GTO's and Pontiacs in general get no love at BJ. A restomoded Camaro or a cloned Mustang will sell for more than a numbers matching GTO. I still watch it thou, I love looking at all types of cars. Did you see that 1929 model AA duelly with a wooden flatbed Tuesday night? That thing was cool.

Seriously, a 4000 mile GM Heritage car still on MSO until this year...and it has the air cleaner sticker. Maybe they really were factory issue...lmao! |
Doesn't that Sunfire Red '64 belong to a member here? Either that or someone here has one very much like it...and it's such a seldom-seen color...

I cannot stand those stuipd CID stickers on the air cleaners. Someone needs to tell the "100% Factory Restored" people that they never came from the factory with those. Ugh!

Lot 1004 has one of those stickers and says the car is a 4000 mile car always owned by gm. Or did I read that wrong?

Something is not right with lot 1004 IMO. The description given in the write up does not make sense given the facts below.
They claim an all original car untouched with 4,000 miles. If true, consider these facts: Z101043 is an early production car probably built in Sept 68. This GTO has a Ram Air pan installed which means it is a factory Ram Air car? The earliest known Ram Air III was built in Dec 68. If it is not a factory RA car, then the lower pan was added making it not "untouched" Not to mention the decal which was obviously added recently if it had been in the GM museum all these years. The lid looks chromed in the picture to me, maybe its the lighting, but if it is chromed that is a no-no for a correct Ram Air lid. Also the front seats have repro seat covers on them. Kind of unusual for only 4,000 miles. Steering wheel cover? why if it was never driven. Cowl screen covers are the plastic 70 style covers I have onyl seen them on late 69s. An early Fremont car would have the chicken wire screen over the cowl opening. Wheels appear to be 14x7 with wider trim rings. GTO fender emblems don't appear to be body color on the bars which means probably a repaint. I don't see original exhaust extensions and I would think those would still be there on a 4,000 mile car. An early production car (vin Z101043) with a Judge spoiler? and without lower rear rocker trim? It is a nice car, but don't try to fool us Pontiac guys with nonsense. C'mon Man!!! |

I cannot understand the 400-4V decals on all the AZ cars. Since retirement, I spend winters in AZ and go to lots of car shows. Some Pontiac "God" must have put one on at one time, because they seem very convinced that they are correct.
I was at Barzaks deal @ Speedworld and many were present. On Saturdays, I go to the pavillions and see a bunch more. One guy has a very nice '69 Vedero green car, correct down to the spring ring battery cables, but he will not remove his 400-4v decal. One of the car jockeys(high-end) was selling a beautiful '67 hardtop. This car was georgous-well done as Speedvision would say, but nothing would convince Lynn that that 400-4V wasn't correct. I thought maybe I was the only one the got irritated by this decal, but by reading these comments see I'm not alone!! -Bill- end of rant- |
I can't believe that nut bolt restoration on the 69 Judge. Did they not do any homework on a GTO JUDGE?
Being a Judge guy I'm almost embarrassed for that car to go in public. JMO No offence but really? |

I noticed the incorrect cowl covers (should be the chicken wire), but I cannot really fault them for putting that on it. I hated the way it looked on my judge, and when I came across a set off a 70 car, I couldn't replace it fast enough. I am not sure why any manufacturer would think that was a good idea.
Are the engine edge of the fenders supposed to be body color, or should they be black as well? "How about the incorrect manual master cyl. with the disc brake valve" How can you tell that? |

Thanks, 13 years in the classic car journalism business and 17 years in the auto industry prior to that leaves you with some interesting stories. Blog will always have a wide range of topics including motorbikes but Pontiacs and muscle cars will predominate.
