who builds the best pontiac?
 

Out of curiousity, who builds the best Pontiac? I've heard BF builds the worst...lol. I'm talking about customer service, friendiness, honesty, as well as quality of work done. It seems that machine shops in my area are very sneaky, dishonest, and won't give up answers freely.

Also, how do KRE and Butler compare with everyone else?

Any "true stories" of from dealing with these 2 mentioned above, or for that matter, any other good/bad Pontiac machinist/engine builder?

A lot of the guys ibn my club have Butler stroker engines and they are all very happy with the way they run. I do NOT have 1st hand experience with any...yet

Jim Butler built my motor back in 1994. Still runs great. No problems at all.

KRE - Great engine. Excellent service and always helped me when I had question. Jeff Kauffman is who I dealt with.

I have only experience with KRE. Great powerful engine.
Spott's perf. is a good builder also, But I have only bought parts from him, not a whole engine.

There are actually a bunch of good guy's.
From what I have read that "Rock in roll" guy is shady....

I just picked up a complete new engine from Kauffman Racing and had them do the dyno. They were very helpful, answered all of my questions during the build and continue to support after the purchase.

I have also purchased engine parts from them over the past few years and had great results. Some of our club members have purchased High Ports and D Ports from them and are happy with their results too.

If i was going to build a motor right now (will soon), the Hillard's on this board would get my business.
They're ridiculously friendly/nice and some of the most honest people i've met lately. They happen to be in Ohio as well - which helps tremendously.

I am just curious, I found a site called www.hiperformer.com which the company is called S and S Engine Rebuild or something like that. I like that they offer a 7 year/100,000 mile warranty but they kind of seem like the wal mart of engine builders. Has anyone used them? Do they do a quality job?

Also anyone know of good ones close to Kansas?

who is reasonable prised? just something mild so i dont spend out a lot on gas and have to tune it all the time. I want to run low 12s and beat any mustang or honda and I dont want to spend more than about 2thousand

If thats all your looking to do,you can build that motor yourself in your sleep.

BVR, a lot will depend on what you have to start with. If you go out and buy a 455 block, a set of #13 heads, etc. etc. you won't be able to buy the parts for 2 grand. To bore, hone, zero-deck, mill heads, valve job, balance, etc., etc, (again, could depend on condition of parts you're starting with) expect to spend anywhere from $800 to $1500 in machine work.

Jack Gaydosh built my last motor,went about 300 runs never even a hiccup.Great guy ,honest and priced right.If you have a problem he is on it right away.

I'm looking for an engine for my sons firebird and I was thinking about checking him out since he is local, but now I don't think so. Who is a good builder in the so cal area?

Yea, but I heard that his last engine crunched itself and the builder took forever to fix it back up.


And on the actual subject: socalpont -- Andy is located down in Ontario not many miles from you, and Ken "Ace" Brewer is down in San Pedro which still isn't that far away. Give them both a call and see what you think.

Thats a fact. I have reciepts for $1400 in machine work on my 400......that did include new valves though.

OK I'll go as high as 3000. but it has to have a garantee it will get my bonneville station wagon into the 10s and i want a rumpity idle

aka "Chief of the Pontiacs" is the Pontiac communitie's best kept secret. As I said before....I've watches their engines trailer the best...including many already mentioned here. And...they can do it with Pontiac parts...not BBC and stroker bs. Not that all the stroker stuff is bad...just not necessary to go fast. Dave has worked wonders with E-heads, Kaufmann heads and is presenty toying with a set of Wenzlers. They built our "stock" RA IV and the new owner called Jim to find out what they did, as he had "never had any musclecar that ran like that." As Clay stated...you cannnot find better people. Trust me...you'll hear more from Hillard Performance and I'll take any bet that it will all be good. The stock stroke, iron headed, stock suspension '67 in Dave's sig is the "1050 Goat" he speaks of and won Norwalk having not been apart for something like seven or eight years! Not many aluminum-headed strokers can lay that claim to fame...I don't care WHO built them!~ Ron

If you were in SE US I'd recommend Ken's Speedshop in Brookesville, FL (Pontiac Dude). He did me right and I haven't heard anything bad about Ken yet, other than he stays real busy. It took him a year to get mine back but I wasn't ain a big hurry.
