Speedworld Dragstrip - zoning issues

I ask all PYers here to sign this petition, it will be sent to the county board of Supervisors to keep Speedworld open. We need to keep all the drag strips we have.

http://signon.org/sign/keep-speedwor...b&r_by=4712108

thank you,

$50bird 06-17-2012 01:35 AM

We need this track in Arizona, thanks steve for your letting us know about this.

mgarblik 06-17-2012 08:22 AM

Petition signed. Good luck Steve. Similar type issues here in Ohio with a strip opened in 1959. New owners are fighting to keep it open and keep local government happy. Over 400 cars typically on a test and tune night. Doesn't matter when one hater is in the right position in local government and wants it gone or if a wealthy developer wants the land for another project. Keep up the fight.

Ron 06-17-2012 11:26 AM

Signed it.

twooldgoats 06-17-2012 11:29 AM

Signed it.

S/st 54 06-17-2012 01:09 PM

Signed it! Anything to help keep a drag strip.
We just lost ours in Kansas City and like the Speed World track it was a pretty dang good race track.

6t7goat 06-17-2012 02:02 PM

DONE!!!

Steve Barcak 06-17-2012 07:07 PM

A little more looking into this, I see the newspaper used a very misleading headline...

Not sure if everyone who read the article understands the issue here.

It does not seem to have anything to do with politics, bs, favoritism, etc.

There are zoning and permit requirements almost everywhere. People seem to like lots of restrictions on their life, HOAs are a great example.
Anyway, apparantely Speedworld violated or bypassed some required permits and that is the issue.
I have not seen anything written that these issues cannot be remedied.

Years back, when I bought my acreage intending to own hundreds of old cars, I went through the process of a formal, or hard, zone change. With the proper zoning, you still need a permit of some type to be able to perform your intention. In my case, it is called an "IUP" or industrial use permit. You can only get an IUP if you have proper zoning.
I have now gone through this process twice so, am pretty familiar with the procedures.
Speedworld has the proper zoning so, it seems from reading that the permits are either not current or not applicable for his use.
Speedworld did expand their vendues considerably and normally, these permits are pretty specfic. that is probably the issue based on what I read.
It is my hope that the board of supervisors will allow the use of the facility while they get their act in line but, that is not normal to do so.
Why he did not go through the formal permit process at the proper time is a mystery to me.
We'll see.

I am as much a fan of Speedworld as anyone and have hosted drags there since 1998. Am hoping everything will work out fine.

It does not look like the county has not done anything out of line. If there is a zoning or pemit violation, there has to be some sort of action taken whether it is Speedworld or your neighbor having garage sales twice a week for a year.

I have not read anything about a permanent closure, just a closer until rules and permits are confirmed to. If that is the case, that is reasonable. Am hoping everything will get back to normal soon for everyones benefit.
I do not see the track in danger of a permanent closure as the paper article alludes to.

If anyone sees otherwise, please explain here specifically.

I signed the petition and noted how my family and I attended the Pontiac Heaven event at the track in March. I stated that the event was the only reason that we went down there. I also said that we were planning to attend the BOP event this fall but if the track is not open, we will not be down there spending money...

Steve...as much as I am in agreement with you on this Speedworld affair, I refuse to sign any petition that requires I receive email and other notifications from the radical socialist left wing organization MoveOn.org

Whomever set up this petititon should have used a little more forethought before putting it on a site serviced by MoveOn.org

At first I felt the same way but signed anyway and opted out of the E-mail notifications.

Nothing requires you to receive e-mails. Easy opt out. You need to improve your reading comprehension, Brian.

Jim

Ron 06-18-2012 10:43 PM

Sign it you old toot! Read and you will find out that it is easy to opt out.

That said.....this petition was built by moveon.org. Leftest, liberal, communist, company. So you can't really believe what they write can you.

mzbk2l 06-19-2012 12:59 AM

Or misspell your email address. I seem to have included an extra digit in mine when I signed. :)

Keith Seymore 06-19-2012 07:02 AM

Done.

We actually rented the track for a private test session back when we lived in Arizona (1990- 1994). There were only two other cars there besides me that day.

IIRC that was when I first broke into the 10's. Good times.

Mmmmm Hmmmmmm. Just like I was signed up for the caglepost website updates, and have no idea how, and even after going to their site and "opting out" twice, I still get email updates at least once per week from caglepost...no thanks.

ry57pont 06-19-2012 09:51 AM

signed it, did not realize it was from Move on.org, now i feel dirty and have to shower.

Fast 69 06-19-2012 12:35 PM

I also refused to sign the petition because it had moveon.org origins. I went ahead and signed it but added a couple extra numbers to my email. The LAST thing i want is crap sent from them!

Ron 06-19-2012 01:08 PM

Well.......adding anything to your e-mail address will not help. When you hit the send button moveon.org will capture your real address.

