I hate to derail this thread (I love Rush too!), but there's also a new Tom Petty song that he debuted on Saturday Night Live a couple weeks ago. Now, I like Tom Petty, but I'm more of a "greatest hits" fan of his, I'm not a listen-to-every-track-on-every-album fan.
Anyway, this song surprised me. Sounds like an old Zeppelin song. The Heartbreakers can still rock. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3_iBKacXIA4 Cool song... |
tom petty doesn't even begin to compare to geddy lee's pinky toe.
mike, when's your can am video coming out, and what's going to be on it? i'm a can am psycho nut; if you've got stuff i haven't seen yet, i sure want it. ciao |
The source for my Can-Am material did not come through with a couple films he had. Not sure when this will be done, I wanted to make this a 2-DVD set, but I may be relegated to making a single DVD.
I'm a Chaparral nut myself. Still looking for original footage of the 2J car. http://www.smilieshq.com/smilies/happy0024.gif |
i bought two dvd's recently on can am stuff.
1 kinda sucked, the other, narrated mostly by jim hall, was beyond outstanding; lotsa Chap stuff included |
rush owns!!! they always have and always will and they are Canadian to boot!
anyone got a youtube link still active for these new tunes? there are only short clips on their site but they sound dynamite!!! |
Looks like I`ll have to investigate.;)
|
Love RUSH played at my high school in the 70's
|
youtube links are dead now; pulled for copyright claims.
if anyone finds more please post 'em; i'll buy the album the day it drops like always but i wanna hear them again now |
polar, i'm wicked jealous; that'd have been beyond over the top cool to see them gym jam
|
Rush is the best. Got tickets for the CT show in July, and tickets for the MA show in September. And sandwiched in between in the Tom Petty show in August. With the car freshly painted, new 600HP+ engine this year, its going to be one heck of a Summer!!
|
Not to mention Rush is finally doing what I had hoped they would do for a long long time...play the classics!!! Moving Pictures in its entirety? GREAT IDEA!
I remember an interview they had somewhere many years ago where they said they had to had to relearn to play Red Barchetta because it was so long since they've played it. (and because they have such a hug library to pull from) Disappointing to hear since its got to be my absolute favorite, but I think this concert will prove to be memorable. |

Yes indeed a great idea! I saw them on the Permanant Waves tour and they played Red Barchetta, Limelight and Tom Sawyer prior to Moving Pictures being released. Red Barchetta is by far one of my favorite songs bar none from any band. I may have to find where I can see them. |
Speaking of 3-piece bands, I was thinking about how many bands have 3 musicians and 1 singer (just sings). Essentially a 3-piece when they play live. Obviously, bands like Led Zeppelin come to mind.
I can think of a few true 3-piece bands that made it to the top of the charts... The Police Rush Nirvana Any others? |
U2 is a great band. Bono just sings, doesn't he? Queen too...but i dont know if Freddie guitared or not...
|
Bono actually strums along on many tunes when U2 play live. Same thing for Freddie Mercury. Both of them are 4-piece bands, but the lead singer occasionally plays some acoustic to fill in. I've actually seen Robert Plant (Zeppelin) and Roger Daltrey (The Who) strum an acoustic guitar now and then on stage, but I never saw Plant do that while with Zeppelin, just in later years.
Just thought of a couple others: Jimi Hendrix Cream |
Tres Hombres
AKA ZZ-Top uh huh huh huh |
I was the 1st guy to get Fly By Night when it came out.
My straight as an arrow buddy was a devote Beatles fan. Thats as hard rock as he got. He road shotgun cruise'n-street racing my 68 FB that Friday night with that, Nugent, and a few other rockers blar'n thru 4 new Jensen 6x9 coaxial's. He's been a Rush nut ever since. |
I remember getting 2112 when I was a teen. Lakeside park is a 5 min drive from my house. Me and Neil Peart went to the same highschool.

polar, the first time i heard the first album as a very young kid i knew instantly they were the band i'd most wanna spend my life listening to.
youtube music is back up on a few links; search bu2b and caravan and you'll find 'em. this tour is gonna friggin' rock! |
Andrew, how old is your dad. Very good chance I know him.
|
2112 nearly cost me another two sets of 6x9's in the FB. Maybe some hearing too...
One night my same buddy and i got back after 1 am from street racing and fell asleep in the driveway listening to it. The windows where up cause it was cold out. My dad came out and tapped on the window madder then heck. It woke him. His closed bedroom window was 40' away :D |
