I thought it was amazing that you could see civilization from there. Big city compared to where I am. 25 acres is a speck there.

Bruce that's my thought also. I'd prefer 3-500 acres as a buffer. The view is ruined by civilization.

You may not have to worry about snow some parts of Montana are surprisingly snowless.
I know a guy who lived there for 5 yrs or so, he said they never got much

"Never got much" to a Montanian might be 3 or 4 feet at a time.

"Never got much" to me is 1/2 inch or less. Besides, I don't like the cold either.

The only snow I want to see is on a postcard.

That being said he was an Indiana transplant who moved there got busted for poaching and moved back.

Maine sucks, dude. It's quickly becoming a liberal extension of Mass. Only thing it's got over Conn is lower taxes. Plus the terrain in Maine would be way more costly to develope than Montana.

I think that price is pretty good for someone who doesn't mind cold winters. It's pocket change to professional athletes and people in the entertainment business. Someone like that is going to jump on it.
Only drawback I see is it must be expensive to heat, unless you have a cheap firewood source. Didn't say if that huge garage had wood heat or not. Even if it does, you be spending a lot of time keeping the stoves going all winter.
But I wouldn't mind doing that if I didn't have to commute to an employer ie; financially secure.

We had a friend that was originally from Montana, and moved back there from California when she and her husband retired. She sent me a picture of their first winter, and they had dug down about 4' and she was standing in the hole. That was too much snow for me, but then I read that she was actually standing on top of their picnic table and not the ground. Their place was about 50 miles from Glacier National Park.

I wouldn't need to use the monstrous garage during the winter since the living room is plenty large to just pull my car in and work on it. Why fight the winter elements when you can stay inside and putter.

Well that does it! Just got the tax bill for the two trucks yesterday!

Personal property tax on vehicles - every six months here - $786.02 total for my 2000 F-350 and my 2007 Toyota Tacoma! Total assessed value of $23,590, mill rate of 33.32! Almost $1,600 additional tax dollars on top of the $10,200 I already pay on my house and the $1,400 I pay in personal property taxes on my business assets! Guess I won't be buying that new $55k Ford!

Time to move!

Hell, the house we have up on Cape Cod & the building lot next to it only cost us $2,400 in taxes each year - I'm almost paying that with my trucks!

Car taxes are up this year, but the property taxes on my houses actually went down.

Taxes on 2 houses, 5 cars, 1 truck and my business run me around $14k a year.

Yes, there was a published list. Taxes on the personal house went down over $700. :)

Looks like properties with barns or big shops are fairly common in the Bitterroot valley. Real estate seems expensive though. Climate looks no worse than Chicago, but with less rain and snow, but more cloudy days in winter.

I'm doing something wrong. I pay the same property taxes and I have less than a quarter acre. :mad:

It's also built over an Indian burial ground!! :)
