68 Lemans parts car Western Ma

Here's a link to the CR ad.
http://westernmass.craigslist.org/cto/2914681992.html I have nothing to do with the car. I've exchanged some emails with the guy, he seems like a normal person, willing to bargain on the car. I was looking at it for some parts I needed but the dollars just don't work out in my case. Below are some additional pics he emailed to me. If anyone does buy the car, and it has a decent left front fender, glove box door, valance panel (unlikely to be better than the one I have now), or decent core support (unlikely) ....then I could cover some of the cost buy purchasing these parts from you. JohnnyB Saratoga Springs NY PS. He says it runs, said if I brought a battery and some gas it would start. No reverse I guess. Ad says it has a posi rear .... if it's a pontiac posi I'd be interested in the differential also. Not the whole axle, just the diff. |
Times like this I wish I had extra cash!!!! I could use some extra parts. Its a parts car if its rusted that bad. Looks like its sinking in the ground so its been there awhile.
|
Just heard from the seller again, evidently he's willing to sell the car for about half what it's listed for... now it's getting tempting.

Buy it. Offer him 500 and that's being generous.
|
500 considering transportation costs involved
|
Yep he pretty much told me he'd do it for $700 no problem. Still ....it's a bit much for the few parts I need off it ...assuming they are any good.
For a person that needed the right parts .... it could be a bargin, but not so much for me. The posi ...if it has one, sounds interesting. Without looking at the car, heck it could have a 350HO far as I know. But ....you know how you get a feeling about things ....I still have the feeling I should pass on this one and wait a bit longer. I'd rather pay $2000 for one with interesting, decent condition bits I could use and sell. If it sits there a while I might have to go at least take a look at it. JohnnyB |

My pic from seller...he also said the carb is missing so he hasn't started it since he parked it there 3 years ago.
|
It don't take long for the trees especially them pine trees all around it to help the car rot away. By the look of the pics I don't see 700 dollars for this car. Wish he had an engine pic !
|
Hehehe ....he told me to bring a battery and some gas and it would start .... would be difficult without a carb.
Mark it down to another CR weirdo? JohnnyB PS. But from the way he sounded, he'd probably take $300 in cash for the car if someone showed up with a tow truck. |
For that you should go get it, take the parts off you need & scrap it for more.

The "parts cars" from this era are getting fewer by the day. Most of them in this area start out w/a $1500-$2000 price tag on them & after months of no interest they sell it to the scrap man for $300. The down side is a fender that was bondoed up 15 years ago may look good in a poor picture, you'll only get the true assessment by looking in person. I've looked at 2 in the past month that the seller claimed to have a real nice body, no rust, blah blah blah......of course they were nothing but rustbuckets. |
If the doors are not bad shape id buy the doors off ya.
|
Now I'm waiting for someone else here to buy it so I can buy parts off them :)
JohnnyB |
If $300 is the number I would probably do it.
|
The guy seemed to answer emails pretty quick ...shoot him an offer of $300 and see if he bites .... maybe he has a meth habit that needs feeding :)
JohnnyB PS. I'll give you $50 sight unseen for an unbroken glove box door, $100 for an undented valance panel, $250 for the left front fender if it's nice .....say total rust of 4x4" square, I would offer something on the core support but there is probably no way that's going to be good. |
I'd already own it if it wasn't so far away from me. TRUST ME, there is far more than 1k in parts there!
Btw, a car does NOT need a carb to run, just dump gas down the intake and fire it up. Trust me on that one too! If the fuel line is pointing at the carb opening on the intake, LOOK OUT! OH the memories... |
It's not far from me. IMO, $500.00 tops.
|
I bought and brought it home today. Nearly complete, 68 AC car, rusty, but rolls. I will be digging into it later this week if anyone needs anything.
|
Can't wait to hear what's good on it. Never ceases to amaze me how parts on these cars can be perfect when you think they won't be, or junk when you think they should be good. Every one seems so different.
JohnnyB |
Let me know if the core support is any good. I've got a repop in a box, but I'd rather try to restore a decent original.
I'm close enough to you to drive over and pick things up. JohnnyB |
