So where was your car bought new? And who still has their dealer tag?
 

I was just wondering where everybody's cars were bough new, and if they had the dealer tags still (the piece that was usually on the decklid or tail panel). I'll start off, mine was from Bill McDavid Pontiac in Fort Worth Texas, and it has an emblem in the shape of Texas with "Bill McDavid" on it. Who else? Anyone know if Bill McDavid dealers are still around? A quick Google search revealed a David McDavid, which was his brother it seems.

I ordered mine from Messener Pontiac. I didn't want a dealer tag stuck on it, so it doesn't have one. There is a little sticker on the inside of the glove box door.

My Bonneville was bought at Triangle Pontiac. Pics attached.

My 1975 455T/A was originally shipped to Knopf Pontiac on Lehigh Street
in Allentown PA.

It was dealer stock and supposedly it sat in the show room according to the
second owner. It had a Ranken Easton PA dealer tag on the rear spoiler,
So I wonder if it was transfered to another dealer for the sale or it was traded
in at the other dealer. PHS showed it was delivered in July 75 and not invoiced
untill August 75.

I'd love to know who had it originally, I bought it from the second owner,
I rember his name was Shawn Afflerbach of Coplay PA. He said it was bought for him
as a graduation gift and his parents got it from a guy in Easton, PA
I rembered seeing the car all over when I was in High School, I never thought
I would end up with it. I wish I had taken photos of it back then.

I found an old Trans Am club of America 1st place dash plaque under the console
and the coolest thing I found in it was a 1975 GM paper coffee cup stuck to the floor pans under the carpet.

If anyone in the Allentown PA area knows or rembers the car I'd love to hear from you.
Also if anyone has any Knopf Pontiac Lisc Plates or Deck lid tags I'd love to have one.
Even a photo of a knopf decal would be cool. They used to have a cartoon dog's
face with the words "drive happy" under it.

Im my area they did not put on dealer tags/emblems onto the car, but they did have license plate frames.

My '64 was originally sold by Pittman Pontiac in Antioch, IL. No clue if it ever had a dealer tag on it - when I purchased the car in 1992 it was in gray primer and basically needed a total restoration.

If I could find an early 60's vintage Mesaba Motors dealer tag from Hibbing, MN, I'd put it on my car. My Dad was selling GTO's (and other fine Pontiacs) there from 1963 - 1982.

Both of my GTOs were sold right here in downtown Atlanta. The '68 at Boomershine Pontiac on Peachtree Street and the '66 at Taber Pontiac one block west on Spring Street. Don't have the tags for either.
I have a '78 Bonneville that came from Shelton Pontiac in Paducah, Kentucky and it does have the dealer's emblem on the trunk.

Mine was from Leo Jarnagin Pontiac in Fort Worth. It had the dealer tag on it when I bought it in 1991, but I removed it when I repainted the car in '93. I've lost track of what happened to the tag, but it's around somewhere at my dad's. It had a yellow bee with the tagline "Honey of a deal". The dealership is long gone. Last I checked there was a Borders in it's place, but I'm sure that's gone now.

I bought the car in Denton which was only a few miles from Ft. Worth. I always thought it was cool that my car was built in Arlington, sold in Ft. Worth lived it's life in a 50 mile radius until I brought it with me out to California.

I believe McDavid is still around and sells Hondas and Acuras. Not sure of the difference between Bill and David, but I remember David McDavid from when I was a kid. They had a ton of commercial in the '70s and '80s featuring the dog "Wide Track" who I think was a great dane. They used to finish the commercials with the pitchman saying "Right, Wide Track?" and the dog would bark.

I grew up in the DFW area and would drive by the dealership on occasion. Their dealership sign and tags were pretty memorable to me. I see the tags on occasion out here in California.

I have the PHS for my 67 but no dealer can be identified, wish someone could point me in the right direction as to its original place of sale. Born at the Pontiac, Michigan plant though and only assume it was sold locally where I live seeing that I have owned it forever (36 years) near the same town where I bought it.

My 70 GTO was bought at Phil Tolkan Pontiac in Milwaukee, WI, no tag, and don't know if it ever had one, the deck lid was replaced when I got it as a project.

I have the dealer info for my previous Lemans Sprint which was wrecked many years ago.

It was originally bought at Johnnie's Pontiac/GMC in Minot ND. It came with a rear defroster and block heater, I guess it gets pretty cold up there.

I also have the protecto-plate.

It was sold there and lived there all its life untill I got it. My 65 Catalina I had was bought at a dealership in Winterset Iowa. I have the leather key holder still somewhere. I'll never get rid of it.

Heres mine.My car had body and new paint (poorly)in the mid 80s and the guys didn't put the dealer emblem back on.I found the dealer and he gave me one he still had.So when we did the correct resto I put it back on,maybe in the wrong place.
Built in KC.My parents bought it new,I was only a couple weeks old

order the window sticker it will have the dealer name and address

My 66 GTO was bought new (by my parents) at Bud Meadows Pontiac in Seattle. There was no emblem on the car, but it did have the license plate frame. I recently found one and re-installed it. I also found a Meadows emblem on a 67 GP parts car I had, but I am not going to install it on my car.

