Oscars aluminum radiators?

Holy crap this is cheap! Anyone heard of these guys?

http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eB...id=p2759.l1259

$165 bucks for a bolt in pontiac aluminum radiator??!! They say its all welded and all aluminum.

LeighP 02-15-2010 12:32 PM

I've heard good reports from a couple of people who've fitted them...enough so that I've ordered a radiator for my 71 project and my friend ordered two 1st gen F-body radiators for his cars.
Won't know for sure for a while, since neither of our projects are near driving stages, but I'm hoping they prove to be good value.

limejudge69 02-15-2010 03:19 PM

I just ordered one for my 67 Firebird. Search the seller 'engineered-products' on eBay. They have a nice comparison between their radiators and the others on the market.

I just bought one for my 76 Firebird automatic.... I went with the three row for only 20 bucks more... so 195 for an all aluminum radiator is not bad...

270win 02-16-2010 09:07 PM

I bought one today...best price I've seen. I thought Summit had one for $200 but it seems the price has gone up, they're $350 now...

I bought a radiator from these guys for my GTO in mid November. It started leaking a few weeks ago. I finally pulled it today and dropped it off at a local radiator shop. Not good. It's leaking from three of the four corners where the fins meet the tanks. The auction listing says it has a 2 year warranty. I just e-mailed them to see what they can do for me. All the welds look really good and it seemed pretty sturdy. Maybe it was just just a bad example. We'll see what happens.

270win 03-04-2010 11:33 PM

I haven't put mine in the car yet, but I did take a pretty good look at it. It looks to be a nice piece...I'll be interested to hear what they say to you about the warranty,

Damn I hate to hear that, I just installed mine last week. So far so good. Brought my temps down at least 20 degrees. Hopefully they will stand behind their product. Please keep us updated.

ARAMP1 03-05-2010 10:56 PM

Well, I got a message back from him today. It read:

"You can send it to me and I will test it. If it is indeed leaking, I will replace it. Our address:

ET Product Corporation
1900 N. Austin
Chicago, IL 60639"

Well, it is indeed leaking, and not on the face where it may have taken a rock or something. maybe it was just a defective one. It sucks, but it happens. They guy has 100% feedback, so I'm giving him the benefit of the doubt. We'll see what happens.

270win 03-05-2010 11:03 PM

I hope they take care of you on it...sounds good so far, as long as they don't tell you it's not their problem.

tr709 03-05-2010 11:34 PM

I bought one last year, so far so good.

270win 03-06-2010 01:04 AM

That's good to hear! I was starting to get concerned...

ARAMP1 03-18-2010 08:06 PM

UPDATE

I sent the radiator back. There has been some delay and I was beginning to worry that they were going to flake out on me. I got a response today.

"Sorry for the delay in getting back to you. I tested the radiator and it does indeed leak all over the place. I will send a replacement out tomorrow. Can you please send me the address you would like it shipped to? Mike"

So, it looks like they're going to stand by their product.

limejudge69 03-18-2010 08:11 PM

Cool! Nice to see a company actually stand behind their warranty for a change.

270win 03-18-2010 08:41 PM

That's great to hear, I think they make a good radiator...glad to hear that they'll back it up too!

77birdman 03-20-2010 04:24 PM

Went to look at ebay and found one for $148 from here

http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/77-78...Q5fAccessories

The seller is proradiators. Looking for an exact fit for my 77 bird.
Anyone got on from them??

mogeo 03-23-2010 06:40 AM

RE: "engineered product" aluminum radiators

how was the fit? did it fit into the rad support without modification?

does the shroud fit in nicely without hacking?

Hoping to keep the car unmolested looking under the hood.

Thanks
Rich

tr709 03-23-2010 09:48 AM

I put one in my 67 bird last year and it was a simple R&R. No mods or hacking required, shroud fit was the same. It's been in for 10 months now, so far so good.

