a yellow automatic. Fine if that's what you want. What will be interesting to watch is number of cars sold in September and number of cars still on the lots plus number of 04's still inbound. I don't expect incentives to get any worse, but if sales are strong in September, and the Pontiac bean counters think they can sell the rest of the 04's at the current rebate levels, then waiting just means you get stuck with the leftovers. My completely uneducated guess is that they will sell around 1500 in Sept and have about 3000-3500 left. That would take about 2-3 months and concide nicely with the 05 arrivals in December. Just a SWAG.

My next door neighbor just bought a new 2004 last weekend for 25k here in Nebraska. These cars are not moving like they thought and he said he just kept walking torward the door until they came down. I also know that new car dealers are really hungry the last week of the month to hit numbers to show the banks. 25k is as low as I have seen, this will kill the second hand market. I went for a ride in it and it is fast and nice, but they could have done alot more to make it more retro looking.
|
I think the main reason these cars are not selling well is because of two reasons. Limited advertising and exposure, and dealer practices. I finally made up my mind to purchase one after lenghthy debating even though this car has recieved nothing but bashing. I went to the first dealership Saturday and told the salesperson I thought I was ready to purchase one but I needed to test drive one first. They would not let me test drive it until AFTER I completed a contract. I tried to convince them that I was serious about buying and showed them my pre-approval from GMAC but still was not allowed to test drive even the Sales manager's demo. So I left that dealership, went to another (Lou Fusz in St Louis), was immediately offered a test drive and drove my new GTO home one hour later. This car is great and probably the best driving car I have ever owned. As others have said, styling is somewhat lacking but the driving experience more than attones for it.

Recent advertised prices here in the Detroit metro area are in the $24,800 range. This includes all rebates and GM employee discounts.
|
Gtoric, next time you see them advertised for that, shoot me an e-mail where the dealer is. I cannot seem to get the dealers around here to budge. They keep saying this is a rare care etc..
|
I sure like the 2005 but I have an offer for $25690 using GMAC finance. What do you think?
|
I've certainly seen plenty of ads for 5k off MSRP. If there are any dealers still holding on to the thought that this car is going to sell @ or above MSRP, they are crazy. The model year is OVER, and the calender year is soon to be history. How many 04's remain unsold as of right now? 30-40% of the 18k allotment? There are better deals yet to come. I mean what are they going to do, send them back to OZ?
|
I recently bought an 04 (red 6sp) after deciding the price was too attractive to wait for an 05. I love the car and have no regrets at all. It's fast enough for me as is, synchros are very good, exhaust sound is spot on perfect in my opinion. I paid 28,500. and then got the .9% for 36 months. Some deals may be better but I'm satisfied with the car and the deal. Paul
|
Maybe it was the pricing of the GTO that kept people away and not neccesarily the styling of the car. Seems alot of people here and on other boards have bit and bought a 2004 GTO.
|
For me, the more realistic price point overcomes my aesthetic values. There is a lot wrong with the car for it to go out the door for more than 30k. There are also a lot of good things, so when you start seeing them for 25k and under, more will sell, despite the uninspired looks. I'm probably a fairly representative potential buyer; I'll consider one, but it will go out the door for under 25k with 0% for at least 60 mo... and I think the car is ugly. Not Asstick ugly mind you, but a real yawn at best.
|
I have seen MANY MANY Less on my GMbuypower.com
ONce the rebates hit, dealers were getting pressure to move them. I have a offer for GMS-$3500rebate-$1200GMCard. But since I owe more on my Cav than what it is worth, I am not going upside down. I should have it paid off by next year at this time and there will be rebates on '05 GTO's which are going to be better than the 04's |

