68 Firebird 400 Conv.- Paint Color (survey)
 

1968 Firebird 400/4spd project...

Originally painted Alpine Blue, White Conv. Top, Black Interior

This is a father-son project... I'm the originality nut. He prefer's red.
It's a relatively rust-free, documented 4004spd Calif. car. Not going to do the numbers matching thing. Something nice/fun to drive w/o worrying about the intake manifold getting discolored (installing a '68 400 HO engine).

Just curious what others think. What is your favorite color on a '68 Firebird?
Which color would you paint this car?

1) Alpine Blue
2) Red
3) Black
4) Meridian Turq.
5) Other

I did not hesitate to paint my 26,000 original 67 Firebird convertible bright red since the original color was Mayfair Maize. However, Alpine Blue is a good color and if mine had been a decent color I would have kept it.

Hard to beat that Meridian Turquoise, although Alpine Blue would be nice too :)

My 62,000 mile 400 bird is Mayfair Maize. I kind of like it and a repaint is all that has ever been done.........I actually like most any factory color that is in good shape. I do like all the colors listed, but black is especially nice if it is done well.

Mine too was Mayfair Maze...and I changed to red...white top and deluxe pearl interior.

youre sure going to get peoples attention by not including that drab army green they used.
1st choice turquiose
2nd choice red
3rd choice black
just happen to have those so I might be partial

Once you go Black. There's no turning back! :)

I like Solar Red with the white top, parchment interior. It's original to my car. I don't think you can go wrong with the red or blue.

Here's my vote..."drab Army Green". :D

Verdoro Green...
I believe the story behind this color was John DeLorean's wife saw it on an ashtray at a party... the rest is history.:)

For awhile I owned an original paint '68 400 coupe that was Primavera Beige with a gold vinyl roof (yes, they were available) and a gold interior. I know it may sound strange, but it was a beautiful combo.

Autumn bronze (or whatever they called the burnt orange color) is another favorite. In fact, there were a ton of great colors in '68.

Autumn Bronze was a Corvette color that could be special ordered in later half of 68.Very nice color.

My car was blue with blue interior.
I think the green with the black interior looks better.

VERDORO GREEN! with Parchment interior!

Mine is "red" , but it was already painted that color when I got it, I just redid some/most of it....
car was originally "midnight green".....

when I looked for a Firebird , I was looking for a 68 convertible , verdoro green , could not find what I wanted , ended up "settling" for a red 69 vert.

Alutian Blue, Teal top and interior. I realy nice color combo. MAy have mizzspilled sum wodrs !! :)

Originally April Gold. Never seen it in person, but from pictures of that color, I'm glad someone painted it.

Every one I had that was green was repainted previously or by me to a different color .
That includes April gold which isnt gold by the way.

My car was originally Verdero green. There is many better colors IMO.

I guess I'm just boring or maybe it's because my 67 is this color. Cameo Ivory with black top and interior. If I could hand pick one today, probably Meridian Turquoise/White/White, Flambeau Burgandy/White/White, Mayfair Maize/Black/Black

Tyrol blue w/ brt blu interior & Verdero grn w/blk intr.
Like the Verdero cause only Pontiac's used it...except maybe mopar?

I'd stick with the original color/interior combo myself. The Aleutian Blue mention above would be tempting though. The one Aleutian Blue 68 coupe with red line tires I have seen was a great looking car.

That's funny, my car was blue with blue interior, and I went to green/blk int.

The first picture is my car in 1980 in Alpine Blue and Cameo Ivory painted top from the factory. Back then I was young and wanted it red. My tastes changed throughout my years and was close to painting it back to Alpine blue with cameo Ivory top as its sort of rare with two tone paint and was sick of red. Well I really like and get so many compliments on the blue on my convertible that I figured Id try cameo Ivory with the Intense Blue (Dodge truck blue in 1999) I cant tell you how it pops but I cant drive for 5 minutes without someone commenting on the color/car. The wheels will be going back to stock also. My first body and paint job is the Blue and white. You can check out the history of my car from 1980 to present and as far as Im concerned, it looks better than it ever has. 532,000 miles later. The link has 4 pages. With all the choices of paint out now, I really cant see painting it a olor you dont like.

Ohhhhh man, are those side pipe I'm seeing??? That sure brings back memories when at one time you just were not very col if any car you had didn't have side pipes. I ran Mopars for years as a kid with them. Later traded mt last one for a 71 Chebby SS drop top factory 454 4 speed, in cold color. And yup I installed the side pipes on it too. What I should have done was forget the pipes and park the car for forty years. My only really rear car I've ever owned. By the way, I've seen the 99 Dodge blue on a fwe cars but yours looks beter than most. Great choice. My 68 drop top 400 Bird is blue on blue with a blue top. Boring !!

My cousin still has scars on his legs from my side pipes on my 68 circa 1970.
I was so glad to finally get rid of them and go back to a full exhaust.

Not to highjack the thread but these pipes are old Thrush Pipes except for the turnouts at the back . I lost one accellerating onto the freeway and by the time I got back to pck it up, it was flattened. I drove home before noticing anything and when I got out I noticed it missing so on my way back to work I found what I thought was the turn out. It was actually a Semi exhaust tip from the stack. So when I found mine squished, I came up with an idea. I called Peterbuilt and sure enough they had the diameter i needed so I replaced both sides so I guess they are now Thrush Peterbuilts. Now thats a tough exhaust!! Anyway, the color really does pop and thats why so many 1 st places at shows. Dodge firebird. LOL. This picture is without the HO stripe. My 1st car(68FB) was Verdero grn w/blk interior.
My 2nd car(67FB) was/is Tyrol blu w/brt blu int.

The 68FB a bought last yr is blk on blk, but was originally Verdero grn.
Thinking of changing back to the V-grn.

Dude, I love the green. I get alot of crap for it but I love it.

for some reason i like the color of mr pushrods firebird. if i were to get another first gen i would have to do it that green

Plus i'd have to do all the jambs.
I always get myself into these things..i hate sanding...but i love that color... with some silver flakes.
