Fullsize paper Catalog

Chris told me that if we wanted catalogs printed up that he's thinkig of doing this again instead of just the online one.

If you're interested bump him occaisionally by email.

Deadhead 08-15-2009 05:00 PM

PLEASE DO IT CHRIS!

Maybe it is just me, but I have a hard time with the on-line Cat. I have not found a way to search it to where I think I have tapped it fully for whatever I am looking for. I know I would buy more from them if I had a hard copy.

62 bv 08-15-2009 05:26 PM

hey im in i cant find any thing on the one he has know thanks Brody

Old Goat 67 08-15-2009 05:59 PM

Me too. One copy would be nice.

66bonne 08-15-2009 07:08 PM

Agree with Deadhead that I don't think an on-line search always returns all the options.
I need a paper catalog too !!

Jim

T.Weber 08-15-2009 07:36 PM

Count me in for a paper catalog too. I like having a catalog that I can ear mark pages of items I have to have in the near future and the near future can be about 9 months away.

hobbygto65 08-15-2009 08:36 PM

Count me in, I hate online catalogs.

68Prix 08-15-2009 08:38 PM

I would enjoy a paper catalog, I do alot of shopping on my breaks at work and have no access to a computer. Pat

19652plus2 08-15-2009 09:28 PM

I prefer a paper catalog as well. Peter

Matt Meaney 08-15-2009 09:32 PM

i am not a fan of the online catalog and would greatly appreciate one in paper.

BigCat4spd 08-15-2009 10:12 PM

Please print us a catalog, Chris! It will help your sales, I promise.

Engine-Ear 08-15-2009 10:25 PM

CCass, a hardcopy catalog would be GREAT...please don't ferget to add the RediRad to that dern thang! (it's not just for GTOs anymore)

Stuart 08-15-2009 10:27 PM

Hmm...I've had no problems with the online catalog, I thought it was pretty easy to browse through.

400 4spd. 08-16-2009 10:39 AM

A printed catalog would be great. Last April I bought stuff for my '72 GP from Ames just because they sent me a catalog. All of my GTO stuff has been bought through PY. To me, the printed catalog is much more convenient in several ways. Ever try carrying your monitor to the garage to compare a part?;)

Old Goat 67 08-16-2009 10:46 AM

I HAD to put a PC in there, because of no paper catalogs............
Go figure.

Stuart 08-16-2009 11:44 AM

Another option is to simply download the catalog as a .pdf file, and then print it out: http://performanceyears.com/Catalogs.asp I see the PY full size catalog was released way back in 2002 so it is probably time for an upgrade.

stucky2947 08-16-2009 12:21 PM

I definitely would like a paper catalog.

perryka 08-16-2009 08:30 PM

I can go either way, but if a paper catalog was available, I would get one for sure. Either way, I would definitely be interested in an update.

Goatracer1 08-17-2009 02:59 AM

I had a hard time reading the on line version so I put it on my desk top and printed it. Also alot of the items have had the price changes and some are nolonger available. It would be easier to write the changes in our own paper copy.

Ccass 08-17-2009 02:46 PM

update: We have officially committed to printing a new Big Car catalog. In fact, we want to make it even easier for you so we are creating separate Grand Prix and 'except' Grand Prix catalogs. The GP catalog will be done for the holidays. The fullsize catalog will be done before the Spring. In the past, the fullsize line has been an extremely slow mover for us. And I'll be honest....fullsize owners tend to be much more cost conscious and descriminating. So in essence, it's more work, less volume and less profit. Add that to the fact that so little new products have been made for the big Pontiacs and you can see it is very difficult to commit a lot of time and resources. However, recently we have seen some new products become available and PY has some products we think are needed that we can make. (don't jack the topic into a 'what's needed' thread :) ) So we think the timing is right to inject some energy into the big Pontiac hobby. So we're getting the ball rolling. It's up to you guys to keep it rolling. There's no way for me to sugar coat it. That means we need to see some sales! You guys gotta start buying some of this stuff! :) Now I know you're going to say you'd buy this and you'd buy that if it was available. Well, that's good but new parts aren't going to get made unless existing parts sell first. That's the snowball effect. So you guys in this topic can be the messengers. Start spreading the word. This might be the last chance to get the snowball rolling. It won't ever be quite like other models like Impala or GTO, but it can be a lot better.

Ccass 08-19-2009 03:13 PM

Well that's not a good sign. Two days and no comment. hmmmm?

Jagtec1 08-19-2009 03:41 PM

Thanks Chris! I am a new "big car owner", and will be looking for parts. I downloaded the PDF copy, but a separate hard copy of the "except GP" stuff is welcomed.

68Prix 08-19-2009 04:35 PM

Chris, This is great news. Pat

Specifically what part(s) of your post were you expecting comment on?

For me, the GP and Except GP separation seems odd. Also, '69+ GPs are not DarkSiders (as in B-body cars) and '62-'68 GPs are.

