2013 PY Forums Norwalk BBQ

2013 Norwalk is less than 3 weeks away and PY wants to officially announce that we will again be hosting our 10th Annual PY Forums Friday Night BBQ compliments of Performance Years, Pypes, GTOG8TA.com and Snappin Turtle Tie Downs

Anyone who likes to eat and talk with some good people is invited to join the BBQ. Our BBQ kicks off BEHIND the PY Tent, right as the racing is finishing up. Probably between 6:15-6:30pm. We will again be over against the fence on the spectator side just past the stands. PY will be bringing, all the way from Hatfield PA, our now famous BBQ rib sandwiches, our pepper and Onion Sausages as well as burgers, dogs and maybe even some baby back ribs, condiments, plates, utensils, water, soda, chips and a new very colorful but strong girly drink that is currently being named RED RUM. However, just like most picnic style BBQ's, attendees always surprise us with various contributions. These contributions really bail PY out because we never know just how many people will show up. Somehow everyone eats and there's always lots left over! If you want to bring a food or drink item please post what you're planning. If you don't, that's ok too. All you need to bring is your appetite and maybe a chair.

Items we always seem to need for the bbq: ice, bottled water, beer. Anything else is a bonus!

I am also looking for volunteers to take a cooking shift. If I can get some relief pitching, I'll be able to do a much better job of making and distributing some Anti-Freeze, PY Blue and the new Red Rum.

We hope to see everyone there.

Also please check in with the poll above so we can get a good head count.

Hooter 07-15-2013 10:26 PM

I'll be there again.

Oh, Hell- I'll go anyhow. Bringing some beer- or 30. :beerchug:

GTO JOHN 07-15-2013 10:57 PM

Chris, Thanks a lot for hosting this meal. I was there last year for the first time and it was a blast. Should make it again this year too. I will bring a case or two of bottled water.

I agree! Some real shady people show up to that event..... :)

I guess Chris didn't like the name I wanted to give his new "Red Rum: drink... He did say it was a "girly" one. The name I had in mind was fitting. :(

pontiacchuck 07-16-2013 09:02 AM

twooldgoats 07-16-2013 10:15 AM

Ellen and I will be there and will bring a case of bottled water (I don't think they'll let us bring any Arizona salsa through airport security:().

Jim

Hammertime Mike 07-16-2013 11:55 AM

incommunicado 07-16-2013 12:50 PM

My second trip to Norwalk and first to the BBQ, count us (5) in. We will contribute food, water, and some sweet tea (think Rum here).

Looking forward to meeting you folks. We will be camping in a tan/ brown Jayco class C motorhome facing the track.

You are welcome to start a poll and see how it goes over. Good luck with that one :gag:

Yes! Probably the record for any side dish brought. Gotta be at least 7-8 years at least. So good we now have crock pots and hot tray to keep it ready for the dogs and sausage. Yum. :)

Another long time classic that is the bomb if you are lucky enough to be in line when these come off the grill.

For you two, I can always mix up something a little more appropriate with the name you wanted to use. But then again, the 'bloody Mary' already exists. ;)

Jerry H. 07-16-2013 09:36 PM

IF I can round up anyone to help me for the weekend I'll try to make it. I'll bring something if I do.

Too many things going on at this time. I will make it sometime. Shame It is so close to me.

Track time open?

Does anyone know when the track will open. I would guess that many, like me will want to drive up Thursday and avoid the long drive on Friday. Trying to figure out when we can get in and whether we can spend the night Thursday at the track. The girl at the track could not tell me as of 7-16.

Linders lot is suppose to open at 8am on Thursday. At noon, they are going to start selling weekend credentials and start allowing cars/trailers into the track until 8pm. At that time, they will direct anyone coming after 8pm back to Linders lot where they will stay for the evening until the track starts selling credentials again at 8am on Friday.
Lindners lot is a big field across the main road from the track where they park all the cars and trailers the day(s) before the race to keep everyone from lining up on the road(s) surrounding the track. This lot has hosted many a good drunkfest's and awesome cookouts and gathering on Thursdays. This year they are doing it a little different in years past to speed up the process of getting everyone in the track so it will be interesting to see how those "gathering" go this year. So basically, drive on up on Thursday. If you get there before 8pm, you can pit/park inside the gates of the track. If you get there after 8pm, then you you'll park over in Lindners lot for the night and get in the next morning. Hope this helps

incommunicado 07-17-2013 11:38 AM

Don't be shy!! :beerchug: :drunk: We generally have a nice "gathering" around our pit and tend to be one of the last groups to still be up past midnight. Only other group that can pretty much outlast us in the Canadian crew and Feber's bunch! ;)

Cerberus 07-18-2013 08:42 AM

I'd like to come and stay over Friday night. Does Linders lot allow tents? If so - do they have toilet facilities?
Thanks.

Not sure about staying over in Lindners AFTER the track is open but they do have port-o-lets in the lot. They usually use it for parking for the weekend.

There's camping in a tree covered area of the track property.

Aiming to make it to the BBQ again this year with Dad... made it late last year and missed out on seeing a lot of PY guys. But the food was good! See yall there!

Is anyone doing the PY Handle/name tag thing that has been done in years past?

Deadhead 07-19-2013 09:36 AM

Should be there with one or two kids. Planning on bringing something for desert (kids like making that stuff) and maybe cranking tunes in the lot. I'm thinking blueberry pound cake unless there are any objections.

Year before last it was certainly a tough/scary crowd. The Death Wish GP gave it kind of a carnie atmosphere. My wagon in its current state should help promote that again.

I'll be there. And I'm going to hold you to that statement, Bruce! The only way to out do the Deathwish, is with a BIGGER Deathwish! I would expect nothing less from a DEADhead! ;>

Deadhead 07-19-2013 10:30 AM

No way I can outdo it I don't think. I do have a vintage 12" SYF, but not sure I can bear to peel and stick it.

It's more like a hodgepodge of misfits & derelicts who race, drink, eat, drink, pass out, repeat! :drunk:

You got that right

Michael G 07-21-2013 08:45 PM

New job and relocating forced us to miss Norwalk last year.
As in years past, Emily will gladly help you with the Grill.
She said she will stop by during the day and see what you need.

Thanks Rob. The past year has been pretty rough. We're really looking forward to just getting away and enjoying the long weekend with a great group of Pontiac enthusiasts.
The Friday night PY BBQ is always a good way to start it off.
See you and Rusty at Linder's lot.

goatless 07-22-2013 08:53 PM

Hey Mike, Glad you and Emily are going to make it! See you there.

Mike, Tell Emily it Looks like I may have a paid cook from Norwalk staff for the night so Emily doesn't need to bust her tail all night long. Her help will certainly still be appreciated but should make it much less stressful and less time.

See you and Rusty at Linder's lot.

Lindners lot on Thursday has changed. they are opening at 8am and then start selling credentials at noon until 8pm. Once you buy your stuff, they are then allowing you to go into the track. They are doing this until 8pm. After 8pm, you'll pull into lindners but will stay there the rest of the night like years past and then in the morning, get into the track. Not sure how that is going to work out for everyone but we always find a way to :beerchug:.

Dave M 07-25-2013 10:35 PM

If you guys promise to be nice, I'll be there too. Maybe I'll even bring my cooler filled with beer........:-)

cnc 07-27-2013 02:18 PM

I'll be there with the wife .................and beer....
