To all prius owners......
GET THE PUCK OUT OF THE WAY......
I drive a lot. I have dozens of circumstances where Prius owners are camped out in the fast lane at 58mph, with 15 cars behind them. I applaud you for driving a hybrid but don't sit out there and try and control the traffic. Thanks, that feels better. |
Same sh*t in Maryland!
|
I finally found out why they don't go any faster. A Prius owner told me if they hit 60-62 MPH the gas mode kicks in and engine takes over from electrics....That's cool....but like you say.....move the hell over in the slow lane !!!! I get so frickin' pi$$ed at that kind of crap..WOW...was that me ??:D
|
What i hate is the guy who thinks just because i'm doing 75-80mph he has to ride my ass.
Then when i speed up to put some space between me and him,he speeds up and still rides my ass.Till i give him a brake check! Then they get pissed off! |
Just "punt" them out of your way, especially if your driving a truck.

I'm sure many will feel a different state deserves this award more, but I think Ohio drivers earn the all time left lane camping title.
Even when I'm on vacation a few states over, the left lane campers usually have Ohio tags. |
Yep. Coming across the Ohio turnpike Sunday before last, we were constantly having to use the right lanes to blast by cruise controllers in the left lane.
The majority of Pirus drivers I saw were staying in the slow lane though. There seemed to be a high frequency of seeing that model in the New England States. |
Honestly in my weekly trips up to MA to see my Mom in the nursing home it's the Acura drivers I find the most agressive.
I have discovered that where they may try to pick a fight with me in my Tacoma, they won't bother me in the Ford. :D |

we have roadrage here in oklahoma iam even guilty of it, " cut me off and then smurk about it and theres probaly gonna be an issue" but in ohio they drive around looking for people that looks like they need the finger dealt to |
on the fastlane deal, if iam running the speed limit and can obviously see the pace of traffic is 5-10 mph faster and iam the bottle neck, and dont wanna go any faster ill move over, on the other hand if iam running the speed limit and passing everybody but one ahole or iam running 5-or 10 over the limit and that same ahole gets behind me riding my bumper, which really only bothers me at night when they make where i cant see i find me whatever it is in the truck that i can use to bing someone over the head with first, then i break check the sht out ofem, then if they dont like that idea they sureley dont like my next idea which is to direct them to the side of the road, i hate people running my bumper and out on the highway i like plenty of space in front and behind me and as far as iam concerned that little piece of road that iam taking up at that very minute belongs to me and i aint movin

R.I. drivers are notorious left lane hogs. Until they are on the side of the exit they want then they cut off people(no turn signal) to take the exit. They also go from a dead stop on the on ramp, to the left lane. I've come close to a lot of accidents because of the idiots in that state. |
Quote:
but for many it seems theres no actual speed limit regulation when it comes to passing.;) the primary reason for traffic congestion and accidents are from slow and fast speeds from drivers |
[quote=wytnyt;4177551
the primary reason for traffic congestion and accidents are from slow and fast speeds from drivers[/quote] Is this speculation or fact, because I would love to do a traffic study to find out why traffic slows and there is no apparent reason why. I believe that traffic is significantly slowed from entering vehicles from on ramps, rest areas etc. IF people obeyed the slow to fast lanes traffic would move with less problems. I don't have an issue at all with drivers obeying the speed limit. But please drive in the right hand lane. |
if everyone did the speed limit, traffic would flow better, people think the passing lane has no posted limit .
and if everyone did the speed limit there would be no need for the passing lane IF thats all it was designed for,but it isnt. its for traffic dispersing and reducing congestion, which is why some highways have 3,4,5 + lanes |
After driving the 320 miles round trip to the PRI show today its back on the top of my list.
I HATE left lane campers. I don't care if you're going 20 over, when the lane to your right is clear move over. When there is a car coming up on you, move over. It's common courtesy, it's polite, its the right thing to do. Just like when shopping in a big store and you run into your friend, you don't stand in the middle of the isle blocking everyone, you move off to the side. I'd bet that the people camped in the left lane are the same ones blocking the isles in the store. I call them the "ME" people, they only care about themselves. Mikey is exactly right, the right left lane is for passing. I also find that it's not the speeders that cause the problems (for the most part) its the people driving 55 in a 70 that do. Everyone has to do a brake slam and quick change to get around them, causing everyone in that lane to hammer the brakes, chain reaction. |
people can tailor the ''passing lane'' to suit whatever their needs may be or want but
if the speed limit is 55 and a driver is doing 55 in the pass lane NO one has the legal right to pass . of course society is fixated on the idea of being that one car ahead thinking its really gonna save them time. some just cant handle following these type of people are the primary cause for accidents and that comes from seeing mishaps every day for 30 + years |
When I see someone in a prius, I just feel compelled to pass them. Something about my 22mpg gas sipping LS2 at WOT in thier ear makes me giggle.
As far as bad drivers, stay outta South Carolina. Omg. People around here are notorious for pulling out in front of you. 2 lane roads, there won't be anyone behind you for 20 miles but someone on a side road hauls ass to get out in front of you then drive 35mph. |
I like the Prius drivers that are TEACHERS and put a gas mileage sign in the back window!
I felt compelled to write a reply to one and had it on my truck tail gate for a few days and boy I got lots of thumbs up!! Sign said ... "My battery is NOT $6,000 Dollars!!" |
Jeff Duham drives a blue Prius, and Walter tells him... "Yer gay!" LOL

