Heres mine, 1962 conv. I have had this car for 15 years now and drive it almost daily. I live about 30 miles south east of Tom S. and I have had the good luck to have seen most of Toms toys.

R70Judge, I have three engines for the car. With the 474 its run as fast as 9:72 @ 138.00 on motor.I currently have a 462 in it that was built for N2o and its run 10:13 @ 134.00 on motor. ( what a pig ) I didnt shoot it yet. Im also in the process of building an IA-2 that will go in next season. Im currntly deciding on which way to go with this motor as far as combination. Ill need to buy better cylinder heads for it also as my Edelbrocks wont fit the bill. This car is a complete street legal car not a stripped out shell type race car.
Apache Warrior, Id like to share some info on your engine install. Youd be better off mounting the front of the engine with a full one piece motor plate accross the front of the engine either behind the timing cover or water pump. And the use of a mid plate between the engine and trans. Your looking for trouble mounting to the cylinder heads. You dont want to be putting undo stress on the head bolts. Your head gaskets will fail. Dont use solid motor mounts or it will crack and fail the #2 main. Please veiw this as constructive criticism Im trying to help. Scott. |

Spartzoo, I built the tube chassis that my car is sitting on along with a few others in the past few years. I can explain why not to use solid mounts and give you some alternatives if youd like. You wont except email so think about it and contact me if you like [email protected].

Thanks Tempestfugit, As you can imagine Im very prowd of it just like most of you guys are about your cars. I like the 63s but decided to do the 61 two door because of its limited production numbers. It started out as a Pro-Street car but that came and went so I took it to the track. I have another 61 sitting here that was going to be built into a race car but it got put on the back burner with the purchase of an all original 64 Tempest Custom two door. I figured it would be a lot more cost effective to do the 64 being its a full frame car already. I wouldnt have to build a frame for it. This car is currently going through a frame off restoration. I just scrapped a 62 wagon this spring it was sitting here outside going to pot. It would have taken to much to bring it back. If anyone needs anything for there 61-62 projects let me know I maybe able to help you out. Ive accumulated quite a few parts for these cars. Thanks Again Scott.

Thanks for the words. Yea I went .019 red and the guy I raced had a .134. I ran in the street class because I run dot tires and full exhaust so it fits that class. The car weighs 3434 with me in it. The motor is 456ci, edelbrocks,victor,850 speed demon,260's solid roller, pretty ordinary stuff. I run a turbo 400, 9" ford w/4:10's. The car has run a best of 10.30 @ 131.

Progress has been extremely slow on mine. But this was thread was a great reason to push it out of the garage and take some pics. Now I gotta get off my A$$ and get to work.

1962Tempest ,Very nicely done I love it. But then Im partial to the 61-62s LOL. Would you care to share how you hung the rear end in the car? What shocks etc? It looks like you have it leaving real nice. I just dont see why the racers would want a Trans AM. THESE CARS ARE WAY COOL. Scott

tiacguy: I have a Art Morrison ladder bar set up in my car. I think they are 36" long. The shocks I got from Morrison also I think are called Alden or something like that, they are single adj. coilovers. I used a pan hard bar for location. I minnie tubbed it using the stock inner wheel well, I moved them in about 6", fabbed some new rear frame rails and tied it all together. It has a 8 point cage from Morrison also, which fits real nice. The 36" ladder bars made it possible for me to keep the rear seat because I didn't have to cut up the floor in the seat area. Any more ? just ask.

1962Tempest, I also run a ladder bar set up. Im currently running a 36" Chassis Engineering double adjustable ladder bar and Alden single adjustable shocks with 150lb springs. Im currently playing with everything trying to get the car to hook harder. I just bought double adjustable rear shocks so I can fine tune things better. Im running a full tube chassis so I have coil overs on the front also. I weighed the car on four electronic scales and have the springs correct but I need to fine tune the bars now. Im also running the Ford 9" with 4:10s and 14x32 Hoosiers. My I ask were the front of your bar is in relation to your frame rail in height,pinion angle,spring rate,shock dampening? At this point my car wont run 60s to save its life!! I was running 136-137 60s until my recent motor change. Now Im making a lot more torque down low and cant hook it up. Thanks Scott.

My ladder bar is pretty close to level to the ground, in the middle hole on the cross member. It puts my lower bar about 1" below the frame rail. The shocks are set in the middle setting, and if my memory is correct I have 200 lb springs. My 60 fts are in the 1.46 range, think they could be better. I'm going to try a true slick over the dot's 29-12-15 (Hoosier) to see if it helps. I'm hoping to run n/ss in martin,mi with the nsca next week end. By the way I exchanged email with you a couple years ago on the little indians sight when I was first starting on the car. Would you happen to have a nice 62 hood? Thanks:Rick |
Rick, Im sorry, But I meet a lot of people on the net and I dont remember you. I hope I was nice to you! I know I have a 62 hood but if my memory serves me I think its about a 6 on a 1 to 10. I believe the hood top isnt too bad but I seem to remember the cross piece that the hinges bolt to is rusted a bit were the bolts are. I know its in my storage trailer somewhere. What are your plans for it? If your only looking for something to mold for a fiberglass one this is probably the one. If your looking for a bolt on and go NOT! At any rate if you think you can use it let me know I can pull it out and take whatever pics you want and send them to you via email. Were are you located? Shipping would probably kill you. tiacguy: I need another hood because when I ran n/ss with nsca last year when they ran at midmichigan they gave me some grief about my hood scoop. So i was goning to get another hood and put a sd style scoop on(taller fiberglass). I live north of Detroit,Mi.
