Rodney Butler & Travis Quillen debut new car
Rodney & Travis 5.51 into the video 3rd hit on the new ride.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bKRworLVCoo |
How many generic cars must we endure watching before we see Rodney's car?
This is a nine minute video; where is the good part? |
@ 5.51 into the video.
|
see the 5.51 into the video part
|
5:51 into the video!
|
Oh.
What happened? |
Looked like a really soft hit, but nice ET.
Thats my boy Chevelle Rob's video... |
wow, if you dont like watching that video than your crazy. I love heads up racing and those cars were gettin it! That red monte carlo pumped me up! Butlers new car is freakin awesome looking!
|
Call me crazy, then.
1/8th mile racing = |
Butler power!
that car will be a lot quicker,
soft hit, lifted early(down about 30+mph) and still runs that quick!!;) |
1/8th mile is where its at. 1/4 mile is on its way out thank god....1/4 mile is fine for bracket racing, but heads up racing is extremely better 1/8th mile. Better to watch, better to race, less expensive for track owners and car owners.
|
Scott, everyone knows that reaction time and 60 fts are drag racing, the rest is just NASCAR without the corners.
As cool as the Auto ProMods are, it's the 275 Drag Radial cars running low 5's that impress me. |

Or even worse, a 330' event. |

scott,
if you had a fast car, you would know what they are talking about. |
I already know what they're talking about.
People with fast cars don't complain about the second half of the track being boring. 1/8th mile racing is a fabulous cure for insomnia. |

Nostalgia heads up to the 1/4 mile is still very exciting, especially when watching fuel cars running in the 5.80-6.20 range. |
Not bad, but did you check the race right after it with both cars pulling huge wheelstands? Yikes!
|
I can only imagine the carnage the ADRL cars would have running the full 1/4. 180 to 200 MPH in the 1/8th. That is amazing racing.
|
Nice!.. anyone have recent pics or info on the '63

I see that butlers cars is a turbo - any info in it ???
|
Can't wait to see what it does FULL OUT!!
|
Thumbs up Rodney.............................. and Travis.
|
hahahaha, i always laugh when the 1/4 mile guys are crying....Because its not worth arguing, my point is being spread all over the country. Everywhere you look is going 1/8th mile.
I hated the 1/8 mile stuff too. Couldnt stand it. Until my first 1/8th mile heads up race......I almost went home when i heard it was 1/8th mile.....But after the race was over, i was trying to remember why we ever raced 1/4 mile. Dont worry, everywhere in the country will be heads up racing 1/8th mile in the next 10 years. Bracket racing is the only thing that might be safe for another few years after that. But eventually it will be 1/8th as well. |
Looking good Rodney and Travis!

Thanks for the link

Sure brand X, our track, Samoa Drag Strip in Northern California was just resurfaced 3 seasons ago. New concrete launch pad and all.
There was not even a thought of gong the 1/8 mile around here. Full 1/4 mile racing here on the ocean. Most cars who blow up do it at the end of the track. 1/8 mile tracks are just cheap. Cheap insurance, less real estate, less cost. There is no desire to see a race that is over in 5 to 6 seconds at our track. The only talk of the 1/8 mile here is maybe get some Nostalgia Funny Cars to do it as we are only certified down to 7.00. But a real 1/4 mile NHRA drag strip just got repaved and is not going anywhere. I know racers who are trying to get away from 1/8 mile tracks like the plague. 1/8th mile blows chunks. |
The cam is a "secret?"
Why? Is he Warren Johnson or something? |

Agreed with the above, how many generic race cars are we to watch?? ive seen no Rodney Butler run yet???
|
Congratulations to Rodney and Travis. The car looks great and is flying.

I love 1/8th mile racing. The underdog has a chance, and you dont have to buy a million dollar car to be competitive. The races are closer, less oil downs, more car counts, bigger payouts, more tracks, believe it or not bigger spectator count. 1/8th mile just makes sense. |
you cant make a 1/4 mile guy an 1/8 mile guy...but real drag racers love 1/8 mile racing..its the ultimate "gunfight"
|
Having raced both 1/8 and 1/4 many many many times, nothing beats the excitement of a 1/4 mile race. 1/8 mile is just half a race. And I have more wins in the half race stuff! But it's still half a race at only 1/8 mile.
Now back to topic, it will be interesting to see if Butler's new ride out e.t.'s that dragster or not. |
1. Is that a carbon fiber body that Mike Cooper had made?
2. Hopefully, Travis is doing the tuning. |
Quote:
If I'm not mistaken, Travis put the magic touches to David Hances DR car ( & possibly his PM car, correct me if I'm wrong ?) that set a record at BMP last Febuary in Florida. 1/8th............... 1/4. Ya run what ya have. A win is a win and the rush still is leaving the line and getting your shifts right down the track. |

Hell, my pit lane is a 1/4 mile long. Try running 2.66 miles of elevation changes, sweepers, tight turns under heavy braking, from 130+ to 40, hang a left-right combo, floor it into a down hill off camber right hander accelerating back to 100+ with cars in front, on your tail, and side by side lap after lap. Now that's racing... :drive: |
I think what Scott was inferring was that Travis is a better tuner. I see evidence of that myself whenever he's helping on Welter's car. When Travis is there, that car flies.
|
LOL...

1/8 is a direct offshoot of street racing..almost all of americas "match racers" have gone to shorter tracks..its hard to find a road worthy of 150mph plus top speeds..but a SHORT 120MPH BLAST WORKS FINE..
anyway, if your sanctioned track is 1/4 mile, go for it..we run 1/8 mile events on a 1/4 mile track..no room for errors..no coming back from the holeshot.. and road racing pays nothing, HO..it may be driving fun, but cant pay for itself..a good bracket guy can actually make ma few dollars at seasons end... enjoy whatever you like..race when and where u can.. and that 63 lemans gets me excited..what a beast..great to see the old bodys redone for racing.. |
it's amazing to see this thread get hijacked by a bunch of guys wanting to debate 1/8 mile vs. 1/4 mile drag racing.
somebody should start another thread so the whole lot of you can bicker at each other somewhere else. |
good point !!!

You ain't chittin'! Especially when you leave the line on a good pass and it give you that ohhh chit feeling!!!:D Congrats to the Butlers and Travis! That car is really going to fly when they put some decent power to it! |
Did anyone pay attention to the mph? That car has a LOT of potential, I predict low 4's. Congrats Rodney. -Jim
