'61-4 Bonne 4 speed shifter tower
Whist dinking around in the back garage today, I found an original one of these. Are there any 4spd Bonnevilles out there needing one??? Or are they being re-popped too???? PJH
|
As far as I know only the Catalina/Ventura shift porches are reproduced, so one for a Bonneville is a rare find. I'll bet someone here has been looking for one.
|
Bonnevilles had different trans tunnels than Cats and Venturas, if your Bonne is missing one, it would really be a find!

I believe the Bonneville shifter porches are being repopped in fiberglass by a gentleman in Wisconsin.......re: www.pontiacparadise.com. Maybe others are making this part too.

Just like the one mentioned in the pictures below.......not much rusty either!!! This one has yellow junk yard paint on it stating '62 Bon. I probably marked it those many years ago!!!! It has some extra screw holes in it, may have been tried in a different application. PJH

I guess I'm a bit confused. I looked at the picture that Stuart posted and compared to what PJ posted. Agreed, that the one the PJ posted is the same as in my '64 Cat, but the difference I'm seeing from the picture that Stuart posted doesn't have much to do with the trans tunnel configuration (?)... I guess I'm looking at the "hump" part on Stuart's pic. Is there a difference between bench and console cars or is there that much difference in the contour between the Bonniville and Cat trans tunnel?

The difference is because of the size and shape of the transmission tunnel in the Bonneville. Here's a photo of a shift porch for a Grand Prix with bucket seats, note that it's pretty similar to the Catalina / Ventura porch pictured in the other thread except for the square hole.

Aha...........I have one of these also. I have it marked '64 GP as I remember. I Junked several '64 2+2 & GP cars many years ago. PJH

I'm surely in favor of having a picture of the bucket seat Bonne shifter porch here, too. If I switch over to a manual trans in my convertible (power buckets), it'd be helpful to know what I'm looking at. :-)
Thanks, --Corey |
coreybrenner..........Check the pictures in Stuarts post, he has a black one & a fiberglass one. These are the same application & look just like the one I have except mine looks used. PJH

PJ, those are for a bench seat Bonneville. I'm not sure what one for a bucket seat Bonneville looks like, all I know is it has a different part number.

Wow. Seeing that one example, how on EARTH did GM make money back then, let alone now? (rhetorical question but it does boggle the mind!)

Was in the back bld w/camera today.. Here is the Bonne. shifter 'porch' that I have. I priced this to an inquiry at $100. but cant seem to find where he followed through....unless I get some solid verification of an 'I'll take it!!!', it is still for sale. PJH

That was me, PJ. I can't take it now, due to finances and a prior commitment to buy a set of heads (yay!!!), and my Bonne has bucket seats, so this porch wouldn't be what I'd need.
Thanks, --Corey |

Hope this works...
Here's a pic I stole off eBay, where a guy got this replica '64 Bonne/Bench shift porch for a song. --Corey |
