New "Thank You" system on PY
Hi Everyone
How often have you wanted to show some appreciation to a member who was helpful to you? In those cases you probably posted a reply that simply said "Thanks." But what if that "Thanks" was easier and more powerful at the same time. If you haven't already noticed, there is a new "Thanks" button next to every post on the PY Forums (near the Quote button). Clicking that button on a specific post adds your username to the thanked area under the post. That single click allows you to show your appreciation to helpful members and put some good karma back into the Pontiac community. It also helps others reading that thread know which posts were helpful at a glance. This new feature of the PY Forums also keeps track of each time you've thanked another member and each time you've been thanked. You can see and search this info on the statistics tab of every member's profile page. You can also see a list of the Most Thanked members at the bottom of the PY Forums Home page as part of the new Top 10 Statistics block we've added. And who knows, maybe sometime in the future PY might even run a contest for the most thankful and most thanked members. ;) Please let us know what you think of this new feature, positives and negatives. Thanks |
We have this feature on another board that I use, it works very well, Thanks PY.

I think its a great idea!
|
And you have the option to remove your thanks!;)

I've recently joined a couple of other car forums that use the "Thanks" system, so I am a little bit familiar with it. |
This could be trouble. LOL
|
Nice touch.
Now for something much more useful, can we add "block user from posts I start" to the "ignore" feature? |
I go on another site that has this feature.
|
I just post a thank you. I don't need no stinkin button :p:D there's enough "buttons" in this world! A from the heart personal thank you or a kind word to someone is a far better way to make a statement then a button. JMHO!!
Thank You Steve :) See wasn't that nice? :D |

Yes, but everyone else sees their posts.
If no one saw their posts either, that would be good? :) |

You're not wrong, a from-the-heart personal reply is likely to have more meaning. But let me pose this scenario: There's an older tech thread about a problem you just began experiencing with one of your beautiful rides and the 5th response to the thread gives you the info that you needed to fix the issue you are having. Obviously the poster of the 5th response deserves a Thank You, the only problem is that there are already 45 posts in that thread so your thank you will appear 2 pages later. I'm sure you'd combat your aversion to buttons enough to use the Quote button with your reply so that a copy of the 5th post accompanies your Thank You. Then some time later another with a similar problem is reading that entire thread and gets to your glowing note of appreciation on page 3 and recognizes the post you quote. However they skip going back to page 1 and re-read the original post and re-reading reply #7 that describes a variation that didn't apply to your situation but does apply to this other member's situation. 24 hours later, after this other member has read the quote in your reply 20-30 times, trying to figure out what he/she is doing wrong, he/she begins to read the entire thread from the beginning and re-discovers reply #7. If only the other member had seen your endorcement of reply #5 when he/she first read the thread and right before reading the important variation described in reply #7. If only this other member could have those 24 hours back. :D Plus, it's a brand new, shiny button. And it appears on every post, just begging you to push it. It knows you see it. It's giving you a thumbs up. It's so enticing and simple. You want to push it, if only to see what will happen. Go ahead. Push it. Just once. It couldn't hurt anything. All your friends are doing it. :D :bolt: Steve |

Actually, it's not a bad idea if you do both. Just click Thanks right before you click Quote. That way the member gets 1 added to his/her Thank tally and also a person Thank You. Steve |

BTW - Lemme be the 1st to do this for ya: "Actually, it's not a bad idea if you do both. Just click Thanks right before you click Quote. That way the member gets 1 added to his/her Thank tally and also a person Thank You. Steve" |

Nice feature. Hope its not going to be abused for a few members agendas.
I think regular forum members will stop using if they see a pattern of the small group that doesn't really contribute "thanking" each others posts, just to get ranked. |
I just hit the button to a very intelligent PY'er. Kinda makes ya feel good.

I decided to STICKY this Thread for a few days :)
Ohhh, you can all "THANK me" later :D :bounce::pound: |

I've said it before, and I'll say it again, PONTIAC Enthusiasts are the most gracious helping people I've ever met. The Thank You option is a great idea. I just like busting Steve's chops and he knows it lol. :D |
If we have a "thank you" button, can we get a "get lost" button?

Now you get the usual crowd that has to be 'Liked' to post useless crap that their buddies can 'Like' so they can boast about their 'Like' count. The same way the Useless Post went on the post count. It was changed in the Lobby so the post counts don't add to your 'score'. Now they have a new way of doing it. :( |
Performance Years adds a new feature to bring the board together and 4-5 of the irregulars demand a way to further troll.

If such a person is unwelcome in my yard or living room or the barstool next me, they are also unwelcome in my thread. I'd like to be my own bouncer on threads I start. |

I don't 'ignore' anyone at least with that feature. :D And if they 'ignore' me I guess I wouldn't care either. :) |
Key word: "antagonistic". Let that sink in.

You have an opportunity to own your yard, but not this forum where we're "guests". Ignore is a tool to help you do what you can't make yourself do. It isn't there to be a personal bully pulpit or ball bat. |
OK Doug, let's further the "barstool" analogy.
A guy pops into his favorite local pub/restaurant and grabs a stool for a beer while waiting for his friends for their weekly get-together. There is one lonely and friendless guy there who is a generally mild nuisance, somewhat insulting, but mostly ignored by the regulars. About the time the guy finishes his beer, his friends show up for dinner, Mr. Lonely's been plopped on the stool next to him for a few minutes. The guy and his buddies occupy a booth, not inviting Mr. Lonely. Mr. Lonely cannot find another victim at the bar (a frequent thing), so "invades" their booth by pulling up a chair. Remember, he was not invited. The guy and his buddies don't really care to bother the owner or manager, so they ask him politely to leave them alone. Repeatedly. Over several years. Especially since Mr. Lonely's employment situation has changed and he's got a lot more time to sit in the pub, nearly every waking minute. After so many years, Mr. Lonely starts to assert himself, and insert himself, into more and more conversations where he was not invited (and again was frequently asked to leave them be), and refuses to be a gentleman. He's become more rude, more insulting and generally more obnoxious. Consequently, the pushback from those intruded upon increases a like amount, to the point where suggestions are now being made to the manager (who knows this is an irritant to his patrons, but doesn't ever really butt in because they're big boys who can handle themselves) and maybe the owner. See, a gentleman knows when he is unwelcome, when to keep his distance and when to not make a nuisance of himself. A boor (and general bore) does not. I'm asking for a little more control over that scenario in this virtual world. |
Very well put Glenn. I would have made the analogy that he's like a boil on the butt. If you can get rid of it, why not?

You've walked onto the stage of a separate conference room from a bar full of spouting narcissists to openly complain about how the business owner runs his bar which happens to have a heading stating not to go if you have delicate feelings. And you wonder why people outside the bar don't like to hear about the bar at all? |
No need for me to engage this any further, Doug. I painted a word picture to provide clarity towards my request. You've proved my points by trying to make this into an argument with an antagonistic approach and over-stretched analogies, not to mention insults for the people who have chosen to have you on ignore ("bar full of spouting narcissists"). Goading someone into further arguing is the mark of a true internet troll and I will not participate.
Back on "ignore"... DM_FAN, if you cannot enable such a "blocking" feature as I requested, please see if "ignore" feature can be made to ignore all "quoted" posts. Either one suits me, and many others who use the "ignore" feature (which is obviously quite necessary). Thank you! |

Everybody wishes the barstools would stop getting dragged out of the bar into the more decent parts of the building. |

And WOW I'm getting more popular in the Lobby every day. |