Interesting... I wonder if I'll get $1.00 from Microsoft for every email address?

All they get is your IP address, which has no link whatsoever to any of the email addresses you may have (I have at least 3 for work; army, state.gov, corporate, and several each on hotmail, yahoo, and gmail, plus the default email address from each of my two separate ISPs in the US.)

5,000 + signatures so far!

ry57pont 06-20-2012 02:40 PM

just got this email, sons of biches got me on their list

Dear MoveOn member,
We have a big decision to make.
At MoveOn, members vote on any election endorsements we make. Today we need to decide whether to make an endorsement in the presidential race. The outcome of the election is far from decided—polls are showing that this could be a very tight race—so our work could make a big difference.
If MoveOn members vote to endorse President Obama, we'll campaign hard to re-elect Obama and to defeat Mitt Romney. If MoveOn members choose not to endorse Obama, we won't spend our time and resources on the presidential election. It's up to you.
So it's time to ask the question: Should MoveOn endorse President Obama?
Yes.
No.
By clicking Yes or No, you are casting your vote. This email is your personal endorsement ballot—unique to you. Please don't forward it.
If you want to encourage your friends who are MoveOn members to vote, tell them to look for their personal MoveOn ballot email. It's important to vote immediately. Voting lasts until 9 a.m. Eastern tomorrow—Thursday, June 21.
We all need to weigh in on this crucial question—please take a moment to cast a vote. It only takes a few seconds.
Should MoveOn endorse President Obama?
Yes.
No.
Thanks for all you do.
–Justin, Adam, Alejandro, Amy, Angela, Carrie, David, Elena, Eliza, Emily, Eric, Garlin, Holly, Jason, Jessica, Julia, Justin, Laura, Lenore, Mariana, Marika, Mark, Melanie, Milan, Nick, Nick, PaKou, Reshad, Robin, Ryan, Stephen, Susan, Susannah, Tate, Tim, Vicki and the MoveOn.org Political Action Team
P.S. Here are the complete rules:
• Everyone who is a MoveOn member as of noon Eastern on Tuesday, June 19, is eligible to vote.
• Voting lasts now through 9 a.m. Eastern tomorrow—Thursday, June 21.
• MoveOn will only endorse President Obama if two-thirds of the votes cast by members are in favor of endorsement.
• Only your first vote will be counted, you can't use this email to vote a second time.
Want to support our work? We're entirely funded by our 7 million members—no corporate contributions, no big checks from CEOs. And our tiny staff ensures that small contributions go a long way. Chip in here.

I received the same message. I opted out and wrote why I opted out and that is because moveon.org is a liberal, left wing, communist orginization.

Now we will see how many more messages I get from moveon.org or another of their liberal, left wing, communist orginizations.

Sorry for the rant on such an important subject regarding Speedworld that is very dear to mine and your hearts.

Hammertime Mike 06-20-2012 04:33 PM

Yup signed it for the team. Now lets see how long will it take for the George Soros funded liars to let go of my e-mail address.:usa2:

Old Man Taylor 06-20-2012 04:43 PM

I simply voted NO.

Rodney R 06-20-2012 04:47 PM

Way to go Old Man Taylor! I just unsubscribed. Wish I would've voted no first

Ron 06-20-2012 07:51 PM

You and I and others will now appear on every liberal, left wing, communist e-mail list in the world.

Someone pass the scotch please...I need a shot.

Hi Jack, hope all is well hope to see you in Norwalk this year. I don't doubt that with George Soros. I'm sure he made a ton of money on that transition too.

Hammertime Mike 06-21-2012 06:30 PM

I've got my third e-mail from move on . org today this one informing me that I'm officially removed from their mailing list. We'll see.

Ron 06-21-2012 06:49 PM

Now let me drop the other shoe. George Soros also owns snopes.com. How convenient it is of him to ask snopes a question and it will be answered in truth.....NOT!!!

twooldgoats 06-21-2012 07:22 PM

Some of you guys could politicize the sunrise. We were trying to help out a drag strip (in the PY Race section).

Interesting, David and Barbara Mikkelson are the founders and operators of Snopes.com. Also supposidly totally funded from advertising. If you have something linking Soros I'd like to see it. Meanwhile you've got my interest and I'll be trying to find a solid connection between the two.

johnta1 06-21-2012 07:33 PM

Exactly, Jim!
:(

More email crap from the 'other' side.
How do we get off these email lists?

From truthorfiction:
Soros

From urbanlegends:
Soros

There are more lies in these threads here on PY than I get in my email.

:(

I actually signed the petition right from the homepage of Speedworld's website. I have had no spam in the week since. I don't know if it links to the same petition, but I'm not too worried about it. http://racespeedworld.com/
