What is the value of a '65 Impala SS numbers matching 327 with a powerglide?

Nicely restored not show car but above average driver. Nice bodywork nice paint.

Factory Yellow with white interior buckets console.

20k is my opinion.

With the description you gave, I'm below Mike at 12-15k in today's market.

it really depends on who wants it and how far he is willing to reach in his pocket

65 Impala in decent condition, 327, blue. Mecum auction: 7K ! I thought it was cheap.

I would say under 15k for a nice one. 327 PG cars are fairly plentiful.

8k or so, up to 10k depending on condition
10-12k for a 4spd

Where did Mike come up with that price? I agree $8 to $10k is realistic. The powerglide hurts a lot. Ac can bring it back up some but even at the above price with this economy nobody will be beating down the door to get there. Yellow and white is a good combination.

There was a '65 SS 409 Impala in Auto Trader Classics a year or so ago that was asking around 25K IIRC.

Agree, the Powerglide just kills the value. 283 with original 4-speed would almost be more desireable. Yellow w/white is one of my favorites for that year Impala.

I saw a similar car sell a yr or so ago at an auction. It may or may not have been nicer than this one but it brought a tick over 20k. Bone stock, Chevy version of Maifair Maize paint [Candlelight Cream ?], Numbers, 327, auto ,a/c p/s,p/b,bucket seats, console with clock,guages, NICE ride.


The above car may have been a fluke but that was the final price and it sold.

There was a very nice 66 Impala SS for $7500 on Craigslist in NC about 3 - 4 months ago. I saw photos of the car, but never saw it in person, and it appeared to be very nice. It was a 327 automatic car.

Abe, if that's the Impala listed in February Hemmings for $13,500, it came down from $16,500 in June 2009 Hemmings.

It's got a couple rare options, but that doesn't off-set the P/G, in my opinion.

On the other hand, if the paint and bodywork are nice, That would cost anywhere from $8-12K, depending on how much prep work was done. An expense you don't have to add on later.

A friend of mine has a 65 SS 396 PG. with AC. Currently has a 454/350 turbo. It might be for sale? Still has the original engine/tranny.

Ummm, I thought all 65 Big Chevies with the 396 got turbo 400's when you had an automatic instead of the PG. I know the 409 got the PG, and I know that we bought the very first 396 65 Impala that our Chevy dealer got in and it had the turbo 400.

Jerry, all big block autos I've seen have the TH400. With Chevrolet never say never tho.

Difficult to say based on the info provided. 20K might be the upper limit. Where is it? I'm looking for one to replace the "rust bucket" I sold in 1973 for $200.

If that doesn't work our for you I may know a guy who still has one or two he'd part with locally.

As much as I hate to admit it, 65 Impala is one Chevy I would be happy to own. One of the best looking big Chevies ever made IMHO.

I had a chance to buy one a few years back from a friend. It was a factory 396 4spd car, red over black buckets, console. Really solid driver that I regret passing up but I was determined to get a GTO. I think I could have gotten it for a very good price at the time... By the way Mike, that color was called Butternut IIRC.

Back in 1977 when I met my now wife....her father had a 1965 Impala SS with a 396/325 hp with a 4 speed in the garage! All original with a small Holley carb, single exhaust, spinner hub caps and the dealer installed tie down on the drivers side to keep from breaking the motor mount! Paperwork was in the car stating price of $4,011 new.

I should have stated all AUTO TRANS CARS were equipt with a TH400. I edited the above post to reflect that.

Single Exhaust?

The only Impala SS I've seen with a single exhaust was a documented [original bill of sale and window sticker] 1966 6 cyl 3spd car. White painted top, teal body,black [carpet /dash pkg tray] and white interior.

That tie down was a facotry service bulletin, at least in Buicks, I may still have a copy of that one somewhere.

Yeah it had single exhaust from the factory and my father-in-law told me he took the car back to the dealer to install the tie down. In the late 80's he installed dual exhaust. Also around that same time I took the Holley to P-Dude for a rebuild!

I've never seen a 65 big block 396 impala with a single exhaust! Back in 1970 my best friend purchased a black on black 65 396/325 4 speed car with less than 40k miles-from the original owner. Was a dual exhast car. If memory serves me correct (and that is questionable) the 340 horse 409 with automatic got powerglides and 396 cars got turbo 400's.

I know the single exhaust seems crazy but I seen it! He purchased the car new and when I first saw it in spring of 1977 it was all original with 72,000 miles on the clock. The car was beautiful....soft lavender paint, white interior, air and full gauges.

I guess I'm remembering wrong, but I thought all 1965 396 were either 425hp or 375hp.

I assumed the 425hp was Corvette only, and all the other models got 375hp.

I had all the Chevy HP ratings memorized up to 1970, back when I was in high school, but it's been 25-30 years since I did any serious reading on Chevies.

That color is Evening Orchid AKA Iris Mist.

1965 was the year chevy switched from the 409 to the 396.IIRC,not many(about 800 hardtops and 200 or so verts)were made with the 409.At one point in my life,I owned 2 65 verts,one being a small-block,non SS car, the other being a rare SS 409 vert(with a small-block installed,the way i bought it,but i knew what it was).Had a deal on the table for a new house,needed more money so the real -estate agent offered to buy the 409 vert,couldn't talk him into the other one(he knew what it was,too).Long story short,wife was 8 monthes pregnant,we needed the house,bye bye vert.Always wished I could have kept that car.

The base 396 in 65 was 325 hp. We bought the first new one that our small town dealer got in. It was in a regular Impala, not a SS or Caprice as most were. I can't remember whether it came with a single or dual exhaust or not. That's been too long ago! We traded it for a new 68 Fury III and it sold to a little old retired school teacher who put only 10k more miles on it in 5 years. We bought it back from here estate when she died in 1973. By that time the original lacquer paint was faded and cracked so we repainted the car, drove it for a few months and resold it for a profit.

My mom bought a new 65 Impala Caprice 4-door hardtop. It had a 396 with a POWERGLIDE It was a pooch. Two years later she traded it for a 67 Pontiac Excutive.

I owned a 66 SS impala 427 glide,factory as far as I know. Shoulda kept that car.
