This 66 is on fire. Ive looked at these pics but I cant make up my mind if I like it or not. As found on ultimategto.com..What are your thoughts??

Beautifully done! I certainly can appreciate the talent it takes to do such a thing. With that said, I can't find the words to describe how much I hate it!

That's a nice paint job. The guy did a good job.

I like George's response. It's quick and to the point. I'm not a pilot, but I think that flames are unpopular with the aviation crowd. I see that he has an airplane as his avatar.

I don't mind being corrected on this one, but flames seem to be more popular on bikes and cars. I've never seen an airplane with this paint scheme.

Boats don't count because the engine is not usually forward mounted.

Sure came out nice GREAT job but I like the stock look. Maybe on a Rat Rod.

Quality flame job but not my preference for my own personal vehicles.

i think its a nice paint job and works pretty good for that gto but i think it would be hard to find a starting point for the flames to roll off the front and actually start and it looks like whoever did this struggled but managed to do pretty good. the actual work though is excellent in my opinion

You can appreciate the amount of time that went into doing the flames. The quality of the paint work appears very very good. Saying that i would much rather see those flames on a 32 or 34 Ford Hot Rod or chopped and lowered 50-51 Merc. Just does not do it for me on a 66 GTO.

Wouldn't do it to mine! There are well done but belong on a rod.

Would look better on a street rod but man that is talent. I saw that Mike Levalle up in Washington State that does that and it is amazing.

Flames only look good on street rods, race cars and maybe street cars w/ big rugs. Unless your car is tubbed with a 14 x 32" or bigger, dont do it.

I like the Flames. Very nice work. I do like my car plain.
66 GTOs do not need flames to be tough. They already are.
I would like to learn how to do that.

Mike Lavalle's shop is in my town. Those fire paint jobs were cool 5 years ago. I'm kind of tired of seeing them now. He gets about 25 grand for about a day's work airbrushing a car. That doesn't include bodywork or a base paint job to work over.

Don't feel bad Old Blue, I have the same delema with my 66. Should I keep the flames or do away with them? My flames aren't as bold as the one you show... but they do look nice and looks to be a quality job. It seems a lot of people like them but then again they don't own the car. LOL

Waste of a perfectly good GTO. I would wet sand them off.

Mine will get flames someday. But more like this GTO. This is my freinds 66 with ghost flames. They change color based on the light hitting the car. Very well done.

I should probibly post more pics of this car. Its had more than its fair share of magazine exposure. It absolutley beautiful.

Your friends ghost flames look great. :thumbup: I like that look even better. But with all the clearcoat on my car it wouldn't be worth the trouble to change just the flames. I'd be better off stripping the whole car and doing a complete paint job. Then maybe adding flames like his. If I do a repaint I think I'd go back to the original Martinique Bronze, or something close but a shade or two darker.

Tod, does the x crossover pipe make any difference in preformance for the exhaust? I know that the original duals are both separate and straight back for each side. Reason is I'm trying to find out if it's worth going to the x crossover pipe or not.

I like it, but I'd rather see it on a Tri-5 Chevy.

The guy that did the flames is awesome - super talented.... but looks gay (can I say that? haha) on that car.

Gost flames are about all I could take on a GTO.

Flames like that belong on Chevy's (along with stripes)... cars that have no personalities of their own.

I agree,great looking flames,just not for that car.They would be more at home on a 50s lead sled.But I have to say wish I could lay down paint like that.

Nice flames.................wrong car. Flames are for street rods IMO.
