69 Firebird Race Car
Now i know this really isnt a RACE question, but a restored show car and a race car are kinda two different things to me as far as paint.
I am just about to paint my bird, its a race car, 10" tire, stock style suspension, full interior, full roll cage, should go low 10's maybe high 9's this year. Now Im thinking of painting it RED with a flat black tail light panel. I was also thinking a blue, but Im stuck. Im looking for pictures of 69 Firebird race cars but cant find many. If you can help at all or have suggestions that would be great. thanks. |
Try www.ebay.com type in pontiac firebird, should yield a few results...FWIW

IMHO there are already more than enough red firebirds out there to go around, find something more original unless you just want the car to blend into a sea of other red F-bodies.
You'll also likely get a lot of folks calling it a camaro if you paint it red. Blue is a little better, but there are still quite a few of those as well. My longterm '67 bird project was originally a silverglaze car,so I'm considering that color for that car, that or possibly a striking lime green metallic, both colors work well with contrasting colors and graphics either light or dark. I'm also partial to vivid yellows as well. There are tons of choices for color out there. I like either very sedate colors (white or such) or very vivid colors (a couple are mentioned above) myself,so I try to find something that sets the car apart from others, something different than most would choose. JMO/FWIW. |
Red SUCKS !!! Everybody paints their stuff red. Paint it white. White race cars look clean. Or pick another color that looks nice that not everyone and their brother has.

Black birds are the best...:D

Have you considered Palladium Silver. A guy in my area has a 69 Bird racecar that color and it looks great. Looks even better with a black vinyl top.

Make it a langer replicar.

I considered a Trans Am Replica, Silver i am partial too its the color of my truck. I like the dark blue colors in 69.
My dads got a lucerne blue 70 but I dont know how it would look on a 69. Thanks for the help so far guys keep em coming. |
So I just saw a couple Crystal Blue Turqouise cars, and I like those. BUT every paint chip I see is different.
I think im gunna mix it and spray it on the decklid and see if I like it. |

That green is badass!! If I didnt like red so much,I`d paint my `70 that color. Really sticks out. Mark. |
Try '76 Anniversary Gold like I did my first 69 Firebird. Wat too many red cars out there. Now if you don't want a ticket at night, Verdero Green works very well.;)

How about some Manley Pink. It was supposed to be a dark brandywine.... But it turned out sweet....

Gorgeous Roadrage!
That is very tasteful! I would sait is the nicest green I've seen. I spy Detroit Speed uppers...I love how my 68 and 69 handle with their speed kits...very tastefull in deed!

Ok well I've decided its gunna be Crystal Blue Turqouise or Windward blue, the problem is I cannot find very good samples of either, everything I see differs so much from one to the other.
Im gunna get the original paint code and spray it and see what it looks like. |
Both are GREAT colors, I would hate to see another "Write me a Ticket Red". JMO -Jim

I vote for 69 Windward blue, but the crystal blue is nice too. Red? Just say no!
