I saw Langer run a 8.93 and Ray run a 9.07 and 9.13.
Man thats sad when a N/A guy outruns a nitrous guy. Can we impeach Ray as the president of the 8 Second Club! |

I dig John's car! http://forums.performanceyears.com/g.../icon_wink.gif
Too bad you sold your's Jack. http://forums.performanceyears.com/g...icon_frown.gif |
Larry, rub it in, rub it in! LOL
|
It's not surprising he's having some teething problems with a brand new engine, I know he just finished it. How much time could he have possibly had to dial it in? I hope I no one's looking when I make my first pass with my new engine, such pressure! I have lots of faith he will best himself in the near future.
|
never mind...what i found said ray's best run was a 9.01, which left him in 17th.
props to langer for outrunning both of the guys who sold out and went to the dark side. i wonder how they feel looking up at john on the qualifying sheet? http://forums.performanceyears.com/g...icon_smile.gif |
Brian. Felton didn' sell out. He was supposed to have an aluminum Pontiac combo & block and was forced to buy a Steve Schmidt engine so he could run for a Championship. BTW, it makes over 1000hp fora lot less moola. http://forums.performanceyears.com/g.../icon_wink.gif
But using all his stuff from the old Pontiac combo wasn't working. His old shortblock is in Ava's car. BTW: Very very nice people. Other's should be as nice. http://forums.performanceyears.com/g.../icon_wink.gif John is flying and should see 8.80's. Ran a 8.91 I think last pass Saturday evening. Guess who. http://forums.performanceyears.com/g.../icon_wink.gif |

Bad news guys. Ray called last night to let everyone know. Broken rod on first full power pass. There were no indicators. Oil pressure was still good & filter is clean. He doesnt think anything else is hurt yet. Rumors in Rays class; A certain someone there may get a teardown tech inspection of a lifetime. http://forums.performanceyears.com/g.../icon_wink.gif
|
He made 2 full power passes?
Both over 154 mph. And 2 or 3 motor passes on Friday? Didn't he just install those NEW GRP rods because he said the BME rods weren't as good and sold them? http://forums.performanceyears.com/g...n_confused.gif http://forums.performanceyears.com/g...icon_frown.gif http://forums.performanceyears.com/g...icon_frown.gif Interesting. http://pysales.com/images/sweat.gif http://forums.performanceyears.com/g...icon_frown.gif http://forums.performanceyears.com/g...icon_frown.gif |
Ray called this morning, he definately hurt the motor. But he is planning to stage the car and take the points. He said that he thinks Gina (first round opponent) is hurt as well. He will be in Columbus "giving them heck"!!!
P.S. Does anyone know the Mean Street ladder? |
Neal Owens still running a Pontiac?
|
He made 2 hp passes on Friday(10.20/130mph). Water pump housing cracked. Saturday was first pass on N2O for only 3.68 sec. It shut down. ANOTHER problem to solve. Engine sounds ok, so he's going to stage for points. BTW, he switched to MGP rods. I wonder how hurt Gina is. Maybe he can make a pass for the next round. http://pysales.com/images/sweat.gif

Amen to that....A lot less http://forums.performanceyears.com/g.../icon_wink.gif |
Sorry to hear about Ray, tell Langer to stop eating so many of those Philly cheesteakes and he'll go faster.LOL
I guess Ray needs a "Dude tune up" to get into the 8's http://pysales.com/images/boxing.gif http://forums.performanceyears.com/g...s/icon_eek.gif |
Ray needs all the help he can get as he has the worst luck of anyone I have ever seen racing.
Congrats to Langer though! And Ava and Felton. Tom V. |
Ray just called & asked me post that Langer just ran an 8.88. He's gone faster with every run & is in the hunt. The fastest guy slowed down to a 8.87. http://forums.performanceyears.com/g.../icon_cool.gif
|
Talking to John on Saturday and what he was working on and changes he was doing. I knew 8.80's was in the mix.
Weather is great this weekend with a tail wind Saturday. |

