I posted over there to encourage everyone in that group to make the swap over to here. The Yahoo group interface is frustratingly antiquated.

I'm here. This board is very interesting and useful. Lots of knowledge and probably a lot more people.

This board is pretty awesome. Tons of sections, lots of great people. The Lobby can get hairy from time to time, but for tech questions and answers, this is the place. Great classifieds, too.

Post a pic of your GP now that you are here. If they are hosted online, you can insert them right into a thread. Just go to the photo where it is hosted, right click, then select "properties" then copy the address that appears. Back in the thread you want to put it in, select that little icon above the text box that looks like a thumbnail pic of mountains and a sun (2nd in from the right, bottom row if icons) and then paste the address there. Voila, your pic will be in the thread. Can do multiples, as well.

Hopefully, we can get the '73-'77 GP activity here cranked up!

I'm here daily, always ready to talk 73-77 GPs, and 71-76 Pontiac big cars. Here is a pic of my 76 GP, and my 74 Grand Ville. I always look forward to seeing new guys come to the forums.

Uhh, Dave, your GP is sick...much nicer than mine, although I went for a different look and am now ready to revive and update it a bit.

Anyway, how best do we get the discussion going? I suppose I could bore you all with updates on my progress as I get my car back in shape...would like to start that soon, though it'll be cold and dark out in that old barn. Car needs a lot of work after years of harsh living in the elements.

Heck, I'll go first...
I am planning to pull the heads on my GP, and replace them with something in a pre-70 head, to get into a 9-9 1/2 range. I am going to change the cam, add an Performer intake (for weight savings as much as anything), possibly headers. I want to upgrade to 3.08-3.23 rear gears, so the details will depend on what gears I decide on.
As for the look of our cars, I like the sinister look of yours, mine is a 56K original paint car. Anybody got a set of 15x7 and 15x8 Aluminum Slots? I really want to do a period look with 70s front and 60s rear.

You considered going with some RA manifolds instead of headers, Dave? I actually once ponied up over $100 for some used headers for my car, then threw them out. Headers tend to rust, dent easily, are a bit*h to fit, and leak. I have heard that for a street car, a RA manifold will do just as well to free up the flow.

I'd also consider upgrading to a set of taller gears for my car, but I always found that with the torque of the 455, even my highway gears got the car going, and it actually cruises pretty well on the highway. Heck, I spent a year commuting back and forth with this car from western Mass. to Providence for grad school and it was a comfy ride. Was funny to park it next to all the richy-rich kids' Benzes and Bimmers in the Brown student parking lot lol.

You have AC in yours, I assume? I pulled out the entire ventilation system for space savings and because I'll never drive the car year round again. Makes working on the passenger side much easier! lol. Just have to fab up some kind of a cover plate for the hole in the firewall.

How's that for babbling? Maybe others will join in!

Okay I'll get in on this too, I'll be installing new carpet (floors and door panels), pulling and fixing the AM-FM radio, putting in a shift kit in the tranny, and getting the windshield wipers fixed on my '71 GP this winter. It won't cost me a whole lot either if my Christmas presents match the list I submitted. I'm on the Yahoo list as well but I don't care for that site as much.

The Yahoo site is horrible, but I guess people on there must like it, since only one guy has made the swap over so far. :confused:

Hey guys, if you want to come and get my 77 GP leftovers, just pick it all up and go with it. Located in 18602, the stuff is in the way. Can't just throw it out and it usuallly doesn't sell on EBAY. Have a nearly new gas tank, header panel, wiring, little bits and pieces, some opera windows, plastic under deck lid filler, rubber rear bumper filler, and a few other things I just can't remember.

Trade it all for a box of Krispy Kremes or better.....And a bag of Starbuck's...

dave, i've got a set of slots that would make your front pair if they're the style your after. 15x7's. i'll try and get a pic today and post it.

re the tailights and trim you asked about a week or to ago.. i've got a couple sets of the 75 stuff but you'd have to look at it to see if it's what you want. i'm still hunting the lenses for one set.

do you have heads? if not drop me a line with what casting you want. i may have a set of them also.

I am also a member of both boards. Haven't been active for a while. Pontiac Daver-I found my spare lighter so at this time I wont be needing any parts. But if I wanted to fix the broken one, it is just the element portion of the lighter itself. Yea, I would haev went to the show in Indy. I am going to clean mine back up tomorrow and garage it for the rest of the winter. Got the wifes car finished now and just purchased an 03 Monte Carlo SS Jeff Gordon edition. I never thought I would have bought anything about him but I loved the car and got a great deal. trying to post a pic also.

Most of the time I can get answers to my questions... It's a much smaller group then you find on this site.

If you have trouble getting answers in here, it is not because it is a clique. It is because there are not very many GP guys on here.

If you can, try to post your question in one of the tech forums towards the top of the board. More people are in those boards since they apply to many makes and models. For example, any body-related questions could be asked in the Body section of the forum, rather than in here.

I am so new to this that I don't even know how to start a new thread.... so I did a reply to this one. I have a LONG Pontiac history and many stories but I have never owned one... until now. I saw a 1972 at an estate auction in Ohio and I won it! The problem? I live in Billings Montana.. 1,600 miles away. To add to the challange I had to get the car within 4 days of the conclusion of the auction. ROAD TRIP (and it was ruring the time of all the bad weather 2 weeks ago in MN/ID,IL/OH). I'll fill in more later but for now I have a question...

The body is super straight, frame i solid, floor pans are great, trunk pan has 2 coffee cups size holes. EXCEPT the metal under the vinyl roof is pretty bad. I'm going to start stripping it tomorrow but I already know I'ts badly needing a "rear deck filler panel". It's the area between the rear glass and the truck lid. I found dozens for the 1969/1970 GP but none for the 1971/1972. The two share most of the same parts but not this piece because Pontiac redesigned the rear glass in 1971.

Does any know of a place to buy filler panel I need?

Welcome to PY, used to be a member of the GP Yahoo group.
On the rear window filler panel/"catwalk" /"tulip" panel, I've not checked what Ames offers from Taiwaan. Do know the '69-72 GP used the same back window as a 2 door Malibu/Chevelle. The Chevelle rear filler panel also differs from '68-72 Pontiac 2 door A-body filler panel. Will examine a reproduction Chevelle filler panel I have next to that area in a '71 GrandPrix partscar. Also have several solid LeMans/GTO catwalks which are cutout, so easy to compare. Backed up w work today, but should be able to get to tomorrow.

Thank you for contacting us. The 1971/72 Grand Prix and the 1970-72 Cutlass SUPREME share the same rear window geometry. The deck filler panel may be the same between the 2, but we do not know this for certain. The Supreme deck filler panel is available in reproduction from both Golden Star and Sherman (likely the same parts made for Sherman by Golden Star). Good luck with your restoration

I was looking around and looked at the filler panel for a Cutlass as well. I believe the problem with a direct fit replacement is that the 71/72 GP does not transition to a flat deck lid. In looking at the other possible options, i.e. 69/70 GP, Lemans, Cutlass and Chevelle, the deck lids are flat. If the Cutlass reproduction panel has the correct dimensions, it may be possible for a good body man to recreate the raised area in the center (it isn't that tall on the filler panel), so it transitions to the deck lid correctly. It isn't much, but I noticed it on my car when I was trying to compare the photo of the Cutlass filler panel with my car. I've tried to attach a photo that shows it. It sort of looks like a shadow in the pic, but it is raised in the center

I suppose I should have also suggested that if another panel fits dimensionally, you may not find the raised center a big deal. It may not be something that gets noticed. More importantly, the rust is gone.