For example, if I am looking for weatherstripping for my '62 GP, will there be redundant listings (both in the GP and NON-GP) since that part is common to Catalina 2dr hardtop AND GP?

Unless I missed it in your post, specifically what year range will the proposed catalog cover?

...my $0.02. (it was expressed in a constructive tone)

Deadhead 08-19-2009 05:40 PM

I would say: save your $ on printing the different versions. As you observed, big car guys are discerning, so they can figure out what parts will work. That comes from struggling to find parts.

I personally can not figure out how to access the thing on-line, & I have built 2 cars & a house using dozens of vendor's on-line Cats. Every time I go to log on, it ends up looking like I have to make a phone call to figure out if PY has what I am looking for. Invariably that is at a time when there will be nobody at the other end of a phone unless I was calling China or India, which I have a thing against.

Hell, just photocopies stapled together are good enough! Keep it simple, & they will buy what you got, so you can make more.

mike nixon 08-19-2009 06:11 PM

Just ship me a Grand Prix Catalog when it's printed.

Mike

stucky2947 08-19-2009 08:30 PM

Ditto.

wldthng72 08-19-2009 08:47 PM

I would take one ,in the prosses of doing a 72 j, if i printed the pdf catalog out i would catch hell for wasting ink. LOL

Pontiac62 08-20-2009 10:48 AM

I would also like the big car catalog, but don't see the point of a separate GP catalog. The few things that are different can be noted. It should save some on printing.

We're making a G body catalog and a B body catalog. The logic is that very few G body items interchange with B body. Both car owners get frustrated when they browse through a catalog, find what they want only to realise it doesn't fit their car.

mike nixon 08-20-2009 12:49 PM

In that case, you'd better send me one of each!

Mike

Engine-Ear 08-20-2009 05:42 PM

that makes sense...

OK, I get what you meant before...something like a '69-'87 (??) catalog for G and maybe '55-'76 on the B?

BigAquaBonney 08-20-2009 08:46 PM

I'd like one--with lots of pictures. I often use them for reference.

Actually 69-77 but yes you get the idea.

Engine-Ear 08-21-2009 09:07 AM

Question to all: are the '78-'87 GPs being represented (catalog-wise) anywhere?

FWIW, the reason I axe is because with the 16-30 year-olds who are getting into the hobby these days, that body style is the 'car that dad/grandpa had when I was young' type of thing (in much the same way a '62 Biscayne was for people my age) and it maybe a good way to keep younger people into wrenching.

Your observations are valid. However, only the performance market has embraced these vehicles. We are not in a position to effect a lot of change with these cars at this time. Maybe if we get the early G bodies moving, we can put some R&D into the 3rd Gens.

mike nixon 08-21-2009 05:59 PM

Chirs, A few yrs ago someone was stamping floor pans for the 78-87 Cars, It might open the door if you at least sold weatherstrips and the pans?

That kind of repro is a big help. Trunk floors too. If anybody knows of any 76-87 repro parts, we'll certainly add them to the catalog but we are basically starting from ground zero.

carguy1959 08-21-2009 09:25 PM

I think the catalogs are a great idea...(2 cents)...

mushie1965 08-21-2009 11:24 PM

paper catalogue

Count me in for a paper catalogue also!!!!! Larry

64catdroptop 08-22-2009 09:36 AM

To add my 2 cents worth to this post: I religiously hold onto my only copy of my old PY catalog. I have a difficult time finding what I'm looking for on the on-line catalog. A paper catalog is a whole lot more fun to "stroll" through at night. There's nothing like curling up to a good car magazine or catalog on cold winters night!!

Chris, here's a link for the floor pan vendor

I too, would enjoy a catalog. I'll take the GP & non GP one unless you decide to just make one, then I'll take whatever that is too.

HEY, I've been away every day of August and since I got back, I've hardly had a moment to look up the PY website.

Printed catalogue is a FANTASTIC step forward. The PY on-line is frustrating to the extreme. I usually find myself looking at the Ames catalogue first, then looking up the PY on-line to try and find the same part.

Looking forward to seeing a hard copy.:D:D

Lemans 326 09-03-2009 08:24 PM

Great idea. I'm in for one if they come out.

Astro-Jet 09-04-2009 12:39 AM

I'm in for a paper catalog as well. I pleaded with Chris at Woodward for one, I guess he must have listened. :p

I just find it way easier to browse and particularly flip back and forth between sections with a paper copy. I also like having the illustrations right there, and not having to keep opening another window to see a further description, some of which don't have a pic or it does, it is often to small to see with any clarity.

Mark66 09-04-2009 01:41 PM

count me in for at least 1 catalog. I find when I order from a catalog that I order items in addition to what I need - that comes from flipping pages and seeing stuff I did not know was reproed or stuff I had forgotten I needed.
