Doug's Headers - Where to buy?
 

I have just about decided to go with Doug's Headers for my TA.

Where is the best place to purchase them? Should I buy them already coated, or should I have them coated by someone else?

Get the coated headers from Doug. You won't regret it. Get the headers from Jeg's or Summit. They have the best prices that I've seen.

I didn't realize that summit or Jegs carried them. I guess I should have checked. I thought they were more of a specialty item/brand.

I looked at PY, but the online catalog didn't indicate that there headers were Dougs. I will check again.

Vtxman .... Pacific performance has the headers you need for a few bucks less than Jegs/Summit. I don't know the shipping deal at Pacific Performance but Jegs is free so you'll have to see for yourself how it shakes out....

They're the best!!...Now if you could only help me with my rag joint problem. How can I get a hold of an "original" style power steering rag joint that doesn't have the looooong casing pins that are ramming up against the front header tube in my 67' with E-heads????

Have you looked on some of the Chebby web sites?? Should be the same rag joint.

Try Lee Manufacturing. They might have them or know who does.

I bought mine uncoated from Classic Industries. The standard paint/coating has been good for 2 years. I am going to take them over to HPC this winter and have them coated.

Isnt the advantage of buying new headers already coated,that they are done inside and out?
Most headers rot from the inside.

Some guys want to make sure the headers fit before spending the money to have them coated. Some guys want to add additional options to their headers such header evac tubes, O2 sensors, EGT sensors,etc.

Got mine coated from Butler.

summit carries them, but they aren't in the catalogue. they are however on their website. they also have a policy about beating the lowest price available, you just have to call them and be able to prove the price you want them to beat i.e. another website etc. i had them look up another website while i was on the phone with them. give them a call. 800.230.3030.

Do Doug's Headers sometimes not fit?

I have heard of a few cases....but early on I do know that some people did not want to take the chance of them not fitting so they purchased them uncoated and trial fitted them before they had them coated.

Unfortunately Doug's stopped offering the standard coat a year or two ago. You now have only the raw or ceramic coated options.

When I bought mine I had 15% off with Classic and that was for uncoated headers only. I payed around 400 for them. Couldn't pass that up.
I have since added O2 sensors and evacs.

Are you using the O2 sensors to determine your fuel mixture? Are you using them on both headers? Do you have a gauge in your dash that gives you the info?

What is the difference in the standard coat and the ceramic coat? Is the ceramic coat a good coating to have? Is there a better coating?

I am on my second set of doug's headers. First set was uncoated. My second set was only available coated. I like them and will buy again. Only problem is oil stains. Any way to get stains out? I tryed brake clean, simple green and so on.

I used mag wheel cleaner spray. The formula for rough cast wheels. Works pretty well, spray on-wipe off.

I have an Edelbrock Air/Fuel ratio monitor. It comes as a kit. Only 1 header has the bung and O2 sensor.
I bought this for cheap from a guy who never use it. If i was to buy a new one it would be a better one with dual sensors.

I've seen "Doug's Headers", "Doug Thorley" and "Headers by Doug". I've heard that the original "skinny"? I have a set I purchased from Milt Schornack several years ago and hee claims to have had them for many years. I trial-fitted them on my '69 LeMans and was very impressed as they were a close fit but touched nothing and required zero tweaking, prying or denting. I had Hooker Super Comps on our '64 race car and had to grind some of the A-frames for clearance. The tech guy at Hooker called that "typical" for older cars! Just FYI.Ron

Like I said, the standard coating is something Doug's no longer offers, but I managed to find the webpage Pypes created to explain the difference between the standard and Ceramic coated options.

Thanks DM, just found the same pic at Summit. I'm wondering about the ease of accessability to the number 4 bolt on the pass side. Curently have a set of hooker super comps & they are a b****.

It can't be as hard as Super Comps, it just can't . . .