Being in close proximity to other vehicles while driving exactly or under the speed limit is FAR more dangerous than proper lane usage and passing, even at considerably over the limit. If there's nobody next to you, then you won't hit them when you blow a tire, try to avoid road debris, change lanes without looking, hydroplane, doze off, swerve while texting, answer a call, eat etc etc etc. I've been sideswiped 3 times in the last 20 years while involuntarily stuck in "parade mode" ( behind morons driving exactly the same speed next to each other in every lane). I've never had an accident when going well above the speed limit, mainly because it vastly reduces exposure to other vehicles. The left lane is for passing. (period) If you're not passing, regardless of your speed, then move right. It really is a simple rule, designed to facilitate the flow of traffic. Oh, and I feel your pain David H! THEY'RE BAAAAAACK! In spite of the awesome weather, I am about to put the GTO away for a few months after driving around today. Holy crap are there some bad drivers out there and NONE of them are speeding....... |
What about the a**holes that will not merge over when its posted 5 miles back, lane closure ahead. We could get through those if people would just merge and not wait till 1/8 mile to try and get over. That just kills me and I will never let anyone over in that situation. Possibly adding to the jam but hey whatever. Almost had a guy hit me because I wouldn't let him in. I wasn't budging. I think the Prius thread has been hi-jacked. Sometimes I dont mind being behind someone doing the limit, it keeps me from speeding.....and a ticket.
|
Maybe it's different in other parts of the country, but there are plenty of Prius owners around here and I haven't noticed that they're any worse or better than any other drivers...the brand of the car doesn't matter, people will be good drivers or bad drivers regardless.
|
Quote:
i guess you zip past them before they can hit you i guess you must have a special license that makes you a safer driver if you speed. in reference to your ''parade '' driving ,,that is THE SAFEST FORM OF DRIVING. think about it parade hits are very light since all are going the same speed VS. some nut speeding 30 over and plowing into a car and yes slower moving cars pose the same danger as speeders |

The left lane is for NASCAR wannabes that think they're in a race cutting in and out of traffic barely missing the front fender of whoever they just overtook. Oh yeah and NO TURN SIGNALS and tailgating the driver in front of them too thinking the can force them to speed up.
And you thought you were making really great time and I pull up behind you at the first stop sign or light as soon as we exit the thruway, I usually toot the horn and wave at them so they know they didn't gain a thing by all the unsafe BS they pulled......LMAO too...;) I just had one of the NASCAR wannabes go around me a couple months ago on an on ramp, he cut over as soon as the 2 pieces of concrete came together disregarding the solid line and hammer down ran all the way over to the left lane and passed about 3-4 cars. This is in a 55MPH construction zone with double fines imposed too. I get down the road about another mile and here's MR NASCAR WANNABE sitting on the side of the road with a trooper just exiting his car walking up to his door...........I just tooted my horn and waved at him........:) I just wish it was mandatory for ALL drivers to be held to the same standards that CDL drivers are held to and go through the same classes we attend, the roads would be much more pleasant to drive on. Professional drivers use turn signals, Are you an amateur driver????? |

at least from what ive seen lately. and if by some miracle they did pass classes,,,it wouldnt be like what they're used to with 7,9 or even 12 points and still be able to drive. one ticket and your subject to losing your license. |

id love to see all drivers be required to take mandatory drug tests in order to drive
better yet, have all vehicles equipped with driving devices. you speed, your mailed a ticket repeat offenders or driving erratic and your car goes in a shut down mode :) driving is a privilege and not a right,as most seem to think.. |

Exactly! It's worked great for almost 30 years! Would I be safer if I stay next to them longer so that they can hit me? ;) Quote:
Yup, it's called common sense, situational awareness and a basic understanding of physics. Speed is not the only factor to consider when driving safely, although most folks don't seem to understand that. Proper lane usage, along with a few other things are just as important. The safest place on the road is inside a very large buffer zone, which means out by yourself, away from other vehicles, regardless of speed. It gives you room to maneuver if something happens to you or another car. Quote:
Most of the time, you're far safer going over the limit and passing (avoiding parade hits altogether) then driving exactly the limit next to someone for miles on end. Why put yourself in the position to be hit, when it's so easy to avoid it? A "parade hit" from an 18 wheeler at 70 (the limit on the interstates down here) is safer than going 10-15 over to pass it? Most folks around here seem to think so..... Personally, I'd prefer a speeding ticket to an accident, but I am definitely in the minority in these parts. There must be some type of schooling instinct built in to people. It defies common sense and logic to willingly choose to put yourself into a dangerous position right next to another car (when you have other options) at any speed, so I assume it's some type of subconscious thing that folks don't even think about. Or it's my other theory that they are all morons! ;) |
I really liked the South Park episode where they trashed the prius owners, instead calling the car pious, saying while they are not major air polluters they do however emit SMUG. The wife and I laughed our a$$es off on that one.

im sorry if i appear to be ragging on you but your type of logic is the no.1 reason for accidents but society think their above rules,,laws,,regulations rules dont apply to them they must get that one car ahead nothing else matters but what THEY want post # 40 REALLY needs implemented |

I'm talking about the rest of the time, where traffic is light and moving. You'll get these knots of 3-5 cars pacing each other in all lanes with miles of clear road ahead of them. Down here, you can't set the cruise control AT the speed limit on the interstate for more than a minute or so in daylight, due to the 3 lane rolling road block. Even late at night when I'm driving home from work, I'll often come upon 3-4 cars blocking all 3 lanes on the interstate at well below the limit. Why would they do this? There is no logical reason to drive in parade mode when there are other options and it is far more dangerous than leaving a safe interval between cars using the correct lanes. Quote:

I completely agree. Those that drive in the left lane when they aren't passing think that the rules, not to mention common sense and courtesy don't apply to them. |
