66 GTO color combination
 

I have a 66 that I am restoring. The exterior is code N burgandy. The interior is also red.
I like the exterior color & wont change that but I dont know if I like the red interior. Im
thinking of changing it to black. Anyone have any thoughts. Thanks

But its your call in the end. A couple of things may sway you. If your going to restore and sell it maybe worth more to keep original. If your going to restore and keep and dont care about original put it the way you want..
To go black and change to red later though would be tuff as I would think the dash paint different..

I am doing a 65 thats Maize exterior and original Gold interior I dont like the gold interior at all so am going parchment

Burgundy/black is a classic in my book, that's the factory colors for my 'bird. I can't picture burgundy over red, can you post a picture? If you're planning on keeping it, do what you want. If you think you'll EVER sell it...I don't know if that would be a deal killer or not, is the engine/drivetrain original? I'm thinking the burgundy/red combo has to be pretty rare...

Red over red - I'd keep it. Burgundy over red - I'd change it.

Bottom line - it's your car, do what you want...

I've only seen it once or twice, but the 65/66 metallic red interior looks great with burgandy - better than red/red, IMO.

I would not change it. That is such a rare color combo. My '64 coupe was burgundy/red. Prior owner changed it to parchment, which is fine, but I personally favor a red interior.

I'm thinking the same thing...that's got to be a rare combo. Does the interior NEED to be redone, or did you just want to change it?

I had a 66 Tempest Custom that was that color combo and to be honest I thought the 2 colors clashed.
I love both those colors but not in that combination.
I think the Burgundy looks best with a black vinyl top and black interior.
The red interior looks best on white or black.

Welcome Bruce! I have the metallic red interior in my 66. I don't think you can wrong with it! If you are going for the correct factory red colors, the upper dash, dash pad and package tray are actually burgundy. The rest is metallic red. That should be a great look for your car.

Bruce, It sounds like a very interesting car. I would keep it original if the cowl tag and PHS both match and say it is Burgundy/Red. I've seen more than a few 66 GTO/Lemans with typos on the cowl tag. One car said Red/Black on the cowl tag but Red/Red on the PHS. It appeared Red/Black original.

My 66 LeMans was the combo you have, but since the car was not original I changed to Black/Met. Red. Don't have many pictures, but here's one.

My first GTO was Burg./Black...loved the combo.

My current is Marina T and T interior. It'g going to black.

I love post coupes, that's one of the reasons I bought my LeMans! Welcome aboard!

I have a freind with a burguny 66 and parchment interior. It feels rich and opens up the interior.

I love a parchment interior on any color...except maybe black, only because I haven't seen it!

Is that Jim Sternbergs car? That car is a work of art. Think it has been in several magazines and books.

Sure is. Its stunning. Its actually a pre production a car with funky numbers on the data plate. If you run into Jim, ask him the history on the car. The paint is original!!

I never have either. It was an option with all exterior colors though.

I don't know, black/parchment might look kinda crisp...

I would leave the original colors....... I was skeptical about the red interior on a Burgandy car as well but after seeing this pic

You can't go wrong here.. What a sharp combo!!!!! And as someone stated earlier, very rare!!

Isn't that Montero Red / red interior - NOT burgundy / red interior??? Very nice color combo but not what he has...

There's no way I'd change it. Sounds like a real eye catcher of a color combo....I especially wouldn't change it with the documentation you have with it. You'll regret it if you do change it I think.
Burgandy over Black, while undoubtably sharp, is everywhere. Just like Red with Black interior, Blue with Black interior, etc, etc, etc....
Red interiors are one of my favorites and not often seen...and RARELY with Burgandy. Different is nice....

Agreed, especially with your PHS docs...

I painted mine black with a parchment interior. I thought it looked good at first, but I disliked it more and more as time went by. I solved the problem by repainting the body the original color.

I was looking back through my old HPP magazines and there was a feature of a 69 GTO 'vert, black w/ parchment interior...it did look pretty good.

As for your car, I'd still keep it factory. What have you decided to do?

My 66 project is Burg/Blk since the car is not original I was thinking of changing the color, but it would have to be a 66 color. I'm still on the fence, I haven't decided if I like Burgandy yet. Does anyone have a good picture of Fontaine Blue or Platinum?

Good job, I think you made a wise choice. In the end, it's your car, do what you want - as long as you agree with everybody's opinion here!!! :rolleyes:

I would go with the original colors...sounds rare.

Also, If you're going to buy a new inteior....go with Legendary Interiors. I went through 3 PUI piece of Sh^%& interiors thu Y1...and now will do it again with Legendary. 4th time is a charm.

I don't want to confuse you too much but the burgandy with the parchment interior is striking! It can always be changed back if you decide to sell.

The black looks nice Phil. And, I like the Cragars on her. :thumbup: :D What tire sizes are you using?

Love the color, it is the same as my first GTO. Not a fan of the 4X4 stance or the cragers. Car looks amazing though.

The fronts are BF Goodrich TA Radials P215 70R 14, the rear are Mickey Thompson Indy Profile G60 15. The wheels are not Cragers, but chrome Wheel Vintiques Rally II. Like the look of the Rally II and wanted to keep a stock look.

The post is very cool, but I would change the interior to what you like. You are the one who has to look at when you drive it.

I always liked originality, and combos out of the ordinary. All depends on what you like, it's yours, but hope you leave it ;)

Burgundy/red is not common. I would think black or white would be the most popular combos for the interior, and then red. But it matches, all the companies offered combos that way and, while it's your car, I think you would have to be crazy to make it anything other than how it came from the factory . . . even if Parchment looks so nice with Burgundy.