Ugly cars, even sort of ugly cars, don't get looks like this car does. |
I have to agree with Humbler. I'm always getting looks in the 04 GTO. A few times on my way to work I've even got the thumbs up from people who appreciate the car and what it is. I have yet to get a negative comment from anyone who has seen the car. To say the car is ugly doesn't compute with me.
I still like it's smooth lines and without the spoiler It looks even better. http://images6.fotki.com/v96/photos/...jpg?1091901645 http://images6.fotki.com/v96/photos/...jpg?1091901679 |
Nice Volvo C70.
http://forums.performanceyears.com/g.../icon_wink.gif My problem with Scumaros, Fireturds and Borevettes (besides the fact that they're plasticar pieces of crap) is the fact that I can't fit into them. At 6'1" and 245, I'm just too tall to fit into them comfortably. The interiors on those cars are such garbage, that they remind me of the '84 Chevy Cavalier that my wife used to own. I sat inside a GTO in May in Virginia, and as fugly as the car is, the interior layout is phenomenal. Lots of legroom and side-to-side room. Very nicely-done and very comfortable. The quality of the leather and the fit and finish of the interior components made the interiors of the above 3 cars look like a Kia. |
I think I would deffinately chop the wing if I hadn't leased it. Did you fill and repaint or did you just plug the holes?
...or is that a photochop? Looks awesome. |
wow, your car looks nice nick !! even moreso without the spoiler...
its just hanging for a set of beefy 18" rims now... |
filled the holes and painted the trunk lid. Did it myself.
|
OK, the term "ugly" is a bit harsh, but un-inspired is right on. Having said that, the removal of the spoiler is a HUGE step in the right direction. Also, as I type this, I'm about to leave to see if the local dealer wants to reduce his bloated inventory. If he wants to play, I will have one of my own in a few hours (and then I can bash it all I want).
Welcome back Scott |
i think he said fugly but anyways it definately makes the car look more streamline with out the spoiler. pontiac should have made a small duck tail spoiler that would have been a bit more classy that the current spoiler, it almost makes the car look stubby, although i would keep it on if it came with it
|
btw r u trying to keep up with the bmr boys with the spoiler delete http://forums.performanceyears.com/g.../icon_razz.gif
|
p.s. there isnt a car around that comes close to this car for under 30k. i KNOW i will be kicking myself in the ass for not taking advantage of this sick deal, but its just not possible for me now, even though i testdrove the one i'd buy and drool on it. and i was very disappointed when the car first came out, but theres nothing a slp hood and true duals can't fix. except maybe a civic
|
No deal this time. Best the guy could do was right at 30k for the M6, and that was 5k over my offer. I was willing to go his way perhaps a grand after I saw the color combo (silver, with red/black int), but I could easily walk away for 30k. However, since I bought my Yukon from the same guy, he just threw me the keys and told me to watch out for cops. I had a pretty extensive test drive and with no adult supervision, I got a much better sense for the car than I did the first time several months ago with the automatic. I'm not going to say this is the finest car on the planet by any means, but I am now pretty damn impressed. Compared to the auto, the M6 is a beast. There are still some things that bug me about it, but now I'm looking at it from the perspective of a blue collar hot rod, rather than the BMW competition. I can tell you that I will almost certainly buy one if (when) the price goes under 25k. I am going out of the country for a few months so when I return I'll be looking for the silver with red/black M6 (hope it is not a popular color combo).
BTW, the car I drove had some noticable drivetrain "snatch" and noise when on/off throttle in the lower gears... Is this normal? |

quote:
Maybe it was the pricing of the GTO that kept people away and not neccesarily the styling of the car.

If it looks like a cheap car, then you are correct... http://forums.performanceyears.com/g...on_biggrin.gif |
the silver red/black combo is my favorite...the one my dealer had was silver/black
|
Had to go red/red because of my 70 but the Silver /red was a close second.
You the man Nick, looks great. There is a duck tail available but you still have to fill the holes. Someone is coming out with a ducktail that fits the existing holes or at least covers them up so you don't have to fill. Starting to feel a little lonely GH? You should... http://forums.performanceyears.com/g.../icon_wink.gif |

Just checked and incwentives are currently being updated...drum roll please...

That MIGHT push me over the edge. I could have had $5700 off GMS but I would have lost $4000 of that because of being upside down on my current car/trade in. $3500 rebate and $1200 in GM Card savings. I doubt the GM Card will have an additional $1000 off this month. |
Get the same color as the "Cavalier" and you'll never know by looking that you traded..... Resale may not be as great though.

DJ and GH, who else is left with the same couple of arguments??

In addition to the 68-70 style hood, Borla exhaust, and chrome wheels, it has a ducktail. This spoiler covers the existing holes, and may even pick them up as mounting points, but overall the effect does not work for me. To add insult, the raised portion of the hood (peak and scoops) was painted black. The overall effect was more GheTtO than GTO. Anyway, I think the spoiler is manufactured by the same people who did the hood (DJS, or something...). |
