I got this '69 for free, the guy was losing his storage and just wanted the 14X7 Rally IIs off of it for one of his many '69 Firebirds. Spent a couple of grand fixing it up and drove it to work for about a year before selling it. These cars are bitchin', I miss it.
I rebuilt the engine (re-ring and new bearings mostly) and put 6X-4 heads on it and an Edelbrock Peformer cam, it had most of the pushrods bent from the nylon cam sprocket that failed after around 97K miles. Put in a good used TH400 trans with a shift kit and a 2-1/2" dual exhaust. Used to run it at the track, it did low-15s at 95 MPH. Won a Friday night Street Tire Trophy bracket race with it once, had to launch it easy to keep the 235/75-15s from going up in smoke with the 3.23 open rear (205/75s all around in these pics). This big car impressed quite a few onlookers at the track, it held its head up high and ran good for a 4100# car with a low-compression 400 (87 octane) and no headers. Here's a pic of my 71 SJ when I first got it. Making progress even if slowly.
Found Honeycombs it had originally and many parts collected to use. Done the trunk pan, one lwr 1/4 patch. Pulled 12 bolt, cleaned and ready to paint it and re-install with new suspension. Working my up to the engine while I collect engine parts for rebuild. Hope to have it running in 1-2years. Having fun with it. Dean |

no nitrous. looks confusing as hell in the pic because of all the vacuum lines and braid everywhere. lines going to the turbo housing and intake are for the meth inj. line coming from the hat is for the fuel pressure regulator to add a pound of fuel pressure for every pound of boost. but no nitrous needed to spool this thing up thats for sure

here's a couple pics and sound bites of my cream puffs. the 70 is pretty much a daily driver. it has a 400 out of my 72 LeMans that i bought as a basket case (still is). the plan is to make it a 4-speed this winter. the 72 just saw the light of day in about six years last month. it has it's born with 455.

Hey Matt, just bought a 70 GP that could be the twin of yours, except mine has a bench seat and a few more power options. Restored in Indiana in 2003, still looks sharp. See pictures at www.madle.org/egp70.htm The only diff is now it has a set of new Cragers. What is the correct name for the colour? Ben.

Nothing special, optioned like most, I suppose. It has a power driver's bucket seat, tilt, A/C, P/W, PDL, and soon to get painted sport mirrors and an AM/FM installed. I don't see many with the front fender cornering lamps, though. Engine is a '71 400 w/96 heads and a mild cam upgrade. Wheels are 15X7 with 205/70/15 and 275/60/15 T/A's.

I've been enjoying my 69 all summer since getting it together.It's been getting more looks at the cruise ins than my 67 Chevelle. More people remember them I guess. Now my wife drives the GP and I take the Chevelle. I never thought that would happen!

Right back at you- mine are:
rears 295/50SR-16 fronts P235/60TR-16 the wheels are 16" from wheel vintiques- no trim rings. I see you ran 11.60- I am taking mine to the track for the first time this weekend- wish me luck |
