69 Trans Am question

Was going over the Barrett Jackson List for Scottsdale this year and saw a 69 Trans AM on the list. They are claiming its 1 of 14 from the VN plant.

Just looking at the pictures gives me doubts anyone have any thoughts?

Plus I have never seen a Trans Am with a Parchment interior has anyone else?

Lot number is 1038.1

Stripes over decklid spoiler, Firebird fender emblems, Here we go again.........

relax428 12-20-2009 06:42 PM

yup that's what caught my eye as being the most obvious things that were out of place.

Tellyshavilli 12-20-2009 07:22 PM

Actually there were around 20- 69 ta's that came with the parchment interior and 2 of them were built at the Van Nuys plant ,one being a 4 speed and 1 a auto. Stripes over the spoiler and fender emblems are very common resto mistakes . Why are we so quick to criticize and doubt without knowing what we're talking about?

relax428 12-20-2009 08:21 PM

I would agree I was quick to criticize. But considering this was 1 of 14 from the VN plants I would have thought the people restoring it would have done their homework. Stripes over the spoiler I can understand. But the Fender Emblems really are a mistake no one should be making.

muscle_collector 12-20-2009 08:38 PM

i have owned two of the t/a's with parchment interior.

I can understand that but I have seen way to many that have the same mistake with the emblems ,so it isn't a big deal to me .I remember welding up the emblem holes on nos fenders I was putting on my ta convertible back in the early 80's
Installing the fender emblems and painting stripes over the spoiler is a common mistake thats made usally due to people looking at the adverisement pics from that era and also because of lack of research .
This still could be a great car and I like looking at it that way giving people the benefit of the doubt . But I could be wrong , its hard to say with the limited info and pics from the ad .

rwfisher 12-20-2009 09:02 PM

Personally, I wasn't criticizing the practice.... Just the debate I knew it would start. I'm sure this one will go over the block without even being noticed by the SPEED "experts" . Later they will do a full on conversation on a validity of a Yenko "Re-Creation Car".

Transamric 12-22-2009 09:10 PM

Would be good to see the Dealer Invoice on this one. I recalled there were a few TA's built with Parchment trim, but thought they were Deluxe version rather than std. style.

muscle_collector 12-22-2009 09:45 PM

both of the ones i owned were standard interior

Tellyshavilli 12-23-2009 12:39 AM

Ok , I went back and checked . I have found 32 parchment standard interior 69 tas and 6 parchment custom int. 69 tas, and one of the parchment cust.interior tas is a raiv , one red int. car , 2 green std int tas , 2 gold std .,1 ta with black std int . and 3 with black cust . int .the rest are all blue std or cust .

muscle_collector 12-23-2009 10:56 AM

matt, by any chance are the two gold cars the leather interior???

Tellyshavilli 12-23-2009 11:09 PM

Both gold interior cars are listed as 02 code and that is gold std . but the only way to be sure would be take the vin . and run a phs . One of the cars is a Canadian car and there both raiii 4 speeds .

I wonder whom that lucky guy may be ?

Uncle Judge 12-24-2009 03:07 PM

Is that like Jimmy from Seinfeld? He refers to himself in the 3rd person? "Yeah, Jimmy's got a couple of 69 T/A's with parchment interiors". :)

Best part is I did not have to pay for the PHS. It just took a year of hounding the previous owner to get it. Greg has passed on some of his good luck to me.

The Boss 06-22-2011 10:56 AM

With the date of 09A, did that one get a formula wheel?

I see it was one of a few TA's not optioned with Rallys. Very "Plain Jane".

Held for Ransom 06-22-2011 07:21 PM

My old '73 TA came from that dealer. What's in Aberdeen, SD that drove the sales of these cars?

johnta1 06-22-2011 08:31 PM

HFR, do you know where 997 'dealer' is?

Did it sit there until it was shipped in 1970?

Held for Ransom 06-22-2011 08:35 PM

It was a zone car. Hard to say where it was sitting or what it was used for before being sold to the dealer.

The Boss 06-23-2011 08:32 AM

on the first gen site it states that early production 69 t/a had the firebird emblem on the front fenders with the t/a sticker under it , is this not true?

I would rather have that one of one ra4 with the white deluxe. BTW how do you know these #'s? A local guy had one with white deluxe in the late 80's that was from New Mexico.

great car

azbirds 06-25-2011 05:53 PM

Is it possible that some of the original owners had the stripes added by the dealer? The reason I'm asking is because mine had the stripes under the three different coates of paint applied over the years. At one time my car was black, and another someone painted it red, but under all that paint was the original worn out paint. If someone saw that add and liked it, it is possible that is what started this stripe over the wing debate. When I restored my car in 1985 the stripes went back on the wing, right or wrong that's probably the way the original owner had it. By the way, mine has the standard parchment interior.

Tellyshavilli 06-25-2011 06:11 PM

No stripes on wing . Over the years when cars were repainted they were put over spoiler or whatever and then later owners will come up with whatever stories to justify their cars being original .

azbirds 06-26-2011 06:04 PM

I'm not saying it was original, and I know they didn't come that way. What I was saying is: If I was the original purchaser of a T/A and had seen the add, and liked the way it looked I could have asked the dealership to put it on the car for me, and for the right amount of money they would have. With that said, it would have been possible to see stripes on the wing as far back as 1969.

The Boss 06-26-2011 06:17 PM

Muscle Collector has said a couple of times that he has owned two original paint cars with stripes over the wing.....not agreeing, just sayin. ;)

phoenixpnr 06-26-2011 10:25 PM

I have one of the three black deluxe interior cars.
Does it really matter or affect value?
I could see where the "odd" colors (red, green, or gold) might.
Where are the blue vinyl top cars? And how were they optioned?

One of those was advertised on this forum (and I think elsewhere) a couple years ago.