My 67 Executive wagon was sold at Young Pontiac in Mineral Wells, Texas. The dealer emblem is still on the car and in very good condition.

My 73 Formula was sold at Executive Pontiac in Missoula, Montana. I would love to find a license plate frame from them.

My 74 GTO was sold by Mecham Pontiac in Phoenix. Again, I would love to find a license plate frame from there.

I also have an emblem from Quality Pontiac in Albequerque, NM. This came off of a 66 LeMans I parted several years ago. The mounting tabs broke off when it was removed, but if anyone has a car from there, it is available (I don't know why it looks purple in the picture)....

Mine was sold new at Alexander Motors in Superior Nebraska. I checked the web,and they are still in business. Car has been repainted,so no idea if it had a dealer logo. None on it now.

My car in front of what was Messener Pontiac in Sutersville,Pa. Small dealership, there were four employees. The owner Tom Messener, his secretary, one mechanic and a mechanic/lot boy. Show room held one car, I don't think a full Pontiac would of fit in it.

In the second picture on the side is the big door I drove my car out of on May 22, 1976.

Is your car restored? If not I would leave it original. I have heard of people haivng theirs copied for restored cars.

I dont know....I wouldnt touch that one period! Its so unique.

I dont think I have ever seen another like that one and I collect these.

Mine came from Taylor Pontiac in Chatanooga per the original title. No luck in getting a license plate tag, they must have been too busy, but I did get on their email junk mail list for about 3 yers.

My car was sold from Ted Rapp Pontiac in Camden NJ. It had a dealership tag on it cause it still has the two holes on the trunk lid where it used to be, but it wasn't on it when I got the car. Anyone got any from Ted Rapp pontiac please let me know if you are willing to part with it.

Was that Taylor Pontiac or Trotter Pontiac? My 65 GTO came from Trotter Pontiac in Chattanooga. They were actually still in business up until a few years ago. I've never been able to find any tag frames from them either.

That first shot was from the old downtown location and the second shot was after they moved out to Marietta. When I was a teenager I worked for a small town Plymouth dealer that sold a lot of used cars. We bought a lot wholesale cars from the Boomershine downtown location. I remember going downstairs and peeking at the new model cars before they would show them to the public.

The car is restored, and I may just stick it on my car show info board. I agree, I have not seen another from this era, it's definitely unique!

My '64 LeMans Conv. had it's original dealer frames from Doten Pontiac of Berkeley when I got it. The picture shown is with my '67 Conv plate in it.

My 69 Judge was an early zone ordered car, but it had a copy of the original sales sheet in it when I got it in 1979. If was sold by Epperly Pontiac in Christiansburg, VA to Robery Dolinger who traded in his 1966 GTO for the Judge. Robert still lives in VA, and I have been able to speak to him several times. Robert said that this was the first Judge that he had ever seen. (It is a 1C car.) He kept it until 1977. I got it 2 years later. Robert says that his son still speaks of the car occasionally and plans to bring him here one day to see it. I have a picture of the Judge with his 2 year old son from 1972. His son was born Jan. 1, 1970 so I can tell what year the pic was taken.

Epperly Pontiac sold Oaklands at one time and was owned by 3 brothers if I remember correctly. The last living brother sold the dealership, and I was able to speak to his son who is the Fire Chief in Christiansburg. His son did not have the desire to run the dealership. I have seen no evidence of an emblem so I assume that the dealership just used tags.

This was probably too much info, but it means something to me!

My 66 GTO came from Jones Pontiac in Lancaster, PA. Seeing I'm the 3rd owner I'm not sure if it came with the dealer tag or not. They did have them tho. I do have their vinyl grey Jones tag on the rear just above and to the left of Pontiac on the tail panel. Looks like it was meant be there as it reads 'Jones Pontiac'.

I used to deliver to Knopf Pontiac quite a bit back in the late 70s and 80s. Great people to deliver to.

Constantin Pontiac,East Liberty-Pittsburgh. Still have the sticker on the front and the key fob.Wish I had another fob.Also the original 'paper temp plate' for Pa. The drag car came from Mt Laurel Motor Car Co. (Rolling Rock Beer -they owned it-their salesman's car dealership). Have a key fob only.

Yeah, I meant to mention that the sign was taken out back of the Marietta dealership...but it's the old sign from the original downtown location. That's why I took the pic.
In fact, I don't think they even called it Boomershine when it was in Marietta did they?

Actually it stayed as Boomershine for several years. They used to sponsor some local POCI shows in Atlanta when we had a chapter there. That would have been in the early 80's. I don't remember when it changed over to Marietta GMC Pontiac. That was the name when I was working at the GMC store in Gainesville. I used to do a lot of dealer trades with them.

BTW, didn't you say your 66 came from Taber? If so, PM me your mailing address and I'll send you something interesting you might like to have for your car.
