Gas prices (again)
 

Has anyone noticed that gas prices have risen to outrageous levels again? In the past 3 weeks, our local prices are up .50 cents a gallon. As of today, we're at $4.19 for regular, $4.59 for premium.

Yep...two weeks ago in S Carolina I paid under 3.00

$4.09 with cash $4.19 with card here in Mi.

Right around 3.15 for regular and 3.40 for premium in Tucson/ south Phoenix. Not bad!

Couple of places here in Phoenix is at 3.09 a gallon for regular.

$3.65 here today. Never got under $3.50 the last time the market dropped from$3.30 to $2.40, Market price this morning was $2.84.

No complaints here.

Usually around $3.25/$3.35 here.
Was about 10 cents cheaper until July 4th.

Oil hasn't went up that much, probably not market driven.

Mike, Im not certain, but I came in on the end of a conversation on WGN where there is a regional issue with fuel delivery. It was $3.79 in Schaumburg yesterday and today its $4.29. Usually when theres a spike like this, its that sort of a problem.

Here in South Elgin (Kane County) its still $3.79.

Mike. That's a demand spike from all those "Chicago Values" Filling up to go 100 miles out of town to buy from Chick-Fill-A.:D

$3.45 here for 87, was $3.08 a couple of weeks ago.

Actually, oil has been dropping. Now I'm hearing that the drought is responsible due to the impending corn shortages and subsequent ethanol price increases.

There is no supply/demand issue so don't expect the prices to remain high for long.

They found a pipe line from Canada to Chicago leaking in Wisconsin 7/28 that had to be shut down.
Then a refinery in Tulsa burned last nite.

87 octane is averaging $3.35 around here now. Up about $0.25 in the past 2-3 weeks.

Both of my vehicles use 93 octane, running about $3.65 to $3.75 currently.

Please do not begin conspiracy theories regarding gasoline prices. Price spikes have been beaten to death and conspiracies disproven too many times to count. Supply/demand, world tensions, government interference in the "free market" of the product, taxes per gallon, outages, refining capacity, etc. This is a large spike, true. It will fade again.

Question: Why is there no outrage about college tuition's rise over the same period?

Not sure how it all works , oh yeah thats right supply and demand paid 2.93 a gal in Pigeon Forge three weeks ago, drove from Fl into indiana over to ohio and it was still cheaper in a tourist town, Go figure

It went from $3,27 to $3.60 here in Pa withing the last week or so.

$4 for 93 premium today in DFW. Up $.40. Obama is paying my mortgage so I don;t care how much gas costs.

Same here. The old model for pricing was a peak at travel times like the 4th. The new model is peak at other times and cheaper during travel holidays so people spend the extra money to go ahead and take the trip.

Um, because once you pay tuition and get school behind you, you don't pay anymore tuition (directly, anyway)?

I got the degree. Now it's mine. I got the gas, but I used it to go to work with my degree, and now it's converted to other gases. I have to keep buying it or arrive to work sweaty and tired with less free time to post on the interwebs.

Gasbuddy.com said last week that he price in the midwest was going to go up.. There was a fire last night at an OK refinery too.

Time to build some state of the art refineries so that there is more capacity.

It was 3.36 in Youngstown OH, two weeks ago. 3.64 today. I got it cheaper in PA (3.45) which is unusual. Probably because the price hike had not arrived there yet. Not going to be so lucky tomorrow.
Hope it doesn't go above 4.00 before I get back to Maine.

Gas in north Berrien county Mich, 3.59 two weeks ago; went up to 3.79 Monday; went up to 3.9* today.

4.29 Western Cook, fastest rise I can remember.

It went from $3.38 per gallon in Louisville to as high as $3.95 per gallon OVERNIGHT, but the Street Rod Nationals are this weekend. Was greeted with the TYPICAL CT "screw you" fuel prices.....$3.80 per gallon was the CHEAPEST on Berlin Turnpike.

