Trying to find my dad's old 69 GTO
Hey everybody,
Im trying to find out whatever happened to my dad's old '69 GTO. Heres the story on it. My dad owned this car for over 10 years and he sold it back in 1992 when I was born for $4000 to a gentleman in North Vancouver BC. When my dad sold the car, it was Light Metallic Blue (a Corvette colour). It also had the original 400 4-spd with a Ram Air 3. It also had dark blue interior. It came original with a white vinyl top. It was removed but the chrome trim was still on it when my dad sold it. So back to the guy who bought it. He painted it Carosel Red and made it a Judge clone but he left the dark blue interior. My dad could of bought it back for $10,000 but couldnt come up with the funds. That was the last time he saw his old GTO. We havent heard anything about it since. Its apperentley been spotted in 2003-2004 still in North Vancouver but Im sure if this is true. I would like to know if my dad's old car is still on the road or if its sitting in somebody's yard rotting away. If anybody has seen my dad's old 69 GTO or if you own it, PLEASE email at [email protected]. Heres the site I made for it along with a pic of it. http://the-search-for-the-gto.piczo.com/ |
if you have the vin number track it down by that
|
I dont have the vin #...thats the main problem
|
Call the insurance company your Dad had the car insured with. They may have the VIN on file.
|
If you can find a picture with the plates on the car. Then from the old plate # you can get the vin#..Via ICBC
|
just checking to see if you had any luck locating the car, like kjjd said if you had a pic of post it to see if any one has seen or knows its where abouts

This maybe a long shot but I talked to one of the guys at the local post office while mailing out a set of JL code Rally II's to the US and he immediately knew what I was talking about. He said he had a couple of GTO's while living in N. Van a while back and one was a 69 RAIII but had sold both while still living there. I've made note of your email and next time I see the post office guy I'll ask again. I am in Duncan over on Vancouver Island.

Holy Crap, sorry this if off topic but couldn't resist, I also reside outside Duncan, in Cobble Hill. This is kinda funny, hearing about people close to my home and site is based so far away. U guys been to any of the local car show??

Yep, I've been to the A&W one once. The Bow Mel Mopar show once. I've been to the one at Chesterfield Track a few times. Hey, have you heard of Custom Car Colours auto body and resto out in Shawnigan Lake? I'm thinking about taking my Charger there to get done. Oh, I have some pictures of the GTO. Give me a few mins to upload them. |
I have heard of them, but haven't seen any of their work, they do have a website http://www.customcarcolors.ca/ . My car is unfinished as in my avatar, but did go in 2 show's last year, a unfinished show at the fair ground, and I was at the Beverly corners. Probably gonna go in Mill Bay in May 18th ( I believe that is date) It will be a driver again this year, for summer anyhow.

Sorry have not been on PY much lately more over on the First Gen Firebird site but thought I would check the thread to update remembering that I have not been able to see the gentleman at the post office again. I'm sure that must have been you're dad given the story. I might have got the Vancouver area wrong but that certainly fits. I drive a 67 Firebird here and have shown at Chesterfield track, Mill Bay, Lake Cowichan, Parksville and Torquemasters in Sydney as well as PPPC in Surrey over the years. Just getting ready to get back out on the road now the weather is improving. If both of you are going to the Mill Bay show this year PM me and we can make plans. I usually cruise with a buddy who has a 69 FB so we may show up together and make it a Pontiac show.

Do you remember what the post office guy looked like??

I found another picture last night.
A few years after my dad sold it, he was looking through the Buy and Sell and saw an ad for a 1969 GTO. He phoned, the guy said it had blue interior so my dad went and checked it out. He sat in it and at that moment, he knew it was his old car. This was around 1994-1995. My dad didnt have enough money to buy it back. He sold it to the guy for $4000 in 1992 and the guy wanted $10,000 for it. My dad did take a picture of the car. This is the last known picture of the car that I have. http://i206.photobucket.com/albums/b...afterpaint.jpg |

LOL Sorry I couldn't find your Dad's car but at least I found your Dad!
|
If this car was originally Liberty Blue then there is a similar car North of Seattle (Actually, closer to Vancouver) in Washington State. If it is the same car, I know the owner (bought a 72 TA from him last year). I know he had an orignally liberty Blue 4 speed 69 GTO. It was painted Liberty blue when I saw it, not carousel red. This is just a shot in the dark, it may not be the same car, but since it is in the same area it could be. PM me if you think the car matches and I will contact the owner for details. Did the car have any odd options that would help identify it? Do you know who the original selling dealer is?

Just thought I'd bump this...
I recieved this email today that ties everything together... "Hey there, I think I am the guy who bought your dads gto but unfortunately I don't know where it went. I bought a blue 69 gto as you described from a guy in Richmond. I painted it carousel red and judge cloned the outside but didn't have the money to do the interior. And it had ram air 4 decals on the hood and a hood tach. I sold it to a young guy in north Vancouver about 14 years ago. He had it another couple of years (maybe 3) and then sold it again. I do remember he was in a gto club and he commuted in the car from north Vancouver to squamish, Which might be a lead. Sorry don't have his full name. I think his first name was Chris. Good luck Patrick " |
Patrick sent me a picture from when he had it...
