Just found out one of my good customers has a pretty rare car. He's a a little younger than me and works at a local body shop. It's a 69 1/2 A12 Superbee. Hemmings Muscle Machines magazine featured it on their cover in the March 2010 issue and did a 6 page spread on it.

I had seen him drive it to our shop before and had no idea it was such a rare car. I have never really been into Mopars myself. Anyway... here is a link to the article and more photos.

Red/black vinyl top RR looks like James Cook, though not certain. Ed Cook's(James' father) FAST legal A12 runs 10.60s, Scott McKenzie(FAT A12) is in the 11s.

I enjoyed reading the article...it's a good story. Funny how little I know about Mopars. I never imagined it being that cool. Guess next time he drives it over I will have to take it for a spin.

Ihave some cousins up in Washington with one. Its a born with drivetrain original paint garage car... Their dad bought it in '71 for $1600. It looks like the one in the pic except it has a black vinyl top.

Very nice...these cars, and the Road Runners are very cool rides...some of Mopar's best.

I nearly bought one of those , but a guy who owned one told me that they are a hand full on the handling department , so I bought the GTO.

If it would handle better it would probably run circles around me. :)

Awesome car! I have to admit....I have a soft spot for Mopars. My Dad had a '69 Road Runner with the 383 and 4 speed when I was a kid.....loved that car.

Although I love Grand Prix's I am currently restoring my 70 440-6 Cuda.I bought it in 1980 when I was a kid and it was a real street warrior. Still has the orig. engine, hemi 4 spd. and Dana 60 rear!:usa2:

I had a couple of Mopar's back in the 70's, a 70 Barracuda Gran Coupe 383 auto and a 67 RT ragtop, 440 auto.

...always a MOPAR guy here, still have several including an A12 Bee...yes, they are like driving a truck around town

I always liked those old Mopars. I used to know of one that used to run around the east side of Columbus Ohio back in the early 80's. And I started racing in a 69 383 4speed RR back in '77 and never lost a race. I'd love to find another one just to play with.

BTW, that car in the video is now running high 10s banging gears in F.A.S.T. legal trim and isn't quite "un-known", at least out here on the East Coast. Back when that video was shot 5+ years ago we were both running mid 13s and the race could go either way any time we lined up.

Mopar B bodies are awesome. Especially the A12 'Bee & RR. They were clearly built with one thing in mind in 1969. They were faster than the HEMI. The 440+6 was much more common in 1970, in a wider variety of models.

I'd love a 1970 Charger R/T 440+6/4speed in Black with the red bumble bee stripe and the reddish interior. Maybe a 1968 GTX in burgundy with the white interior and a HEMI/4speed.

Second, your reading comprehension is just astounding.:roll eyes: Reread again... slowly. 5+ years ago the red A12 car was consistently a mid 13 car, as was mine. Then the cars owner, Ed, put in a high $$ motor that makes significantly more power than stock. NOW the car runs high tens.

Somehow I skimmed past this before- Yes, that's James in the Youtube video- I think he was 17 at the time. Do you know Ed and Scott? They're great guys, but then most of the F.A.S.T. guys are. Ed's black A12 is retired from racing now- He was talking about putting it back to stock. Ed's running a Max Wedge car now. Dave Dudeck recently sold his car. He's building a new ride now.

I bought and owned a 69 Super Bee when I got back from Nam. Mine was green with black stripe. Unsure what the A12 is. Mine was a 383 4 speed. It would do 150 factory.

Never have been never will be a fan of Mopars. Were junk when new and even though I can appreciate a nice restored one the interiors on those things just remind me of Grandma in her Scamp. Ugh....

When I was stationed at Ft. Lewis Wash. I drove my Cuda there from Mass. I found a triple green 69 charger RT/SE. loaded. Saw Mt. St. Helens after it blew up with that car. That was a sweet ride!

...option code "A12" is the 1969 1/2 440-SIX PACK/SIX BARREL version of the Super Bee or the Road Runner...commonly refered to as "lift off cars" because the hood lifts completely off after removing 4 hood pins...approximately 3300 built

...most were very low optioned cars, mine is a "no radio" car