I installed an Engineered Products radiator in my 67 Bird about a month ago. It bolted right on, no problems at all. My factory shroud also fit, however there are no provisions at the bottom for the clips that hold the shroud on. I engineered some black zip ties to hold the shroud at the bottom. You have to literally crawl under the car to see them. I'm not a 100% original fanatic so it doesn't bother me. Overall, I'm pleased.

mogeo 03-25-2010 06:51 PM

Thanks all.

Did it relly lower temps about 20 deg?

I have an AC car, and would love to see that! I did all mods metioned in previous posts, but cont to run 220. Hoping this will help. A Camaro buddy said I should by a Be Cool or similar. Very pricey if you ask me. He says you get what you pay for. i say, he did not shop around enough.

limejudge69 03-25-2010 09:22 PM

Yes it lowered my temps 20-30 degrees. After buying the EP radiator, I would not hesitate to buy one again. I know Be Cool, Griffin, etc are excellent products, but I am a cheap a$$ and wouldn't spend the extra money on a name brand part if I could get one that performs similarly for less money.

:D :Peace: :clap2:

I guess I will spend the extra 20 bucks and get an EP radiator

mogeo 04-03-2010 10:23 PM

just got the EP rad today. I jumped the gun and painted it black already. I hope it doesnt leak!!! Should have it installed in a few weeks.

77birdman 04-28-2010 05:40 PM

Any update on these EP rads???

mogeo 04-29-2010 07:10 AM

funnny you should ask. finally got it installed yesterday and ran the car for the first time. Could not get it on the road though... No front beumpers yet.

Rad fit right into the original mounting holes perfectly. Although, the actual core of the rad is about 1.5 inches smaller than the 4 core I replaced. The Shroud fit the core, but because the tanks are closer on the EP rad, the shroud needed some minimal dremeling to fit. I took off about 1/4 to 1/2 inch fron the upper radiator hose area, and the same by the upper tranny cooler lines, and petcock area. There is no where to secure the shroud on the lower part of the radiator, but mine fits tight there anyway.

Let it run for 40 mins. No problems. Coolant flow seems adequate. Idled b/w 170 and 185 all day (190 deg stat), but it was cold here yesterday (55 deg).

( I also performed the fan clutch adjustment described in another post here. What a difference. When the air crossing the fan was cool, there was minimal fan noise. As the temps climbed a bit, you could here the fan clutch engage the fan. Really worked.)

So, yes. The EP radiator seems to be a good buy. Ill keep you posted on how it is when temps climb.

Rich

77birdman 05-01-2010 08:49 AM

Thanks, mine runs hot on the highway, ok around town.

77birdman 05-15-2010 01:52 PM

Looks like EP don't make a rad for my ride, did anyone purchased a direct fit aluminum radiator at a reasonable price for a 1977 bird?

bankbook 05-15-2010 02:40 PM

Just got one from Oscars for my 79 anniversary. Looks like an OK piece. Dimensions were the same from my original, have not had a chance to mount it yet but looks fine. It is less than 1/2 price so I could live with the aluminum look. Probably paint it.

BVR421 05-15-2010 06:25 PM

and yet another low priced radiator

http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/1967-...Q5fAccessories

mogeo 05-16-2010 08:53 PM

So, an update on the EP rad. Was 80 here in NE PA yesterday. Ran the car for about 1-1.5 hours. Up hills. ealy driving, some heavy throttle. Well, very satisfied. Car ran the coolest it ever has. temp would get up to 190, then I could "watch" the gague as the thermo opened. dropped like the stock market fast to 170 ish and fluctuated there. With my 4 core brass it never ran that good! Car is a 400 mild cam 10.75:1 16 x heads, ALL the mods performed. This was the last one to do... payed off. Very happy. Painted it black with semi gloss high heat paint b/c I did not want to draw attention. Loos good too.

