I just got back from a search for what was said to be several GTO's sitting along a highway and unfortunatly I found them 12 to be exact rotting away, They were in a field that was sold and had to be moved to the edge of the road a neighbor told me but still on private property I seen at least 1 judge,3 convertables and several with Ram Air marked on the hood, years were from a 65 to what looked like a 70, not for sale was written on all the windows, at least 5 had texas plates, all of them looked to be very restorable the neighbor said they have been there for years and he knows the owner, I left my number and got a number of the guys brother but probably all for not, I am going to go back and take pics for all to see and maybe get some blood pressures up. http://forums.performanceyears.com/g...icon_frown.gif http://forums.performanceyears.com/g...icon_frown.gif

sounds like old jim browning here in southeast missouri,He has about 20 acres of nothing but 50's 60's and early 70's classic cars in the woods just rotting away.he will not even talk to anyone about selling one,or any of them.i have heard about him shooting at people(kids)for just sneaking in and looking at them.WHy some people are like that I will never know.

It doesnt seem to matter where you go in this great land that you can't find an plentitude of fools who are "going to restore it".

Within a 30 mile radius of my house, I know of at least 4 of these types of fools. If I expand it to about a 100 miles, I can account for about 6 more.

All of them have been hoarding Pontiac cars and parts for years. Some of them are year specific, others run the gamut from early 50's to late '70's models.

There is just something flat out wrong with these people's heads, or they are just flat out worthless.

Does anybody remember that amature "junk" yard on ebay about 8 months or a year ago? It was in VT and listed for a cool million. Anyway I wonder if it ever sold?- it had every kind of muscle car there was in the pic.

The car was on the side of his house, grass growing up to the door locks and flat tires. It needed a complete restoration but it was numbers matching,fairly solid RA III, 4speed car with Parchment Interior. I restored it in the mid-80's and have enjoyed putting over 200,000 (no typo) miles on it with more to come. This reminds me of a long time city police officer we had in Portland Oregon a few years ago. His job was to take all the firearms that the police collected from both those who should not have them, as wel as from a program where you can turn in any gun (in working condition) for a fifty dollar store voucher. This older cop took these guns to a local foundry where they were melted down. After a year or so, they found out he'd not got the singed paper work for an old Colt Draggon? And so he was called in and they talked to him about it. Come to find out, he had his place stocked with fine old firearms and had them secure and protected from rust. All were nice US made gunes that were of historicial value. He admitted that some of them he just could not bring himself to distory, and said the city was a fool for allowing it to happen. He was not charged, but was retired and the guns removed from him and melted. So, like the fine old Pontiac's, sometimes fools have and do thing's simply because they are fools. But that's where they find their own security, which means nothing more than most of them are flat nut's. And we ask why a cop would steal guns he was in charge of distorying? Same reason people pay high prices for fine are when it's stolen from some fool. Because, these thing's do not belong in the hands of fools. Now, let me have the flack !! :0

That "collection" (it was specifically referred to as tha, not a junkyard, in the listing) in Vermont is up for sale again or was just recently...I know they have at least one Can Am there that looks like it could be brought back to life.

I still kick myself for not going to the Ohio auction. I'm still amazed at how many cool Pontiacs were left to rot. I think it was in the 100's.

Occasionally I get that too. I have a few 70's Pontiacs. The difference with me is this. I drive them if they are running. I buy them in different states of decay, and while some are sitting at my dads farm it doesnt mean they will never run again. Usually I get some jerk who wants a derby car. Like I am going to give him a 72 LeMans Sport even if it is rusty. Or a 74 Formula 350, good luck. Now if someone really wants them for a project, that is another story.

I know of a 72 455 HO 4 speed Hardtop GTO, its red and is all numbers matching, original paint but its faded and weathered. BFE Nebraska, this guy wont budge. Offered him $6k for it about 10 years back and I got the same old. Someday I'll restore it. Guess where its been for 20+ years... Also just down the road from my dads, a 69 Bonneville 4 door with a 428. Trans is gone, just needs a rebuild. A bit of rust, and it just rusts away. He has even more stuff lying around than I do, difference is, he doesnt do anything with them. Because I want it is enough reason for him not to sell it.

