Does anyone happen to know that RPM range in a stock torque converter from a th-400 ?

76TA428 05-08-2005 10:02 AM

1300-1600 I think.

*67firebird* 05-09-2005 09:42 PM

thats horribly low im thinking of going to a B&M TORK MASTER 2400, will these be good in a 400 engine, 1 3/4 super comp. headers, performer Intake, and holley 750cfm, and a .490" lift lunati?

68lemans462 05-09-2005 10:03 PM

i wouldnt waste my money on a b&m converter. I installed a 2400 stall TCI piece of junk and it didnt feel any different than stock.

*67firebird* 05-09-2005 10:08 PM

really? damn im bidding on one, i was thinking it would be good since im not pumping out so much HP and TORQuE,

*67firebird* 05-09-2005 10:10 PM

so what Stall should i use?

sardegna 05-10-2005 02:44 AM

i have a 23-2500 converter, which is borderline too high for the street. i'll probably go to something around 2000 rpm when i have the tranny rebuilt next month.

grandville455 05-10-2005 05:19 AM

A conv built right will be tight on the street still!I use a 10 " 3200 stall from cont, And I drive on the street and race my car at the track all year! ....it drives like a stock one till you nail it..yes it is looser than a stock one ,but if u have used stall conv before you will know that these are very tight! You get what u pay for buy a cheap one now and down the rd probably be rebuilding your tranny besides looking for a new conv...JMO

*67firebird* 05-10-2005 07:01 AM

ok now im scared about this purchase on a 2400 it seems many people have their own opinion as for the 3200 thats seems incredibly high doesnt anyone agree?

grandville455 05-10-2005 09:05 AM

It All depends what your total combo is and what you want to do with it...if your just streeting it and maybe a race now and then then u dont need a big stall like me...,but i want every possible hundreth i can find thats why i went to this ... The guys that run these cont 10" will all atest to how tight they are http://forums.performanceyears.com/g...icon_smile.gif,before i had a cont 13" stalled about 22-2400...it was awesome also!....

I run a 3800 10 inch converter on the street. Of course I don't get in stop in go traffic. Ive had this loose converter for 4 years with no problems. It's a transking 10p. I wouldn't worry about running a tight 3200 like the continental. I know people running 9inch converters on the street with no problems. I guess it depends on your preference. Sound like the 3200 continental would be a good choice for you. Good luck!

*67firebird* 05-12-2005 09:07 PM

that 13" is a 3200 stall?

*67firebird* 05-12-2005 09:09 PM

bob, i sent u a private message

frbird400 05-12-2005 09:34 PM

I run a tight 8" cont. converter. It is fine on the street from stoplights. Slow acceleration and it doesn't stall too high, romp on it and you get 4K rpms quick.

*67firebird* 05-12-2005 10:15 PM

wellim at a stock level engine and i bought a turbo 400 off someone and recommends a 2500 stall. the trans was rebuilt and has a transgo shift kit and a deep pan. and the best thing about it was that i only payed $81.00. is a 8" compatible with a stock engine?

frbird400 05-13-2005 08:15 AM

I ran a B&M Holeshot 2400 for years w/ a mild 400 buildup. Great street manners. I'm not sure about the B&M Tork-Master, never used one.

*67firebird* 05-13-2005 01:26 PM

do you still know what your build up was?

frbird400 05-13-2005 01:54 PM

.030 over 400, trw flattop pistons, torker II intake, 6X heads (little if any work to the heads), holley 750 DP, lunati hydraulic (can't find the cam in their catalog anymore but it was a single pattern 225 or 235 dur. @ .050, .507 lift), 3 tube headers, 3" exhaust in a 67 firebird, best I could get it was 13.54 ET @ 99.7 MPH w/ 1.88 60 ft time.

*67firebird* 05-13-2005 03:21 PM

you seem to have a good set up and all you got was 13.50's damn i should get ready to spend a lot of money.