Rich

77birdman 05-17-2010 03:06 PM

Order my Oscar :second: today, should be here in a week or so.

brian damian 05-17-2010 05:11 PM

just a little bit of info i have personally come across.looks like alot of oscars radiators
are SILLA brand.some of his part #'s are the exact same.so to save a few bucks google
SILLA and you may find your app cheaper.

77birdman 05-22-2010 08:53 AM

What do you pur in your new aluminum radiator, 50/50 mix or distilled water with water wetter (wondering if this gives enough lube for the pump). If you use water wetter do you need 1 or 2 bottles?

Pontirag 05-22-2010 01:47 PM

arn't aluminume radiators passe now?

OH, ok, I WANTTO BE CURRENT!!!! :jumping:

What is in now, wooden radiators? :D

Pontirag 05-24-2010 08:21 PM

go for it. I still got the brass on from 65 still in mine. I been to a few car shows ;lately and noticed fewer aluminium radiators. Racers are starting to complain about duribility issues. Several have or are going back to Brass. Aluminum did not solve thier problem and cause some others. as a fashion statement they may still be "IN" but,,,

bluzurb 05-26-2010 11:08 AM

i am having a heating problem in mine and am seriously thinking about the aluminum rad. For all those who went with the aluminum, did you go with a 2 core or 3 core?

mogeo 05-27-2010 06:46 AM

2 core. works great

bluzurb 05-27-2010 10:24 AM

ok. i noticed yesterday that my original one is a 3 core.

Most AL radiators have 1" tubes, as opposed to the 3/8" (or so) on a copper/brass unit. That's why they usually feature 2 'oval' tubes vs. a 4 tube.

77birdman 05-30-2010 12:19 PM

:D Put the radiator in yesterday and went for some local runs, what a difference, my 180 degree thermostat controlled fan kept cycling in and out (before it went on and stayed on). Today went on a 50 mile ride at 70-75 mph and the temp stayed around 190 degrees. Went down a big hill on the interstate, popped it into neutural and the temp went up real fast, I guess we need the rpm's to keep the coolant flowing. :D

Aluminum radiator maybe passe but sure works for my ride, and for $170 it is no big deal.

GTOLou 05-30-2010 11:20 PM

Anyone know what size tubes are in the "three-tube" aluminum radiators?

You will probably have to check the specs on whichever radiator you're looking at. There are differences in tube sizes depending on the brand.

MandevilleBird 06-04-2010 04:06 PM

OK...based on this thread, I ordered a rad from Oscar's this afternoon. They reccommended the 3 tube for my application('68 bird, 500+ HP). 3 X 3/4" tubes.

My engine always seems to be on the brink of overheating. 190 is the coolest it ever runs. Only had to pull over once, last October in stop and go traffic at 91* (230 degrees!!!) But, Its worth the $234 not to ever have to worry about overheating again.

I'll post my results...

Good stuff Mandeville - your in the heart of heat down there. I've got some family there and it gets hot.

I'd guess that 2x1" tubes = 2 inches total and 3x.75 = 2.25 inches total. Must be better than standard aluminum radiators w/ 2" total?? Tell us how it works..

77birdman 06-06-2010 08:59 AM

The radiator I got had a rubber sleeve on the top hose connection. I took the sleeve off, the hose seemed to be too big, I tighten the clamp down. No leaks, however I was wondering if the that sleeve should of stayed on?:confused:

gtoformula 06-06-2010 02:01 PM

The sleeve is an adapter for larger radiator hoses ... maybe like yours. If your hose fits over the inlet tube with the rubber sleeve then I'd recommend using the sleeve.

http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/1968-...item1e5ce13249

Anyone have experience with these guys?

Edit: I was looking at the dimensions and there radiator seems to be bigger than the other ones offered on Ebay. "19 1/4" high (incl cap) x 33 1/4" wide." Will these clear the factory fan shroud?

MandevilleBird 07-07-2010 08:09 PM

I installed a 3 core in my '68 Firebird. Fan shroud fits fine. Its a CHAMPION brand radiator.
