69 Firebird Ramair iii on Ebay
|
Looks like a great car. Not sure why it's a 1 of 1..
It should have a 1100832 open face alternator |
That is a nice car. Sure wish they posted a copy of the PHS.

Im going to Hadjih mart and buying me some lottery tickets

I asked what made it 1 of 1, and he replied:
This car is a Firebird that was built in the Trans Am factory. It has the Trans Am handling package, and gauge package, and is Cameo white. If you look at the pictures, the biggest difference is the tachometer. Firebirds had a hump on the hood for a tach, TA's had them in dash. You'll notice this one is in dash. PHS documents that I do have support this. Feel free to call if you have more questions. It's basically a Trans Am without the stripes, wing, and NACA ducts, and was the only one built this way. don't know if this is some sort of feature on photoshop or what, but his pics look like they come out of a factory brochure. I know they don't but that is what it looks like. Frank.

Isn't that like saying a Ram Air III GTO is the same as a Judge without spoiler and stripes?

Great car! Wonder who drilled the center console out for an optional stereo or cb?

90k? He'd be lucky to get 40.

I thought regular Firebirds could get a "heavy duty" suspension as an option but only the TA received the 1" sway bar. Stack guages were an option on any '69 Firebird but not that common right?
|
Well, first off, the appraisal doesn't mean anything. You can get a car appraised for $1.8 million, even when the car last sold for $70,000 at auction. All you need is someone to say they're an appraiser, pay them a few bucks, and then you tell them what you want it appraised for.
It's a nice car though, nicely optioned, great colors, and amazing no one has turned it into a Trans An over the decades. With that color scheme, it would be a natural. Some comments on the sellers claims : Only the Trans Am received the 1" sway bar. The hood tach was NOT available on the Trans Am. The tach itself (in dash) was optional on the Trans Am or the Firebird. It was not included in the Trans Am package, not even a RAIV 4-speed car, you had to order a tach. The stepped gauges to the right of the driver are not "Trans Am" gauges, those are simply where Pontiac placed the gauges when a tach was ordered. Some things I noticed about the car in general. All minor things, but curious nonetheless as the seller claims it's all original... 1) The front has been hit, the bumper is angled down. 2) The p/s cooler is missing the clips, and there are no holes in the radiator for those clips. That means someone added the p/s cooler and never drilled the holes, or the radiator was swapped out (more likely), and the clips were never reinstalled. 3) Someone painted the brake booster black. 4) The paint is awfully shiny for 43-year old paint. 5) In the interior photo, showing the front seats, you can see the back 1/4 interior panels are a much brighter blue than the front panels. Again, it's a GREAT car, but I would like to see the invoice, and see it in person, before dropping 5 figures. In this economy, the car would bring about $50,000 at auction. |

But the 1969 Trans Am is much more than stripes and a wing over a 1969 Ram Air III Firebird, which is why the Trans Am option set you back $1000 back in 1969, a huge chunk of change at the time. |
Sorry even if this car is everything the seller claims, (Firebird with TA options)
I still see a white Firebird 400! I had a 65 GP with 421 HO and all the options of the 2+2 but it was still a GP! |
Agreed!
|
If I am buying a wolf in sheep clothing, I am only paying a C(S)heepish price!
LOL! I really like this car I just wish sellers would describe this stuff a little better. |
I've had a few back-and-forths with the guy about the tach issue. He seems to be a very nice seller. In the end, I'm not a buyer so I won't bother him anymore but the car is what it is, whether we may disagree with the minutiae of trivia.

There's actually nothing wrong with how the car is optioned. It appears correct. My comment about the hood tach was just to point out that the seller is mistaken when he told Diego:
"Firebirds had a hump on the hood for a tach, TA's had them in dash." My point #4 (above) is still my biggest concern, and that is how shiny the car is. It just doesn't look like 43-year old lacquer paint. It looks like a base/clear paint job, but it could be the way the car was photographed, or maybe the photos were spiced up in PhotoShop.... Very cool car! |
I can only view the main picture - Great Looking Car !
If he posts the PHS - someone be sure and grab a shot of it for us. I "think" i "remember" that 69 400 HO Birds with Functional / Operational Ram Air Induction are actually rarer than a Ram3 TA. But still not in the TA money range. A real true 11k mile verified car would be top premium tho. Its in full make-up and pizazz in pic i see. Pro quality set-up and lighting and prep etc The downside is the description and replies sound like a used car salesman from 1976 trying to sell a car he knows very very little about. It would need to be Ram IV to have a chance at drawing 6 figures imho. |
I believe this car belonged to a board member and was for sale here on PY about 5 years ago. IIRC, it was somewhere in the Northeast region.

I think 68bird400ho is correct. IIRC it sold for 35k-40k. Thought it was a good deal back then.
