JWs on ebay!
1 Attachment(s)
Something is weird about these wheels... look at the 3rd to the last picture. Embossed stamping? None of mine look like this... anyone ever seen one like this before? Optical illusion?
Click here to see the auction http://forums.maxperformanceinc.com/...1&d=1326819791 |
I spoke to that guy a while back. He also sells JW style wheels with no stampings at all that he has made. Last I talke to him, he was asking $800 for a set in red primer. A guy I know bought a set and claims they are identical to original JW's, but I have not seen in person.
|
To me that wheel looks OK. The embossing around the JW looks like things I've seen on other wheels. Look at the MI over 1 in this example.
http://forums.maxperformanceinc.com/...hmentid=215091 The thing I notice is that the JW, KN and KR stampings are always sans-serif. The picture fourth from last in the auction looks like a font that would be a serif type for the 15 and the JW. Compare it to the third from last and you can see they are significantly different than each other. |
They look Ok to me too. I've had a couple sets dated 7/15 & these look typical. But I'm not so sure the market can bear that auction price. No bids at this point.
|
I would say that they are original JWs not repops. No sign of welding on the backside....Origionals are resistance welded a reshelled center would be mig welded.
|
Looked right to me, too. Everything but the price, anyway.
|
The guy seemed really nice and legit when I spoke to him quite a while ago. He said that he had that original set and repop sets. When selling the repops, he makes it clear that there are no stampings on his and he will not stamp them. The repops he has don't have the stampings inside the rims like the originals. I am sure those JW's are indeed originals.

I saw what you saw too. Sometimes the 15 and JW look like they are raised - like a date code on a block. Sometimes it looks like a normal stamp impression. kinda freaky - i've looked and relooked many times and it still bounces back and forth |

Welding up and blasting and stamping wheels is one thing, the price is something else!
They should be marketed as repops at least. |
I emailed him that his price was too high, even for originals.

I've got this one sitting on the shelf.

Like I said on another thread about these - it's a very late date and likely won't work for 99.5% of the 70 TA's out there. I've got to believe these were originally delivered on an early 71.
Rarity + Desirability = $$$$ Anybody want to venture a guess how many of these got tossed in the first year or two? I think this is a case where demand outstrips supply. |

I posted a pic of my 7/15 on our JW date thread. I agree that these would have been for 71 cars.
|
Anyone here get the set of five 4/10 70 JWs that just sold? They're gonna need some work.

original JW

What about the full set of 3/9’s that sold last week? Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk |

I'm surprised the 1/27 went has high as it did considering the scallop damage to the lug holes -- that will need to be repaired. |

I was surprised the 3/9’s lasted as long as they did. I couldn’t get a good enough view of the lug holes to tell but at least one looked like it was toast. That kept me out of it. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk |
JWs on ebay!

Idk, but I’ve seen oct of 70 dated JW’s. Pretty damn. Late to be still stamping JW wheels since it’s well into the 71 model year |
what did they bring?
|
$2800.00 for the set of 4 that I saw.

Yes but you didn’t add the tax eBay now charges nor the fact that someone is gonna eat the shipping as it was stated at 60 bucks. All in all I’d say with tax and shipping around 3200 bucks Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk |
That’s 3 times what I paid for my 70 T/A. I finally found a spare 1/26 JW for it this spring. The guy selling it told me he knew what it was worth and would not budge on the price. I gave him his $85.00 and left with a smile on my face.It had never been bolted on a car.

Sounds like my 69 Trans Am alternator I found at a swapmeet. I see it from across the way and say no way. Walk up it’s laying all by itself in the center of his spot ironically. I picked up and the old man says “it works, I pulled it off my 40 ford just last week for a chrome one”. Ok, how much? 20 bucks he says, I didn’t have the heart to offer him 15. I payed and walked straight to my truck and put it behind the seat under a towel. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk |
On Ebay right now: Original 1970 Pontiac Trans Am 15x7 JW Rally II Wheel 70 Firebird Formula 5/25 if anyone needs it.

In the later part of the 1980's , they (JW) were retailing for around $100 each in good used condition.
I thought that was just way too damn much. who knew - not me RamAir Manual code Carb cores were about abuckfifty. - i missed that bus too |
There was one that sold yesterday for a Buy It Now of $375. Single rim needing to be redone.
|
That's the one. Went quick.
|
There was a set of 4 on eBay with the auction ending this morning. However, the auction got pulled. Bidding had only gotten to $1,100 as of last night when the auction ended early.

There was a pair of 1/28’s that magically disappeared at 1k. These sellers get antsy when they don’t hit a high number right away. Some of us wait til the end to bid. Bummer for them Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk |

Slightly "borrowing" the thread here. Curious if there are any dates that are rarer or more valuable in JW's than any others.
|
seems like the later dates in April and May that are more correct for the RAIV cars go for the highest prices