This is BS with the prices going up for no reason. :mad::mad::mad:

I see $4.51 all around the island of Kauai(I'm honeymooning). Not sure back in my home state of Michigan though. No problem mon, not worrying about a ting here...LOL Mike

Our prices here jumped .10/gallon overnight. From 3.53 to 3.63. Thankyou you for sticking it to us a bit more. :mad: Next time kiss us first!

we are at 3.29 regular and 3.49 supreme here in lower TX.

Filled up the work commuter car this morning. $3.79/ gallon for 87 octane at the 76 station near my home.

Fricken outrageous. Paid $3.89 this morning on way to work and $3.79 just last night around 9:30pm on our way home from Norwalk.

Went from 3.49 straight to 3.99 here.
Paid 3.38 week before it went 3.49
Down to 3.95 today. WUU-HOO...NOT!

This all self imposed, folks. The people vote in the politicians that put us here.
They wont let us drill
They run the deep water rigs out of the gulf
Refuse to build new pipelines so the canadians will sell to china instead
They're trying to stop fracking
They impose gas taxes which hits the poor the hardest
Wont allow most offshore drilling
Cant build new refineries because of overwhelming epa regs
Require 50-100 different formulations of gas accross the country which stifles competition
Has us put our food in our fuel tanks raising food prices and burns a gallon of oil to produce a gallon of ethanol

This is off the top of my head, the list goes on.

It still shouldn't be over 1.30 a gallon.

Bottom line and it sucks to face it but we need to get off of oil and less volitile priced energy for daily mass consumption. You can drop a drill down every square mile of this country, build a refinery on every block and put pipelines between them all. You are just kicking the can down the road with a fuel that is in finite supply. We need to be okay with seeking domestic supplied energy that is in sufficient quantity to make it economically viable to build an infrastructure around.

IMO, this is the is the real reason no new refineries have been build in decades regardless of which party has been in charge. We are a country that put a man on the moon and just landed a 1 ton rover on Mars. I am not buying the most profitable companies on the planet who's yearly profits alone exceed the GNP of most mid-size countries cannot figure out who to buy or whatever to clear the way for a new refinery. Maybe at $55/barrel but not at over $100. I also think its BS that some pipeline from Canada is going to significantly move the needle either. Let's think about it, where is all of this oil going right now? My guess is it is being moved by boat, rail and truck and sold to market. A pipleline is more efficient, yes but looking at history, you think those cost savings are going to be passed on to you at the pump? What makes you think, domestically produced oil drilled and refined by multi-national corporations will be sold in the US rather than to the highest bidder through the invisable hand of the market?

I am thinking hybrid/electrics are the interim solution for commuter needs. Of course we will have to deal with the increased electrical demand through natural gas, coal, solar, wind and maybe nuclear. All of these are domestically produced in abundance and stable pricewise relative to oil. They all have issues but all are more long term viable than oil.

Oil will have its place but I for one do not need to be burning gas to do my 20 mile drive to work. I want it for my hot rod but outside of that would prefer a hybrid. In fact, since one party is all about tax cuts, how about a tax cut for companies who provide the capability for their employees to work from home taking them off the road in the first place? Sounds like a easy win/win for companies and their employees. Instead of fighting for more drilling and pipelines to line to pockets of big oil companies, why don't you work on that?

Oil companies don't want our domestic oil. It would bring prices down and they'd lose profites. They'd rather buy foreign oil from the Middle East and make us pay more. ;)

$4.10 now, up 35 cents in one month.

We only have the one refinery for Michigan. It is near Chicago and a single pipeline goes toward Detroit/Canada. They have had a lot of leakage issues with this pipeline and the company has been slow with the repairs and even slower with any suggestions to upgrade the pipeline.

Our cost for a gallon of 87 octane gas has been 30-40 cents higher vs places like Ohio, etc.

I really do believe that if we were not locked into ONE refinery supplier for our area the gas prices would be much lower.