Unfortunately my dad moved one of my special ones outside, a brother removed the wheels and here it sits untill I can get home with enough leave time to get it running again. Its a 72 GTO with a Lemans front clip. I bought it back in 86 from a Junkyard for $175. It was hit pass front, it was my second car. Brought both my kids home from the hospital in it too. It now belongs to my oldest, she will get it in 6 years, so I need to get crakin on it. Took me 10 years to find a 72 front end for it, but I have it and its rust free!

heres a weird one for ya. I was looking for a gto any gto and along in the auto trader comes a sweet 70 and the price was 3500. Sooo i buy her and about two months later when i went to re - do the seats i start finding all kinds of stuff thats just does not add up like the outer holes for the seats are ripped and the back seat is differernt than the buckets so i got ahold of the cops and they check the car out for zero$ and tell me what i have is a 71 lemans with a 69 400 motor and a 74 tranny and on and on. I did some research and layed the whole story on a lawyer who tells me the car is a fraud and the previous owner did the switch as he had purchased a 70 judge and moved all the parts over from the dooner car. I called him and told him i wanted all my $ back plus all the cash i had sunk into this car . He says I dont have any cash so I tell him that he has to trade his 69 gto convertible judge or go to court. The 69 needed a complete restore so i would be more on the losing end anyway but i did not care as i wanted a gto. Anyway to make a long story short I spent five years driving and fixxing the car and finally sold the car to a guy in edmonton alberta for 8 grand back in 1990 . I fund out that the car was rare only after i sold it but i had a lot of good times and memories

To talk about "obsessed" cars and parts collectors that won't sell anything because they may need it or restore it someday ??? I know this chebby guy here in CANADA that has about 50 Muncies transmission (m20,21,22...ST10s)
and won't sell a single one but will brag about it all day,he also has alot of exotic motors CHEBBY's 454 LS6,aluminium heads...all this guy does is collect parts,work on cars work,work,work...just to make more money so he can buy more parts and dream about it! What a life.

Hah, I just HOPE when I get older I can have a whole backyard of old Pontiacs, that way when I get one project done I can start another....and I wouldn't sell them to anybody. I'd be like my own Willy Wonka Chocolate Factory!!!

That is, if there are any vintage Pontiacs left when I get to be in my 30's/40's....

There's a black '66 or '67 GTO that has been sitting at a farm house near where I live for over 10 years now. Hasn't moved. It is a nice looking car. Also, a guy I work with had a '66 GTO with a 389 and 4-speed. It needed some work but it was in good condition. Bad news is he told me one day at work that he sold it for a $1,000.00. Bummer. Wish I knew he was going to sell it. He said he just wanted to get rid of it.

baah local wrecking yard here been closed for 10 plus years is now crushing over 2000 old classics from the 40s to the early 80's ...guys is sick cant stand people like that ...looked at a car he had under a barn...he tells me open it up and look at the odometer, so I do and i see 16300 on it all origional chrysler imperial I believe...totally origional to the tires ....0 rust and 2 inches of dust...he tells me hey im going to restore it for my wife....I tell him you a jack ass run it through barrett jackson because i know your not going to do anything with it because its been sitting for over 20 years....I despise stupid people.

My wifes grandmother used to live in a apartment building that had an underground garage. In it sat a 66 GTO convert with a Tri Powewr Ram Air set up. After a close inspection of the car at night when nobdy was around, I found the tags to be last registered in 1982. The car had an inch of black soot on it from the garage. After realizing how rare the car was (and not to mention the car was in graet shape execpt for the four flat tires),I tried many times to contact the owner leaving him many messages with an offer to buy the car at what ever his price was. He never returned my calls. This went on for a year. After a few months fro mthe last time i left him a message, the car dissapeared and I never saw it again.

The only thing that I can think of was that the car must have had some sentimental value to it. I would have paid big bucks for this one.

so did the "jetallman" ever get pictures of the gto's that were sitting in the field? Can you tell me if the beauties are still there and where they are? My dad had 67 GTO that he sold in 74/75 to a kid in South St.Louis County, MO and is now looking for the car 32 years later. he doesn't have the VIN number is at a stand still in finding his "first love".

I hate when people do that, grrr. My uncle has a 1972 Trans Am, Buccaneer red, tan interior, shaker hood. Has been sitting in his field since I can remember. My dad said it's been there at least 20 years. It has a snake nest in the engine bay and the headliner is sagging, of course the paint is faded and the grass is grown up underneath. I have continued asking him about it for over 8 years and he says "I'm going to restore it and give it to Bradley" (my cousin/his son that isn't the slight bit interested in anything cars, blah). One of these days I'll catch him in a jam :) Non-pontiac story though, seen an early 60's late 50's Thunderbird, black with black interior sitting in-front of an abandoned building near my house for over a year (since I moved to pensacola). I have never seen anyone near it, has 4 flat tires. Would make a GREAT project car! If I wasn't trying to focus all my money to my 69' I'd try to buy it too lol

I say we should just steal their cars. If they've been sitting there for over 20 years, they've most likely not been registered for a loong time. Just take the damn things. Bastards deserve to get them stolen.

I used to be a carburetor supplier for most [if not all] the carb reman. companies here in So. Cal for years. Over the years I held on to some special carbs and I am now starting to unload them on Ebay. I found this website and I'm posting to ask if you guys need any Pontiac carbs I may be able to help you. To give you an example, I have a few pontiacs in stock, these are units that need to be restored but are complete.
