Anyopne have 70 GTO Option Codes?
Looking to decode my build sheet and have only decoded 1/2 the sheet. A/C etc...
Anyone have a list of the options list or link decoded for a 70? Thanks.. JG |
Build sheet from what plant?
|
Oshawa, ON..
the codes are different for each plant? Learn something everyday I guess. |
Hi, where did you find your build sheet? Do you know the production date of your car? My 70 Judge came off the Oshawa line in early December 1969.
|
4th week of April in 70. Delivered to the dealer on the 25th!
The car had 40,000 on it and was a total virgin when I bought it. 2 build sheets were under the rear seat! Same ones. Came with a protect-o-plate as well with full service records. Canadian car with A/C....weird. |
Post your codes and we'll decipher for you.
|
Strict70, the codes weren't different, just the format of the build sheet. If you want, you can E-mail me ([email protected]) your codes in question and/or a clear copy of the build sheet and I will help you to decipher it as much as I can. There are other avenues to finding your info. too, but it costs.

Wow! Ransom thanks. I have been trying to do this for a while now.

JG:
You might need to double check those four option codes that Mike didn't have. I've checked ALL of my 1970 reference materials, and can find NO references to any of those four. VERY nicely optioned GTO, by the way. |

I have no idea what the other options are either with the car being totally original....I can't even think of any other options on it that come to mind. Spare? Trunk mat? Floor mats? ..hmmm dunno. |
The AWF is more than likely the rear axle, WF (but you stated it had G80 and code should have been XF). The EYS is more than likely the engine, YS. And the TPY is more than likely the transmission, PY. I was thinking the O76 was actually the U76, mis-typed. One has to love build sheets.
How am I doing? |
Mike, you ARE the man.
Good show! |

Decoding options I have been trying to do for years? Id say you kicked ass my friend. |
I thought the codes were part of the PHS documentation. Mine were.
|
Never got PHS as the car had all the doc's with it when I bought it..just needed the codes.
|
I bought mine new but decided to get the PHS anyhow. Found out a couple of things I did not know. Got a copy of the shipping document. My car had some wierd shipping arrangements as it was bought through the dealer in Kodiak, AK but delivered to the airport at SEATAC and was prepped by an independent company. Shipping dest was Portland, OR but that was not final dest.
|
codes listed in GTOAA legends annual issues as well as several aftermarket books.
|
OK then engineer. What does O76 mean? And, what aftermarket books?

WOW!
Forgot about this thread. :D It would have been great if the OP posted his buildsheet. HFR, did he ever send you a copy? The 'O76' is probably incorrect. Never an 'O' coded option I believe. Probably an 'U' like U76 which was the windshield antenna option. the70OOJudge, you're Judge is a great car. :) |

HA! Wow — I totally forgot I posted in here looking for code help. Everyone was incredibly helpful… 25 years ago.
Happy to report I still have the GTO, and it’s in relatively the exact same shape. The original motor was rebuilt after a bearing let go, and I added a cam and Ram Air manifolds, but otherwise kept everything pretty much stock. It still has the original engine, transmission, carb, rear end, etc. What a great community this is. If some of you are still around, I’ll upload the build sheets. In the meantime, here’s the original Protect-O-Plate for sh*ts and giggles. |
I'm still curious on the O76...

hahaha 25 years later. It was U76 WINDSHIELD ANTENNA - the old sheets were pretty beat up.

Flipped the PoP so you can read it. Was your Oshawa build sheet on standard paper like US models or more of a print out on Dot Matrix / continuous computer paper with the small holes on each side? |
I'm sure it was just a small piece of paper with the codes on it.
|
Strict70#2, does the car still have the original engine?
What is the engine code on it? Also have a pic of the cowl tag? |

Ill get you. a pic of the cowl tag when i go home tonight. |
Cool. Just unusual to have a 400 2bbl in a GTO I figured.
Wonder if that was a Canada thing? (I haven't looked for engine production figures yet) :) |
Quote:
Where did you get the idea it was a 2 barrel carburetor? |
The Protect-O-Plate shows a 400 2bbl on it?
What is the engine code and eun on your engine? |
The build sheet had YS printed on it. The P-O-P looks like it says YD or YU or YJ, hard to say.

The POP says O and VVS report says C for some reason. (engine code)
|
That's the EUN (engine unit number what I call it).
Your POP says 0475581 which is correct so the engine code YD on it is wrong. The 'c' is because the 1st zero is chipped and it looks like a partial zero or 'C'. So on your engine it probably has the chipped zero. Also on your POP which is Canadian, it has the engine code and the eun like the earlier year POP had. I think the US POP did not show it in 1970. (and on) Which is why I thought it was a 400 2bbl, since a US made car would not have that info. :) |
I thought that chipped zero happened around 1972? Anyway that would only be if you looked at the actual stamping, the records should show the EUN with a leading zero I would think.
|
Such a great conversation - so much great info.
|

But all of my data shows it happened in mid/late year 1970. Some time in 1973 or so it was fixed or changed to a good zero. (think I have one eun with the 2nd zero having a 'C') :) |

Not sure why some continue to refer to the ( character as a C. Even GM of Canada's record keeping seems to perpetuate this.
Have examined hundreds of late 70 model cast Pontiac blocks & have yet to see a first character that the ( rose all the way to the peak or curled around at the bottom. |
