I bought another 2+2
 

Not what I was looking for, but you have to take what's out there.
I just bought this rust free 65 2+2 in CA. The 421 is long gone. It was originally a special order color Verde Green (has the extra trim tag and PHS to prove it). Has a few nice options too.

TOTALLY kick A$$!!! I found a beat up 66 Bonne behind the liquor store. The badges had it with a 421 or 428 I can't remember. I popped the hood, that engine was long gone too. The heads were stamped 4X. Turned out to be a 400. I wanted that car so bad.... The guy towed it away. Never returned any of my calls. I hope he didn't junk it.

You are right, get it while the gettings good. There isnt much out here on the east coast.

Beautiful car. I like the color. Especially with the white interior. Reminds me of my step dads 65 Bonneville Convet that got me hooked on these cars.

One thing is for sure is those hubcaps have to go!!

I was told that it has a 73 or 74 455. we'll see when it gets here.

A friend in San Jose saw it on Craigs List and told my local friend and he turned me on to it.

8 lugs are my choice.

Of all the big car years, the 65's are the best look'n.

Now all you need is a 4 speed set up. What Gear ratio? Posi?

Judging by the vin sequence #107771, I'd say that it was an early car.

I am not going to make it a stick. There is a Black/red 66 4 speed 2+2 that I was trying to buy, but the owner and I had some disagreements. Maybe he'll call me back??

As soon as I see the PHS, I'll post what it has/had.

The wagon has been sold to a PY member overseas. I still have it in my possession.

That color is nearly as ugly as it's new owner.

Boy, that '65 2+2 is a real looker. I really like the lines on the big bodied Pontiacs from that era.

Forgive me for asking a probably oft discussed question, but exactly what were the differences in body styling for 1965 and 1966? And perhaps even lamer, what were the differentiating trim components (and any other considerations, such as performance) that made a 2+2 different from it's brethren? Looks to me like badging, trim parts, bucket seats, console, maybe wheel covers, that sort of thing. Was is a single specific package, or could it vary by buyer choice? Did dealers ever add these components to a more common Catalina after they were manufactured? Seems similar to the SS packages from Chevy during that same time frame? I'm guessing the trim tag was special as well?

Is there anything wrong with cloning a common Catalina convert from 1966 into a 2+2 (so long as it is not misrepresented as such)?

Yopu are basically correct with the SS analogy.

The 2+2 was introduced in 64 as a sporty Catalina (but basically a Ventura) with bucket seats. The standard engine was a 389 2bbl, with 389 and 421 4bbl and 3x2 being available. In 65, the standard engine was a 338 horse 421 4 bbl. In 67 the standard was a 360 horse 428.

Nice looking car Steve. Mike's suggestion for a skull on the drivers door would be an interesting touch, but there's not any rust on it to give it the full effect.

My last 65 2+2 (purely a parts car at this point) would have been the perfect candidate for a skull on the door. It was SO rotted, the front crossmember under the oil pan was almost falling out. I have never seen a rotted front crossmember on any other Pontiac that I have owned, even ones with real bad frames.

I looked at that car a month or so ago. According to the seller it is a factory 356HP Tri-Power car... and appears to have the original set up. The car is loaded up with a lot of nice options. The car looks a lot better in the pictures but is a very solid black plate car. The seller seemed to be very honest and decent. The front and rear bumpers are kinda beat up and its missing the wiper motor. The car has a '73 400 in it. I did not hear the car run. He said that the starter needed to be properly shimmed... it probably needs a flexplate by the way he said it (JMHO) as he wasn't real eager to start it. My biggest beef with the car is that it was a little to beat up for what i was looking to do with it... and I just couldn't get over that white interior.... nonetheless it is a very solid car and I'm sure you will be very happy with it. He was asking $7900... I offered $6,000 and he called me back a day or two later but I said that I had already bought something else. I'm glad I held out because I wouldn't have been able to get the '70 T/A that I just bought :)

BTW - 8 lugs would make that car!

I agree about the 8 lugs. According the the Protectoplate and the PHS, the car came with a 338 horse 4bbl motor. The tripower is a 66 setup. The wiper motor is in the trunk. I have a friend in San Jose who looked at the car for me.

Did the seller provide you with the PHS? I asked the seller and he assured me that it was an original 3-2 car. The seller appeared to be somewhat of a car dealer and maybe wasn't as honest as I thought. I asked him over the phone about PHS and he was somewhat vague and changed the subject. I somewhat lost intrest in the car during the first 30 second size up... Maybe I should've looked at the Tri Power a little closer. At least you were able to have a trustwothy friend look the car over before you pulled the trigger. Just curious... but how much did you end up getting it for?... Just trying to gauge the market :)

BTW - The white pinstripe has got to go... you'll see what I mean when...

I did get the PHS. I knew well before I bought it that it was a 4bbl car. The seller is a very reputable person ho has been selling cars and parts for 30 years. He only figured that it was a 3x2 car because it had the setup on it as he is not really a big Pontiac guy.
I would say that I paid what the car was worth.

That 66 tri-power would look real nice on my Bonneville. :)

When did Larry stop doing the registry?

I'm not sure, but he sent me a copy of the registry dated 1995. Apparently keeping it updated without benefit of the internet/email was quite a chore.
