Just saw the article, in HPP, about Doug Hunts red '72 T/A. Is Doug a member here?

I don't know if he is a member or not but Pontiac should have made red a regular production option for the T/A. Looks awesome with the stripe!

I agree... They could have had a red, white and blue patriotic trio.

Pontiac paid the SCCA $5 dollars PER car ( '69-2002) to use the T/A name on the car..

The Pontiac Trans/Am IS the RPO for the SCCA >> RPO WS4 Each Trans am was built as a semi SCCA race car. The Z-28 was Camaros SCCA race car. RPO Z-28

Franke/Fomula8, can you advise who made the decals for the bird & the stripe? I was thinking of a similar look - nice to see the finished product. Ive seen one other thread on this the red & white TA theme

Funny you should mention that I'm in the middle of getting lettering for Formula8. The stripes are from blue car. The lettering is custom cause blue car lettering has blue in it. If you look in the article about SCCA T/A in mag they have a close up of their lettering and it's blue.
I will up load a pic. Steve you stuff is definitely in the works.

was comfort weave available in 1972 . the article says that the interior is untouched. my 1972 has comfort weave also . it is an early build car also . has any one seen the trim tag on this car . what does it show for exterior color etc. maybe rocky rotella can answer these questions:confused:

Sure!

Comfort Weave was available in tan and black in 1972. They, and the other colors were available in perforated vinyl.

The trim tag shows an 11A build date, dashes for the exterior color, and 236 for interior trim.

I am preparing concour restoration stripe and letters package for the blue and white Trans Am's. However, a cool by product of the work is the ability to use the artwork to digitally produce a stripe set in any color. The only exception is white cannot be used.

If anyone has an interest in this let me know. I'm interested in making set for someone for promotional purposes, so it'll be cheap to boot!

The stripes will be on the same clear vinyl as the concour stripe sets.

Here's some sample prints I produced just to get a feel for the colors and look of custom colored stripes.

I'm generally not one to doubt you Rocky, but are you SURE about comfortweave availability in 1972 Firebirds?

I've never seen a '72 with comfortweave seats. Just the standard "Morrokide" vinyl, the deluxe perforated "Morrokide", and the deluxe cloth and "Morrokide".

AFAIK, comfortweave was discontinued on Pontiacs after the 1971 model year.

Yeah, technically it's "Morokide with Cloth Inserts," but it's very much like the "Comfort Weave" that most are familiar with. I went with that.

Take a gander at this pic of the "cloth" inserts from a '73 T/A I almost bought years back. Same "cloth" as a '72?

No, it's completely unlike 1973 cloth interior.

I'll have to see if I took any closeup shots of the interior.

Here's one pic I have of it. It's definitely a cloth material.

Here are a few snippets from the 1970 and 1972 Colors And Interior Guides.

Custom Interior for 1970 had vinyl trim combined with knit vinyl or knit cloth inserts.

Custom Interior for 1972 had vinyl trim combined with knot cloth inserts. (Perforated vinyl was also available).

So it is Comfort Weave in a technical sense? No, but all three sure look like it!

if you look at a photo of black vinyl seats next to this pic, you'll see the difference. The cloth inserts have a more "matte" appearance to them versus the more "shiney" appearance of the knitted vinyl inserts, especially when right next to the surrounding vinyl material. If that makes sense?

Now that Rocky posted those upholstery sample close-ups, I DO recall what that fabric looks like. Believe that I've seen the '72 fabric seat inserts in an Espirit ot two, don't recall seeing that in a Formy or T/A though. It's been a while . . .