Congrats to Joey Winick for his win in N/SS in his Tempest. http://forums.performanceyears.com/g...on_biggrin.gif
I'm not sure how to comment on the whole corperate comment, I mean its not like these guys are being paid to run pontiacs, after a while I'm sure you get tired of all the work it takes or you see a clear advantage using a different combo. You do what it takes if you want to win a Championship and be something more than an also ran. http://forums.performanceyears.com/g.../icon_wink.gif I wonder if Felton's car still weighs close to 3500 and still looks stock inside? http://forums.performanceyears.com/g...s/icon_eek.gif Langer, Man you were bookin it this weekend huh? How close are you to the minimum weight? I think I saw you post on PROs board that you were a few pounds over? Thats flying man congrats. Ray, I hope you get it figured out and quick. I wish I could have been there. http://forums.performanceyears.com/g...icon_frown.gif If not sooner, Memphis, I'm there. http://forums.performanceyears.com/g...on_biggrin.gif |
Owens runs BBC and makes more HP then BES!! ( felton ran 148 MPH unless the car is close to 4000lbs it is less than 1000 HP )
|
Hey john you better check the rules on blocks
|
What caused the water pump housing to crack?
|
It's a factory one he made to use with the BOP belt drive. Turned out to be in that little air pocket(housing to block)tube. Thinking watar got in there and froze over winter.
|
Faster. Faster?
I thought Langer was younger than Ray Cox. |
I recall Ray posting last winter about what type of propane furnace to get? Did he not heat the shop area?
|
Too many good blocks have been cracked during those cold winter months.
|
We were building a 70TA, tearing apart a 79TA, & assembling the new engine in the shop while the race car w/old engine was sitting in the trailer. Yes, we did drain the water, but didnt pull the pump. http://forums.performanceyears.com/g...icon_frown.gif From what we heard, the old block will be running soon. http://forums.performanceyears.com/g...icon_smile.gif BTY, Ray called & wants leave his race car at my house to pull the engine out. That would make 3 down Pontiac's at my place, & 3 torn apart Pontiacs at his place. http://pysales.com/images/sweat.gif
|
Kid. The converter was the same one he had with his Pontiac engine and was to tight with the BBC. His 60's were way off.
He said it dyno'd over 1000hp. Then he had someone working on the ladderbars (too much pinion angle) and the last pass I saw Saturday had the back of the car jump sideways when it left. Don't know if it was the car or the trac or what happened Sunday. http://pysales.com/images/sweat.gif |
I think I am 8 years younger then Ray, I'm 32. I am a little disappointed with my results but have to stay positive because I changed a bunch of stuff on the car (almost everything except the location of the passenger seat) over the winter and still ran well. These were my first runs of the year. With a little testing over the next few weeks, I hope to run better. The sound of a Pontiac at 8700 rpm going thru the traps is scary.
|
John,
Those are dang impressive numbers with an NA engine. It takes real talent to make that kind of power with an NA engine. Congrats and keep that dude buzzin. L8r, Aaron |
hey Bruce, wanna go swiming??? just bring your trunks and dive into the GS!!!

1.38 60'. The track was going away and everyone had their stuff on kill.

Do they ever broadcast on TV? All I ever find is top fuel. If so anyone know the date or who will be showing it?
Thanks |

Hey John. At least your in the hunt.
That qualifying ladder almost looked like a NHRA Pro Stock Pro Stock class. Tight ET's. http://forums.performanceyears.com/g...s/icon_eek.gif |
I'm going to try to test a few times in the next 2 weeks before the Columbus race. The top 7 qualifiers all had 60's under 1.30 with the exception of me. My best was a 1.332 and on my .88 pass was a 1.357. I'll get it figured out. Not bad for the first time out. I have alot of work to do before Columbus in 3 weeks.

John clearly had a desent outting, now if he can just get it all to the ground ! Oh, Pinion angles? Try SHOCK settings. New combo of tires and gear changed how the car launched. So what is wrong with trying a few shock settings to help make the launch better? The ladder bars were not even touched because there is no reason to mess with them.
