Racing at Lebanon Valley
I'm going up to the Valley on Sat 10/20 to test. I haven't been up there since the original Indian Adventures had its Pontiac race series held there. Maybe 8 to 10 years ago. It calls for a test and tune and a high stake gamblers race.
For those who regularly go to the Valley, will it be crowded there that day? Any other things I need to know and be aware of. Thanks |
if it's a nice day, get there early! it will be crowded
I think that sunday is the final points event that weekend will be a better choice then the 13/14 ,King of the Hill and Pinks |

I'll be going to Test and Tune also on Oct.20th. I plan on getting there at 7:30. I want to get a good pit, besides it takes awhile for me to get my car of my trailer. I want to take full advantage of the 10:00am time trials. I'm trying to get ready for ACTO, NJ Nov. 10th.

I saw your car parked in the pits at Nostalgia Day this past Sunday but I didn't see anyone around your car. I would have introduced myself. I didn't get a chance to stop back as I was there for only a couple of hours just to check out the swap meet. |
TTAJAY - Jason, Yah I was super busy that day being it was the first day for my and my friend Mike (65 GTO 505) with our new cars at the track. We both plan on going Oct. 20th (weather permitting). If you decide to go - look us up.

Here is track rental for the 19th. I am 95% certain I will not be able to attend. These are standup guys, I have participated in 2 track rentals they sponsored.

John,
Thanks for the info. $70 is a good price for a rental. Unfortunately I can not get off work to go. So I will be there EARLY on Sat. Thanks |
Do they still have the wed night test n tune?
|
No that ended in september.
|
The track gets too damp at night now to make it worth even having a test & tune.

I worked on my TA last night. I removed the Holley's power valves and re-adjusted my valves. (valve lash was way loose). This weekend I have a few other things I need to check and adjust. Looking to be in the high 10s Oct. 20th!

Like the Salesman said in THUNDERBOLT & LIGHTFOOT -- Kick her up Son.

Anybody else going??

Good News
I was able to get my car back together. I think we have it figured out. I have a lot more power on the upper end. There is still more to do - but it's way more than I had before. So it looks good for the 20th (Valley)... lets hope it doens't rain. My friends 65 GTO is back in good shape and he'll be there to. We're both looking to get 10s this time around. If we make it in the 10s then it's on for ATCO New Jersey.

The pits there really arent to many bad ones compared to other places I've been. Pretty scenery there this time of year too.(if its sunny) Way nicer place than the swamp at Cicero.

Ok track if it hasnt rained in awhile. Great people, but their programs often run too slow for my tastes especially compared to Lebanon. It IS in a swamp I wouldnt camp there myself. its about 400 ft above sea level so the air is good. track surface can be excellent after a dry spell. There is a nice camping area run by the Indians at Turning Stone about 30 miles away from the track. Much closer to the track is Onondaga County Park on west end of Oneida lake just north of Cicero near I81 There are probably other campsites but living less than hour from there I had no need. Another nice track is NY International(FKA Motor City) south of Rochester. Near Geneva. They used to host the IHRA summer nationals there, but IHRA out grew it. I was first to go down that track when it first opened(fall of 70 IIRC). Was a mud pit from new construction. We had camped there the night before and mud oozzed everywhere. Ruined some of my Dads camp equipment but thats another story. Good we had parked in the lanes though we might still be diggin out lol. First time driving a "real" race car if you can call a 283 powered Biscayne a race car. P/SA open headers 7 inch slicks, gears wow was I young and clueless then. Redlight first round (I think I left on the first yellow)! Chevy was courtesy of my brothers friend who had brought along his C altered. We had flat towed the Chev. Wow the old days I wont go on.

Doens't sound that great. My I'll plan one of my trips away to Epping, NH ?

Did the track rantal go off on Friday?
John |
Track rental
John' I went to the track rental Friday at Lebanon it was 75 and sunny when we arrived at 9:30. We left at 2;00 and it had not rained yet but was expected. I took my Lemans and ran 12.89 with closed exhaust and MT drag radials. You could run non stop after 12:00 with no problem if you wanted to, the lanes were very short. Maybe next year we'll see you at a rental.
Gene |
Can someone let me know when theres a track rental next time, id gladly pay 70 bucks to run 12 times.

Next year for me as wll. John |
John, the Lemans always ran low 13.0? I upped the timing to 32 the rest stayed the same. The 60' was 1.74 and that was the best ever, usually 1.78-79. the 102.7 mph was also the fastest. I trailered the car as I always do, 4:10 REAR WITH 28" Drag Radials.

Triathlon, I saw your car out to the valley today, sweet runnin TA. I didnt get a chance to introduce myself because I had to head off to work early. Good to finally see some pontiac people in my neck of the woods. Brandi, heres a link to there sight with a schedule.

I don't think it's carburetor. My Dominator has # 88 jets and I put the power valves back in. Timing is at 14 and 33. I grounded the MSD box to the head (instead of the firewall). By grounding it this way it did make an improvement. The car starts easier and seems to have a smooth 900-3,000 rpm band. Since this car was a complete rotisserie/full restoration... I think I need to chase all the grounds. Most things where painted - but I did sand clean spots for grounding. I think I need to re-look at what I'm grounding to. Another thought is swap out each electrical part one at a time to see if there is a cracked distributor cap, back spark plug wire, etc. The engine just runs rough / missing... I'm frustrated to say the least. On the positive side - I learned a lot Sunday and learning my car. The car is pretty mellow doing a 1.56 at the 60 and hitting 120 mph thru the traps. Very straight and smooth. I ran my 28x12.5s MT ET Streets at 14 psi. I haven’t put on my Cal Traks yet either. My shocks are just some old worn out shocks I found! Once I can get this engine stumbling issue resolved I'm looking for 10s. |
I was there on Saturday. When I arrived it was cloudy, then the sun came out. They were drying the track when I got there at 8:30am. It had poured the night before. I think they started to run at 10:30am.
However, water kept seeping through the track. They kept trying to dry it up. Every once in a while a car would get out of shape. Then at about 2pm, it started to drizzle. I put the car back in the trailer. I wasn't about to risk any damage. They did give me a full raincheck, $30. Good until 10/08. But I won't be going back. Island and Etown are much closer. Atco is just as far as Lebanon for me. I would choose Atco in a heartbeat. |

were you the one with the 68 lemans? |
No, see the sig below
|
Ok, i musta missed you, i always introduce myself when I see Pontiacs at the track. :)
|
BK: do you have a blower on your PDude 455? and if you do did you or someone else installed it for you? Just asking becasue it sounds like you are in my neck of the woods and I am planning (when I have some more $) to install one of PDude's blowers next year.

Quote:
I will give you a hand in installing yours because it will make my install go easier.:D If everything goes well, I may have one in the spring. College and teaching has to be my focus for now. But let me know and I'd be happy to wrench with you. |
Any of you guys going to ATCO November 10th????
|
I will be there
